Unhappy camper

The resort was very beautiful, but the service from the reception area was poor and not very friendly, and really did'nt seem concerned with our complaints, our room key did not work the whole time we were there.. we had it changed several times.. (we had joining rooms so we could get in)the keypad was broke.. My nieces used a calling card to contact family in the USA and paid $10.00 for each card.. at check out the resort charged them for additional charges that they were not told about..$38.00 the house keeping was "awful" we had to make our own beds a couple of times. they advertise soft drinks in frig.... we did not have soda or water which we needed because we could not drink the water at the resorts more than half the time.. The buffet was great a wide range of foods, the staff were very good, no complaints on this... "GREAT JOB" the airline "Delta" on the way home was terrible.. misplaced our luggage.(for three days now) they had put the bag tags on incorrectly... flight delayed, and then informed passengers there were problems with the plane but are fixed now.... Delta, I have called several times and yet to reach anyone to speak with because they wont answer the phone... my mother in law had them finally call me, and we I did let them know that they are sending the suitcases to my nieces houses (30 miles away). they said that they have to send it to the tagged customer... would not listen.. I will NEVER fly Delta again...

Grand Paradise Is Not So Grand

First let me say that the trip was well worth the money spent. The room was large and very comfortable. Now, on to the good stuff. I purchased round trip taxi service from Orbitz and did not receive the service. I ended up paying over $160.00 for taxi service to and from the hotel, not a good deal. My wife arrived on a later flight than I and had to pay taxi service to the hotel after I had purchased a voucher and gave it to her! The air conditioning in the room did not work - temp was in the 90's, the humidity higher! It took five days to fix it, including a room change and promises that it would be done in "ten minutes" which is their favorite way of addressing problems. The room was well maintained, except one day, no pillows, one day no water, one day no towels, one day one towel, etc, etc. The grounds are dirty, the beach is dirty and the general area is in disrepair! No air conditioning anywhere except the gift shop! Very few evening activities until very late into the night! Coffee service at the various bars did not open until 10am, which turned into 10:30 am! Coffee is a morning drink and not an afternoon delight! Many of the huts are dilapidated and not in good condition. Towel service at the beach opened at 10am, but no towels were available until 11am! Everyone goes to the beach early and the towel service began at 11am!! Have been to other resorts in Punta Cana, this one does not stack up to any of them! In the dining hall, all the food, over 100 entrees all tasted the same! The free internet wifi was $8.00 dollars an hour which elapsed in about 25 minutes!! The people are nice and friendly until you ask them to do something! Pesos were asked for all cash transactions, but US dollars are given in change!

Grand Paradise Bavaro

The location is an hour drive from the airport, something that should be noted before booking. No highways, so mileage from airport is important to note. Retrieving baggage was an issue. The airlines sent the bag to Santo Domingo which is 100 miles from the resort. It took two days to get it delivered, the language barrier made it convenient for the staff to not take too much responsibility in helping to correct the situation. The hotel only has one bar that has drinks available 24 hours a day, not food. We were scheduled to arrive at a time when there was no food service and we were scheduled to leave 3 hours before our flight, causing us to leave before getting anything for breakfast before a long travel day. In our room there was leaking from the ceiling of the bathroom. The TV turned on/off with the light switch, and eventually the TV stopped working all together. I had to track down housekeeping twice to get fresh towels, of which I eventually got one additional hand towel and one body towel. There were no wash clothes and no change of linens during our multiple day stay. We tried to reserve seating for the two nights we had left for dinner at noon and found out that all the restaurants were booked for the first night and only one remote restaraunt with an opening for the second night was available. I know those restaraunts were never full, so I don't understand how that could happen. Overall I was not happy with the accommodations or staff assistance, and would not recommend this property to others in the future.

Great vacation

I booked this hotel before I read the reviews, bad thing to do!!!!! The worst thing about the hotel is that the staff is very rude, especially at the reception area. Even though the hotel was clean and well maintained,we had a problem the second day we were there, we got locked out of our room for over 3 hours, mind you this was when we got back from the beach, soaking wet and at 7:00 PM.We went to the front lobby and told them what was happening, they didnt even aknowlegde us, they just didnt care. They took their sweet time to locate the master key. When the maid finally came after 2 hours it still did not open. So at this point they had to call a technitian and that took another hour because he came with his bicycle from who knows where. They finally had to change the system. Another thing that was bad is that when you read the hotel features, they say they have 7 restaurants, but they dont tell you that you can only go to two of them in a week stay. We whent to the Sea Scape and the service was terrible, they took for ever to bring you a glass of wine and thats not because they were busy, because the restaurant was empy, so we just walked out, and believe me we have never done that.Overall the food was so so, you could always find something to eat at the buffet. The one great thing about this hotel is the great beach they have, but make sure you get your beach towels before 9 am, cause they always run out of clean ones.

HOPE YOU LIKE NO AC THE WHOLE STAY

AC didnt work almost the whole weeks stay that we were there. Most of the employees do not seem to care if you are having a good time or not. Beaches are gorgeous and there were plenty of pools and swim up bars. Food is decent and edible.

Not as nice as you would hope!

Although my friends and I had a lot of issues with the room and staff, mostly due to the language barrier, we had a great time at the pool and the beach!

Food was good in the more elite restaurants; however the buffet and other diners, although all inclusive, left much to be desired...

Just an ok trip

The hotel was ok. However the bed was not very comfortable. I had an allergic reaction to the sheets, when I requested for the sheets to be changed, they never changed it. They just took the sheet off the bed. I was there for 7 nights, I had to sleep on my bath towel. The AC was not working properly, It was very hot in the night. Dining was also just ok, the food gets boring after being there for a while. Entertainnent was good, the dancers are really talented and I enjoyed it.

The truth.

Well, there was good times and bad times. Honestly, if you can afford it, go to a different hotel. This hotel has taken every effort to get the most money out you with little to show forth. The quality of the food was mediocre at best. When we arrived we were told that we could only make a reservation to two restaurants, even though when I booked the trip, they had said it was three restaurants. So I argued it, and they gave me the other voucher. But really, it was a joke. You have to stand in a long line between the hours of 10:30-3pm and hope there is a reservation available. We made two reservation and when we went back to make our third one, we were told that all the restaurants were filled until after we were leaving! So, once again I had to go and argue with hotel management about this issue. We were then given a reservation. The nightly entertainment was extremely vulgar and amateur. The female dancers constantly showing off and shaking the rear end; it felt almost like going to a strip club. The only thing they did was "dance" (again extremely amateur), games involving the audience and lisping using CD's. If this is your type of entertainment, then you might very well enjoy it. Just ridiculous. The beach area is absolutely gorgeous… but that was made by God and therefore, I don't feel it should be a part of this hotel's review. In my past vacations the food, service, and entertainment have been amazing. This resort was not up to par. Regardless, good luck and pick a different hotel if at all possible. I wish I would have listened to the many people on the internet reviews that discouraged people from going to this resort.

[...] AREN'T WORTH IT

We 1st got to the resort and thought it was beautiful. The front desk at 1st seemed extra nice. They told us they were upgrading us to a better suite with ocean view instead of garden view.We get to the room and its a regular dumpy room with double beds on our honeymoon! They proceed to tell us that the room we booked is closed because its not the busy season. So who screwed up? [...] Considering out of the 2300 we spent i saw that the hotel only got 517.50.So [...] took a nice big chunk of that.i feel we should be reimbursed some money considering we didnt get what we paid for! we finally got a better room with a beautiful view but was not what we reserved. And it took some yelling to get the room. Everytime we asked the front desk anything they acted like you were a bother to them.So we are already mad.The food is low quality. The meats have funny tastes to them.Im sure its just because of the seasoning.Bartenders, maids, and there recreation people were great. The resort which im sure happens everywhere lets these sales people in everyday! So prepare to be bothered 15 times a day to go on an excursion,or a timeshare or whatever they are pedaling. We went on 2 excursions.Horseback riding and speed boat. Both were fun. Dont buy them online its much cheaper when you are there because they will barter with you. Then when buying things like necklaces or statues etc.these people try to rip you off.Its very funny. One guy started at 87 us dollars and when we walked away he was chasing us yelling ok 20 dollars! so dont be fooled.Driving there is interesting prepare to bring a helmet and blindfold lol. Overall the reviews for the grand paradise bavaro were exactly what people said. Its a 3 star resort at best. More likely a 2.5 star if you ask me.And trust me we are not high maintanance people. We just want what we paid for! The beach is beautiful and so is the pool. They do keep the grounds in great shape there. The bartenders and maids are very nice.If you want something from your maid i suggest leaving them 2 dollars a day and they will stock you up.Otherwise you get a gallon of water,1 20oz coke and sprite.Oh yeah it also says 24 hour room service. What a joke that is. Room service is only soda and water. So dont think you ordering in at all. Also pay attention to this place because they dont really explain where everything is. We were there 5 days and on the 4th day we were finally just learning how everything worked. I booked this place by accident. The name was so similar to one of the other places we wanted to stay and i messed up.[...]BOOK THROUGH A TRAVEL AGENT! spend the extra 150 bucks and stay at the majestic or the palace! OH YEAH BRUSH UP ON YOUR SPANISH !! no comprendo mucho!
