Majestic Colonial Punta Cana - All Inclusive

[...] Food was mediocre and gets old by the second day. Service was lacking. Spent a lot of time waiting for something to drink. The rooms have very thin walls and you can hear anything within a 100ft of your room. The rooms power is set on a motion sensor and automatically shut off when you leave, including the alarm clock. Not having a clock doesn't seem that bad, except the restaurants are only open a few hours at a time and then you have to travel to the opposite end of the resort to eat at another one. There are also not enough chairs at the beach and pool. People "save" them with there towels early in the morning, and then wander off. Which means if your not there early, then you don't get a seat. Very frustrating experience and not an enjoyable 10 year wedding anniversary. We will not be back.

The people that worked at the hotel were VERY rude, and most of them including the front desk staff did not speak one word of english, therefor you were pretty much on your own if you had a question about anything, even the little things such as where's the bathroom, a garbage can or a restaurant. The panhandling on the beach and everywhere you go is absolutely the most annoying thing ever. The rooms smell HORRIBLE!!! and we had an unwanted guest, a big fat roach!!! So did the couple we were travelling with. the beds were very hard and squeaky every time you moved at all. We are not picky travellers and have been to several islands and this was the worst experience ever. Don't stay here and I woul just skip Punta Cana altogether if I had to do it all over again!!!!!

Arrived and found out that a the spa, pool bar and two of the restaurants had burnt down a week earlier. We were never informed of this nor compensated in any kind of way. Staff was rude and not helpful at all. Never got answers to any of our questions. Rooms smelled horrible, beds were hard, bedside lamp sparked when turned on, lights would randomly turn on and off, alarm clock was always 12:00 and there was a giant cockroach in my towel. Not much to be said about the food. Trying to get aroound the resort was ridiculous, I'm not a picky person at all but this was a horrible horrible expirence. I couldn't wait to leave.

There were a lot of positives about this resort- the rooms and grounds are beautiful, the housekeeping staff did an excellent job of keeping everything spotless, and the food-service staff were absolutely the best- they were entertaining, had us laughing the whole time, and were really nice guys. But the front desk and guest services people were absolutely useless. The first night I got there, we had a rain storm that flooded my room. There was a 6-foot puddle spilling in through the front door. I called the front desk twice just asking for some extra towels to soak it up, and they just never sent anyone. I didn't get new towels until the next afternoon, when the housekeepers did the normal room cleaning, meaning I was treading through the water and wet towels for most of the next day every time I came and went from my room. I met my entire family down there, but because we had different flights, no one knew each others rooms when we arrived. I attempted several times to call the front desk and get connected to their rooms so we could communicate, and every time I was put on hold and forgotten about, or hung up on. It didn't matter if I asked in English or Spanish. Every one else had similar issues- my step-father had something left for him at the front desk, and had to go through 3 staff members who weren't even willing to look for it before telling him it wasn't there, and one who gave him an attitude for interrupting their texting on their cell phone while at work to ask them for it, before someone took the 30 seconds to look and get the package for him. My father was missing the remote for his room and had to call down every night for like 3 days before they brought him one. My brother ordered internet for his room, and for 4 hours they kept telling him it would just be a few more minutes before it started working, before he finally gave up and went to the business center instead. It was like a "ridiculous vacation" episode of a sitcom. Also, it was my brother's wedding, and the wedding planning left a lot to be desired. We had the gazebo booked for the wedding rehearsal one evening, and the staff booked some other event in there at the same time. The staff broke several expensive wedding keepsakes (one they actually kicked over seconds before the bride walked down the aisle, and we had to delay while the swept up the glass), and we ended up having to use a sand-ceremony vessel with some other couples names on it. Overall, even though they had a lot of really nice people working there, and the place was beautiful, all of the people who were in charge of anything that mattered were unhelpful, ignored even the most minor and reasonable requests, and basically didn't care about doing their jobs at all once they had out money. I would not recommend this hotel unless they had a major overhaul of the guest services and front desk staff.

The overall hotel was nice the staff didnt really speak too much english. The main issue was the hotel decided they were gonna do airconditioning repairs and never notified the guests until the day prior. The air conditioning was shut down for 24 hours one day and then the power was shut off on another day for 4-6hours. There was only 1 restaurant open on these dates due to the lack of power and air conditioning. The other resources such as club,casino,theatre etc. were still open with no air conditioning???? Bottom line it was hot as hell. I was extremely uncomfortable with the no power (no lights) situation. The entire resort was pitch black! We were forced to retire to our rooms where we couldnt see our hands in front of our faces! I don't want a curfew escpecially when i'm on vacation. If this didnt occur i would have had an awesome trip. It put a damper on my and my fiance's vacation. Other than this issue the hotel was beautiful the food was ok the drinks were good. I ate and drank everything and didnt get sick (contrary to what some say).

The positive: the resort, pool and beach were beautiful but that is where it stopped. Very disappointed with the service..most staff do not speak or understand English at all!! Most only understand and speak Spanish. This 5 star in DR is comparable to a 3 star in Mexico. The ones that did speak English were not service oriented.. We are not high maintenance people but if we need something we expect to be acknowledged. There were no washcloths available and we asked repeatedly (x5days)but NEVER received one. Housekeeping failed to put drinks in refrigerator...after 48 hours and a call to guest services still no drinks...activities people were not organized so guests entertained themselves during the day around the pool. They were only interested in dancing in late afternoon. Food was WAY below PAR..many people (including my husband and son) were sick..both were using bottled water but it didn't matter. Majestic Colonial Pharmacy was out of Immodium so they sent him over to Majestic Elegance (sick) to get some and they would only sell him 1 blister back of 10 pills...rationing Immodium?? I heard other guests discussing people being sick. We will not return to the DR. Do not leave the resort unless on an outing with a tour company. Dangerous outside of resort. Rooms were huge but beware the coolest was around 78 degrees at night. Extremely hot..Overall we were very disappointed and we had read the reviews before booking the trip. The resort has SO much potential but they need to concentrate on the level and quality of service.

The hotel was beautiful. The rooms and the resort were very very nice. The beds and pillows were behond hard. The food was horrible, food was cold all the time. The food looked and tasted like Golden Corral. We were very dissapointed. No activities after 10pm. The night club was always empty because they played really bad hip hop music. I was expecting spanish music. All the staff were very nice and courteous. This hotel was not a 4 star hotel.

After visiting Excellence in Riviera Cancun last year, we found ourselves comparing every little detail. It was not even close. Excellence was far better. Majestic is nice hotel, it offers everything you could want: decent rooms, nice pool, swim-up bar, restaurants, spa and much more. But the attention to details is their biggest downfall. The room service was not timely. We got to the resort at 4, the room was not ready, when it was, we didnt have sheets on out bed, when we got our sheets, they were wet, yes, we slept on the wet sheets. They only left us 2 towels. How are we supposed to dry our hands? Bath robes were none existent. The pool was great, no complaints. The swim-up could be great. They only had 2 bartenders and a packed house. Lets be real, a wait at any bar is expected, but not 10 minutes either. The restaurants are nice, the food is terrible, the service is worse. Our very first lunch, they never brought our drinks. The wait staff runs around all over the place with no order. Breakfast was best food. Its pretty hard to mess up eggs and fruit though. All in all, it was a good trip, only because we are not the type to complain. If you are picky, this is not the place for you. Luckily we were with friends and made light of the situation.

To start off, this was my first time in Punta Cana and usually I make the most out of any situation, but at this time I must say I was dissapointed. I was not impressed with this resort at all. When we first arrived things started out well, but to our surprise it wasn't what we expected. The room was not cleaned properly and it took an hour to get it cleaned and we still ended up with old sheets. The bed was made everyday but the sheets remained the same throughout our stay. As we moved on the area in general is well groomed and the beach is clean and nice. The food and service leaves something to be desired. If you do not speak spanish or do not understand any spanish at all this is not the resort for you. The plates and glasses were not cleaned well at all and the food was the same everyday. The service is very poor, although friendly we could not get anything we asked for until 15 mins later when it came to ordering drinks, trying to place an order in their overly booked resturants, or receiving your food before it got cold after you placed your order and an hour if it was something for the room. They are very unorganized in their service at this resort and would recommend you staying on the elegance side of the resort, but I don't think its going to be any better if you decide to book here. I have been to other all inclusive resorts and never have I been so dissapointed. I made the best of the situation and did what I could to enjoy may stay over all and refrained from asking for anything and making sure the plates were cleaned even though I got sick after I left with a stomach virus. I wouldn't recommend this resort to anyone I like and wish that I could have proposed to my girlfriend at a better location. For this place to be only 4 years old it needs help.

Great rooms, pool and location - I would highly recommend the resort if the food wasn't so bad across the board.
