Majestic Colonial Punta Cana - All Inclusive

MORE SELECTION ON THE ALL INCLUSIVE CHOICE OF BEERS AND TEQUILAS. EVERY TRIP HAS BEEN UNIQUE IN IT'S OWN WAY. BETTER PRICES SO THAT YOU COULD PROLONG YOUR STAY. THE BEACHES WERE SOME OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN.

Wife and I booked Majestic Colonial for one week in April '09. I'd give the Punta Cana airport a grade of "F" as far as airports go. Be sure to book shuttle transportation in advance (we did) because the taxis are overpriced. Although our room was not ready for us when we got the room the resort upgraded us (without us asking)to the Majestic Elegance for no add'tnl cost. From talking to others who stayed at nearby resorts, the Majestic Colonial & Elegance are two of the best. Ideal resort for family or couples, not singles or "spring-breakers". Also ideal as a low-stress, slow-paced beach vacation; if you're into partying and clubbing, these two resorts may not be right for you bc there was only 2 nightclubs open all night on the resorts. The resorts provide bottled water, but it's bottled in the DR and some minor digestive issues after a couple days of drinking it forced us to buy name-brand bottled water (available on the resort and cheap); the tap water is absolutely not potable. Multiple restaurants and two buffets provided a sufficient variety of menu options but the food was not "5-star restaurant quality"--i.e., it was good, but not incredible. Majestic Elegance opened in Nov '08 but everything was open and available. However: it was apparent that unskilled labor was used extensively in construction: shower tile floor was not level and tended to pool & flood, light switches not installed very well (not a safety issue, just not done right), poor tiling/grouting work, and other minor construction quality details. Just the same, these didn't detract from the overall beauty of the resorts. Staff are constantly washing, sweeping, cleaning, picking up litter, cleaning the beach, raking the beach, etc. Compared to other beaches (state-side and carribean), we'd score this beach as a tie with Maegans Bay in St.Thomas (USVI). Not much for shopping, but we didn't go to shop. Seeing the rest of the island during the trip btwn the airport and hotel, makes you appreciate how nice even the poorest areas in the U.S. really are.

I've been to the Majestic Colonial twice - once with my 3 grown daughters shortly after it opened and just recently went there with my husband. I can't wait to go back again. Friendly staff, great variety of food, drinks, sun, spa, white powdery sand, turquoise water, live shows and music every night. Went on a snorkeling excursion for an afternoon where we swam with nurse sharks and domesticated sting rays that was very fun. I'd never snorkeled before but enjoyed it very much even as a beginner. We were there over spring break and the resort was full but always plenty of room around the pool and beach. Only about a 30 min. ride from the Punta Cana airport, too. Just loved it!

We traveled with 2 other couples. All 3 rooms faced the new construction that is going on, not the garden or pool view we had booked. One room was so dirty it was terrible (and the tv was on when we walked in!?). It took a while to get that room changed (no one is in a hurry to help). The next room was not much better, toilet seat broken, no towels, once again looking at construction, bed felt like it had sand in it. One couple got moved the following day after several trips to the front desk, another couple moved 2 days later, and the 3rd couple never got moved. The beds felt like rocks. We knew we weren't going to have gourmet meals however we were disappointed in the restaurants. The only meal we enjoyed was breakfast. Lunch was the same thing everyday and the dinner choices weren't any better. There is nothing to do in the evening until the show starts at 10pm and then a disco at 11pm.. We were warned about going off property and really wouldn't want to at any rate. There was nothing to see and no restaurants to visit. There was a tragedy on the beach and it took the hotel's emergency team over 15 minutes to respond. All in all I can only say the weather was perfect, there were some employees that were fun but mostly they were ambivalent. We will not go back.

The overall hotel was nice the staff didnt really speak too much english. The main issue was the hotel decided they were gonna do airconditioning repairs and never notified the guests until the day prior. The air conditioning was shut down for 24 hours one day and then the power was shut off on another day for 4-6hours. There was only 1 restaurant open on these dates due to the lack of power and air conditioning. The other resources such as club,casino,theatre etc. were still open with no air conditioning???? Bottom line it was hot as hell. I was extremely uncomfortable with the no power (no lights) situation. The entire resort was pitch black! We were forced to retire to our rooms where we couldnt see our hands in front of our faces! I don't want a curfew escpecially when i'm on vacation. If this didnt occur i would have had an awesome trip. It put a damper on my and my fiance's vacation. Other than this issue the hotel was beautiful the food was ok the drinks were good. I ate and drank everything and didnt get sick (contrary to what some say).

The Majestic Colonial in Puna Cana was a great hotel. The pool and beach were amazing and the staff was very friendly. The hotel room was nice and pacious but the bathroom area was difficult to get used to. The toilet area only had a glass door seperating itself from the sink area. Not much privacy in the toilet area. The food was difficult to get used to. Like going anywhere different there is an adjustment. I found things I liked and stayed with them. The deserts were phenominal and I could not stop eating them. The French restaraunt is a must. You need reservations so get them when you first check in. I would definitely go back.

The hotel grounds were amazing, I had a great time. I wish they had more variety on the choices of music at the mini nightclub but overall everything was wonderful. The staff is top notch as well...especially the animation team.

The Majestic is beautiful on the eyes and is very well maintained. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the cleaning staff did a very good job. Tip wasn't expected but appreciated. The food and some of the staff were a problem. The food didn't make me sick, but it wasn't great either. This is not a five star hotel based on the quality of food. The breakfast, as with anywhere, was great. Lunch was ok but not great. The best dinner for me was @ the Japanese restaurant. I believe I ate @ all the a la carte's and went to the Japanese twice, loved it both times. The rest were, again, ok. As for the staff, I didn't have any problems with any of them except the casino staff. At times rude, at times nice. I guess it depended on how well you did. The more you lost the nicer they were. They weren't all that way, but the majority were. They even tried to rip me off by giving my winnings to me in pesos although I bet in USDs. When I tried to confront them, they claimed not to speak english. Overall I had an excellent trip, it wasn't my choice to go this hotel (wedding) and I don't see myself there again. Mainly because after 12:00 the hotel is lifeless. Not a great place for young singles.

THE HOTEL WAS VERY NICE, ROOMS VERY CLEAN AND COMFORTABLE- FOOD OPTIONS WERE ABOVE AVERAGE IN ALL BUT THE CHINESE DINING-COULD NOT EAT FOOD THERE- STAFF WERE GENERALLY FRIENDLY. BEACH IS NICE- ONLY COMPLAINTS IS SIZE OF FACILITY- TO WALK FROM FRONT LOBBY TO OUR ROOM WAS OVER A 10 MINUTE WALK- (IN THE HEAT) THE PROBLEM DURING OUR STAY WAS KEYS BECAME DEMAGNITIZED AND IN ONE AFTERNOON SPENT ONE HOUR WALKING BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN LOBBY AND ROOM TRYING TO GET IN- ON THE SECOND TREK THERE WERE 3 MAIDS OUTSIDE OUR ROOM BUT COULD NOT GET THEM TO UNDERSTAND ME TO LET ME IN. IF YOU STAY THERE STAY MIDWAY BETWEEN LOBBY AND BEACH- OVERALL A NICE PLACE BUT SOMEWHAT OVERPRICED
