Beautiful Resort, first class service
Shellbell Dec 23, 2009
We arrived about 6pm on a Friday evening. We were met at the airport by a bellboy and quickly were taken to where we needed ... to go. The ride to the resort was a bit scary, as we didn't actually observe traffic laws, but nevertheless, we arrived to a gorgeous resort where we were greeted by smiling, friendly people. Our bags were taken care of for us, we were given a cocktail and told to have a seat while they worked to get us checked in. We were given a map of the resort and wrist bands and then the bell boy took us to our room. The room was spotless, decorated beautifully with fresh flowers. We went down to dinner, where we were greeted by many smiling faces and brought to our table where we were waited on hand and foot during our entire meal. We never had a bad meal while we were there, not even at the buffet. We always found a beach or a pool chair. We had the vacation of a lifetime. The only thing that I could think to complain about was the fact that we were only ever brought 1 washcloth when they would clean our rooms. It was a bit odd since there were 2 of us, but we made do. We had a 5 star experience. There were people around us that we noticed complaining, and funny thing about that was, the majority of the complainers were Americans-go figure. The people that worked on the resort were such hardworking individuals, day in and day out, the same people, all day long. They were so interested in serving us and making our stay enjoyable. They always had time to give us a smile and greet us. Tipping went a long way down there. These people appreciate even a dollar or two. We stayed on the resort the entire week and didn't do any of the excursions. We were there to relax. There was always stuff to do. Pool areobics, dance lessons, beach sports, shows in the evening...we took in several. The most amazing was the Michael Jackson show, put on by their proffessional theater team. They lip-syched the music and danced. They were amazing! In fact, we sat through both shows that were put on that evening. We were very sad to leave and absolutely will be making a trip back there. This trip was especially memorable for us, because we became engaged. Special memories from a truely beautiful vacation.

A lot of Europeans this time of year which had I know there wasn't going to be much English being spoken we would've gone ... after the holidays. The drinks were watered down and the food was just ok. We were not impressed with the dinners at the so called fine dining restaurants. We loved teh beach though. The pool was nice too. The beach doesn't get any better than where we were!

Good vacation for price
anonymous Nov 29, 2009
This was a great vacation for the price. We were here 11/20-27 and the hotel was at a 100% occupancy. Here are the ... highlights: Beach: Gorgeous, but a little loud. Lots of Europeans which = lots of topless women and smoking. Pool: only 1 at the ambar side but large and gorgeous Grounds: AMAZING! Well maintained! Rooms: Very large but there are no ocean views Food: 3 ala carte options for dinner on the ambar side (you can to the other restaurants but the quality is not as good) and food was hit and miss. Most was bland & catered towards the Europeans. Buffet style for breakfast and lunch which became redundant. Drinks: The pool & beach bar had the local fare but the hotel lobby had some imported alcohol. Overall, the drinks were good and not watered down. Fitness center: 2 treadmills, 2 ellipticals, & 6 spinning bikes. It serves its purpose but not fancy Water sports: hotel did not have snorkels or rafts. Bring your own! Did have kayaks and hobie cats to use. I would recommend this hotel if you get a good bargain because the beach and grounds are gorgeous. Otherwise the loudness and food would keep me away. I would not recommend this hotel if its your first time out of the US.

We went down without our 4 children for a 4 day break. It was the best vacation we've ever had with or without the kids. ... The staff was wonderful, the drinks were great, the couples massage was unbelievable. The weather couldn't have been better. We met alot of nice people there on vacation as well, most of them repeaters! That says alot. We'd definately go back and bring the kids.

We did the couples spa.. It was ok.. It was more a rub down than what we had selected from the choices. We also did a ... snorkling excursion, and it was nice. The staff did not provide pictures or video while we were snorkling.I've had this done in a few other punta cana resorts. It would of been nice to have for memories. The staff was great with keeping up with our celebrations.. We were celebrating our first year wedding anniversary and my birthday. They gave us extra ammenities like 10% off our massages. The staff also provided a cake and extra desserts for both occasions.. It was awesome!

Excellent Facility
JMV Aug 10, 2009
My only real negative was that I found myself having to get pushy in order to get simple things...I expected more from a 5 ... star resort. For example, we tried requesting a pillow (a normal extra pillow) at midnight. We were immediately told 'no' b/c the person in charge of the pillows was gone for the day. I had to get on the phone and get upset that in a 500 plus room (at half capacity), five star facility they couldnt find one extra pillow. The pillow was in our room within 5 minutes. But why did we even have to become aggravated just for that simple request? Other than things like that the facility is top notch.

Awesome Honeymoon Vacation
The Newlyweds Aug 10, 2009
We had a friend that mentioned this resort as a great resort. So we went along with his recommendation. We were overwelmed ... on how beautiful this resort was. We were looking for somewhere to go to relax and just be by ourselves and the Ambar location since it was adults only was definitely the place to do this. Whether it was laying by the beach or the pool they were both equally enjoyable. At night, the shows were extremely entertaining as well as all of the shops on the resort. No need to leave the resort unless you want to do any of the tours. We personally just enjoyed the resort and never left for any tours. The food was great everynight whether it was the buffet or the several different types of restaurants. Overall this was an excellent resort and would come back again.
Traveler type: Couples
Make sure to make your dinner reservations before arrival if possible or the first day you arrive. They provide you with reservations for the 3 resturants in the Ambar area upon arrival but after that you are on you own. When in doubt, the buffet is excellent. Every night a different choice of food...ie oriental, carribean, american, french and mexican.

Quiet adult get away
Beth Aug 10, 2009
Good for relaxing get away for couples --- entertainment was located at other campuses of the large resort - adults only ... section smaller without noise and hullabaloo. Food was good for all inclusive - more continental fare -- if you want better then pay for it in Paris and then complain. Note --- local transportation arranged by Orbitz requested call backs and visits which were annoying --- adults on relatively short trip don't want to have to chase down the transport people to confirm leave times, etc.
Traveler type: Couples
There are shops in the main hotel area --- so you do not have to leave the resort compound. Some vendor aggression. Many hotel visitors say they enjoy walking 45 minutes down beach to local shopping area -- but vendors are aggressive.

Very Nice But...........
Empty Nesters Jul 28, 2009
My wife and I decided to visit Punta Cana because we had heard that it was so great. We arrived in Punta Cana and had no ... problem locating our tranporatation to the resort. We knew that our resort was one of three resorts and but we didn't know that the other two were right there with the Adult Only resort. The other two were family resorts and that is where we were dropped off. When my wife tried to explain that we were at the wrong resort they didn't understand what we were talking about and we had to good to the check in counter and speak with the staff there. They looked up our reservations and then we were taken around to the correct resort. We arrived at the adult only resort around 2:00 p.m but our room was not ready until about 3:30 p.m. The accommodations were great, the service staff nice but loud. Very early, conversation were carried on in spanish without regarda to those of use who were asleep. Gentleman beware, you have to wear long pants in all resturants for dinner. They relax that rule some during breakfast and lunch, but will turn you away at the door for dinner. The food was good and plentiful so no worrys there. The beach was beautiful, but because the adult area was so close to the family area, the children were everywhere. I have nothing against children, but if I want to vacation with them, I would not go to an ADULT ONLY resort. When had to go the very far end of the resort property to get some peace. My one piece of advice is, brush up on your Spanish, hardly none of the staff spoke english and didn't have patience to deal with those of us who didn't speak their language. Almost everything done in Spanish and we had a hard time understanding. Now for the transportation back to the airport, we spent half of the 1st day looking for the representative for Coco Tours and make arrangement for our return trip. We asked about five people before we finally found out where we were suppose to go and then the rep was late. When we finally got with him, he just took our name and told us to come back the day before we were to leave to get a time for pickup. On that day, he had a family with a complaint and we waited for over an hour to get the time for pickup. We have traveled to different countries and stayed at a lot of different All-Inclusive (Adult Only) resorts. We personally will not return to this resort. But please, find out for yourself.

Eat in the resort. The choices meals are vast and you can easily tailor your meals to your taste. We particulary enjoyed eating in both the Mediterrenean restaurant and french Don Pablo restaurants. Recommend eating all of your breakfasts at the main hotel (Amber) buffet, the other resort hotels were a little too noisy for us. The vast choices of food types, friendly staff and quiet ambience in Ambar starts the day very nicely.
