Fun in the Sun
The check in process was horrible, I have never experienced anything like it. Your dropped off in front of a main lobby then your told to go to another area where you have to be transported and wait in line again. The booking was misleading. The main part of the hotel is on the ocean. (Great location) However, there are three sections, our room was a 15min walk to the beach (Poor location). There are trolleys available for transport but when its busy you have to wait over 10 minutes for one. So organize your day to not go back and forth to the room if you happen to get stuck in a building far from the main hotel. If you have kids travel with a DVD player, half the time the TV did not work for times when you don't leave the room. The entertainment and food were pretty good. Overall for the price it was okay.

Our experience at Grand Paradise
We were a bit worried before going because of all the mixed reviews we read but they all did help because we sort of knew what to expect good and bad. The beach is definately the best part of it. The pools were also very nice. They were right about the rooms not being so great and the air conditioning not working as well as you'd like. For us the worst part was the room. The balcony door in our room did not close all the way and we had to call about 4 times for them to actually come fix it. The maintenance and cleanliness was not so good. We had a standard room so maybe paying extra for an upgrade would be your best bet. I heard a couple of bad reviews on the food but the food wasn't so bad for us. We went to the Asian restaurant which was great but we also went to the Dominican one and we thought it was terrible and there were very few menu options. I am dominican myself and thought that was an awful representation for typical dominican food! The buffet restaurants which were without reservations were ok, breakfast was the best. When we spoke to other couples there about the restaurants they agreed the Asian one was the only one worth making reservations for. The nightly shows were pretty entertaining and the night club was ok. Overall we would say this resort was good for the price but wouldn't return--we'd probably visit a more 4 or 5 star resort that would be more worth our money!

Nothing but the truth...
Most of the time we were there was spent at the beach. It was absolutely beautiful, although some days the current was very strong. Of all of the islands I have been to, this beach rated among the top with me. Hotel was very nice and the pool was great...except it was not very refreshing. If you are traveling with kids this would be a great place to go. They had quite a bit of things going on day and night for them. We did have stomach problems throughout the week and came to the conclusion it was the water we were drinking that was "filtered". Meals became redundant after awhile and we found ourselves sticking to "safe" dishes like french fries, rice and chicken. Some of the staff did not speak much english but were very friendly. If you know a few words of spanish you will be fine. For the money we paid the vacation was worth it but I would not return to P.C.

Eh
The resort was average. We stayed for a week during the middle of July. A wave of guests came during the weekend and the resort stayed crowded until about Tuesday. The bars, beach, and pools were suddenly packed. Drinks became weaker and weaker in regards to alcohol content, the buffet was extremely crowded, and same with the beach-could not find a chair on the beach unless we went super early. By Wednesday and Thursday all the tourists left and the resort was dead. Check in was horrible and unorganized. The language barrier with reception caused us to check in under the wrong guest and we got a tacky, trashed, below average room near the beach instead of the suite we paid extra money for. When we complained, they sent us to the reception in the back that they call the "Club" area. Further from beach, but the rooms were better. Not great, just ok. The maid service kept barging in while we were in the room and there wasn't a "DO NOT DISTURB" sign for the door. We had to lock our stuff up everytime we left the room. To sum up, the rooms were just ok (nothing special), the drinks were very sweet (bees were attacking the bottles of liquor) but decent, the crowd was mainly families with kids and singles looking for nightlife, and the food buffet was suprisingly awesome (no stomach problems while adjusting). Do the Buggy adventure tour... lots of fun but the dvd is a rip off. Don't forget the little things from home like sunscreen, hat, sandals, cigarettes/lighter, etc. They have some stores on the resort, but sunscreen was like US$30 and the cheesy hats they had in stock went for US$45. Plus the clerks at the store were very unpleasant.

The resort gives you reservation tickets for the a la carte restaurants. If you decide to use them, make reservations right away. We were unable use one of our reservations because we did not book a reservation early enough and everything restaurant was full.

excellent beach location
It took us 3 hours to register. when we finally got our room if was not well kept and had a mold smell. We request a change of room and we had to wait another 2 hours for the change. No refreshment welcome or snack while we waited all these time.

fun vacation
Each day started off with breakfast buffet and laying by pool/beach. Beach is gorgeous, however, there needs to be more cabanas to lay under. People put towels down the night before and it is almost impossible to get a cabana for the day. Food was alright, nothing to write home about, bring stomach remedies just in case. 3/4 of us had stomach issues by the time we were leaving after 7 days. Asian restaurant was definitely the best ($10 per person but worth it) Three parts to the hotel--beach, middle and far end near the gate opening.. our rooms were literally 20ft from beach and i wouldnt have wanted it any other way. The way back part has a lot of french people and french activities (signs are in french as well as spanish) Must take a trolley to middle and back parts if you don't want to walk. Middle pool has a great pool bar--bartenders are really energetics. Definitely do an excursion--gets you out of hotel and allows you to see different part of country. I did Catalina island and it was a great time--banana boating, tubing, lunch, boat tour and tour around casa de campo which was my favorite. Stayed at The Majestic the year before which is right next to Grand Paradise and I liked that beach and pool much better. (more cabanas) For the money--Grand Paradise is definitely worth it, but if you want a luxurious resort, pay more somewhere else.
