works for spring break

the hotel is not great but a good value. the location is awesome, the beach is beautiful, there are plenty of bars... the food might make you sick a little so bring medicine in advance, except the dinner reservation restaurants were all great... the staff acts like you are inconveniencing them so don't expect great service but overall for spring break, it was good.

Spring Break Getaway

For a spring break location, Grand Paradise Bavaro was a great location. There was always something to do. There were plenty of pools and the beach was only a walk away from my hotel room. The downfall was the food. Half of the people from my trip got very sick and had to spend the day in their bathrooms. This could be correlated to the amount of drinking of alcohol and not water though so I don't hold the hotel 100% liable.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

Bring more than enough sunscreen, snacks, hats, and bathing suits. Everything on the resort is way overpriced. Sunscreen can cost anything from $32-50 depending on the SPF. Doritos costed $8 a bag. So... knowing you might not like the food, you might want to bring peanut butter, bread, and some cliff bars!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

I have never been so disgusted with a hotel in my life before. This hotel took us 3 hours to check in…3 hours! The room had no pictures, tv didn't work, and smelled funky. They charge you for everything and don't maintain the hotel room at all. WE GOT SO SICK FROM THE FOOD. We literally had nothing to eat by the end of the trip except bread. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Natural beauty makes the place.

I went to spend my 2011 Spring Break with my girlfriend and friends. The hotel service was a complete disaster. First of all transportation to the airport to the hotel took hours and we had no idea where to go. Locals barely spoke English and everybody is trying to offer a ride. Very sketchy. I spoke a little Spanish so I somehow manage to figure ou the safest way to get to the hotel. That not being enough, the checking was the worst of the problems. Lots of people were arriving at the same time and the front desk had no idea what to do. They could find our names on the system and they made us go all the way to the other side of the hotel, which btw was huge. Our luggage was in the middle of the main entrance together with several others. Easy to get lost or stolen. While doing my check in I could see other guests complaining about their rooms having the wrong number of beds, no hot water, or electricity. And once again language was a problem. Once we got situated in hour rooms after hours. We went to enjoy the place. Landscape is abosolutely beautiful. Beach water is clear, sand is thin and nice. The hotel had good assests such as big pools, bars, and restaurants in several locations. Locals were friendly and entreteining. The ones working at the bars werent so much and didnt care much about the drinks. they would just make anything and give it to you, and barely put alcohol on it. At times it would take hours to get a drink. The were several restaurants around the hotel including buffets. some of them you had to make reservartions, but on the first day they were all booked. so we barely got to eat at them. the buffet was good. many options and decent quality food. overall i had a good vacation, but felt that there were too many gaps since we had all already paid. they rely on the beauty of the place too much and are careless about details, specially during spring break when they assume everybody is drunk and wont care.

Terrible Experience, Horid.

I recently vacationed at the Grand Paradise Bavaro and had a terrible time. While it is very cheap for an all inclusive, it offers the absolute bare minimum for a resort. For starters, I was not able to eat anywhere but the TERRIBLE buffet for both lunch and dinner every day. While it was understood that you had to make reservations for different sit down dinners, every single place was booked for two weeks and the service did not care one bit that you didn't get to experience any of the restaurants. Furthermore, the resort was strangely stingy about giving out beach/pool towels, and when then finally did, they never had towels available and would say to come back in a few hours - ridiculous. Service throughout the resort was sub-par to say the least. Every single worker, whether it was a bar tender, a maid, or a desk worker, they quite simply could care less. They were not friendly, not helpful, and tried to con you as often as possible into spending more money and getting sucked into different trips and excursions - no matter how strong a front you put up. Other small things of note...the hut tub was never on, or hot; the grounds were poorly kept - most fountains weren't on and were littered with trash, but if they were on it was filled with random cups and garbage; for three straight days no maid provided my room with toilet paper - and when asked, they simply had no idea. The maids also rarely changed out dirty towels, or restocked the refrigerator with water. The alcohol used at the bars was of the lowest and cheapest variety, and the drinks barely had any alcohol in them - the bartenders waited to be tipped heavily before putting in more than a half a shot. Each room was only given one room key regardless of the occupants, which was a huge pain, and many of my friends staying in other rooms around the resort had many things stolen like sunglasses, laptops, and money. I HIGHLY ADVISE ANYONE TO NOT GO HERE, my experience was not just to my own and I guarantee if you find yourself here you will REGRET it. My honest thoughts - pony up the extra money and go else where so you actually enjoy your vacation rather than being sick the entire time from their terrible service, food (all i ate were dinner rolls), and grain alcohol.

Food service is not good.

The Hotel was ok for family but not so great for singles. Food service is only open untill 11PM. it suppose to be open 24 hours. For example, if you are single and you are at disco untill 3 or 4 AM in the morning nothing is open. so recommendation for singles.. this is not so good. If you want to bring some guest to spend some time with you. it is impossible to get a day or night pass even if you pay money. so singles stay away form this hotels. Besides that, AC does not work very well.
