Beautiful beaches and welcoming staff
Caribean cruiser Dec 27, 2009
This hotel is beautiful..on the outside. The rooms are a bit disappointing as is the "ocean view" we paid for; the resort is ... set back from the ocean- separated by the pool and dining facilities- so don't waste your money on an ocean view, it should be called "pool view with a little ocean in the background". The beach, pool, and facilities were immaculate and impressive but the rooms were not: kind of smelly, small, cheap furniture. I was expecting something more luxurious based on the lobby and grounds. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The "excellence club" provides you with 24 hr room service and access to a lounge with the best food on the resort, free movie rentals, free internet access, and lots of other amenities that make it worth the few extra bucks per night. The only real disappointment other than the room, was the food- awful. But I guess that's what you expect from an all inclusive. The only decent restaurant was The Grill. And don't be fooled by familiar offerings like "apple pie" or "falafels", what you will be served will in no way resemble what you are expecting. Very weird. Overall, I'd say that this is a great place to lie on the beach, drink some free alcohol, and get away from children. But don't go for the food or to hang out in a luxurious suite. If you spend the whole time on the beach or in the pool then it is well worth the money.

Excellente!!!!!!!
Queenie Dec 25, 2009
My husband and I travel frequently inside and outside the U.S. We had a wonderful vacation at Excellence. [...] The ride was ... 45 minutes give or take a few from the airport to the hotel. No problem there. I was interested in seeing a bit of the country since we were not doing any excursions. The people in the van were very friendly. We only made one other hotel stop on the way to Excellence. The driver was friendly and the drive was safe. He had a companion in the van that was helping and hoped to work for the van company eventually. The companion was very friendly, very nice, and told us a lot about himself and the country. A great start to our trip... The hotel was very nice. The rooms were very clean and nice. The pictures on the website do not do the resort justice. It is much prettier than the pictures depict. Very, very nice retaurants, extremely friendly, professional and respectful staff. The food is excellente! Beautiful, beautiful nights with the clear sky, full moon and many many beautiful coconut trees. The waves were rough so we never swam in the ocean. We stayed by the pool, but the resort's beach was clean and well-groomed. The staff is constantly cleaning and fixing things up. I did not see anything in disrepair or unattended to. The grounds are very well-kept. Enjoy. Tip well. They deserve it.

My wife and I were supposed to stay for 5 days, 4 nights but after the huge East Coast snow ... storm we were "forced" to extend for another 2 days and couldn't be happier. Great friendly staff that always greeted you with a smile on their faces. Truly a great week in the amazing DR weather.

This was our first time to the Dominican, and decided to book the Excellence Punta Cana. You can never tell by a website how ... the resort will actually be.....well, it was even better than we had imagined. Beautiful marble open air lobby, gorgeous pool, great food, and amazing service. We upgraded to the excellence club, and I would highly recommend this to anyone who books this hotel. The excellence club has a private section of the pool and the beach, and you are waited on all day. It felt a little weird at first, but you get used to it..lol! Room service is free (part of the package), they offer top shelf drinks if you ask for no additional charge, and the entertainment was great. Don't miss the Michael Jackson show! The only think I was slightly disappointed with was the rough ocean water. We were only able to swim one day, and the rest of the week red flags were up. I guess the resort is situated where the atlantic meets the caribbean, and the water tends to be rough. Other than that I have nothing but good things to say!

Seasoned Travel Chick Dec 9, 2009
We are veterans of the Excellence group, and have always had good experiences with their resorts. The Punta Cana location is ... consistent, and the staff is exceedingly friendly and attentive. The economy in the DR is very poor, so tips are appreciated for good service. The main pool is fantastic, and you can find a quiet spot or be in the middle of the constant cocktail hour at the swim-up bar. There is simply something for everyone. There are activities happening constantly, and shopping on the grounds, so no need to leave the resort. Oh, remember that if the resort is crowded to get to the pool early to reserve your spot. They go FAST. By early, I mean like 7 AM. No need to do that for the beach. The food - well, it is an all-inclusive, though on the higher end. It was great in some places (Lobster House, Spice) and okay in others. You just have to remember that it is an all-inclusive. Upgrade to the Excellence club for great Bulgari toiletries and even more personal service, and definitely get an oceanview suite if you can, the view is well worth it. On the tours....remember that this is still a struggling country and people will beg and bother you for money or to buy goods. The tour operators aren't always great at monitoring this. Oh, and stay out of the "shacks" next to the resort. They will overwhelm you if you try and shop there. You are better off visiting the shops on the grounds at the front of the resort. There are guards all over the resort for a reason, just keep that in mind. We are seasoned travelers and I was suprised that it was THAT bad, but you just need to roll with it. Don't wander alone off the grounds.

It was an unbelievable experience. The most gorgeous hotel I've ever seen. My boyfriend and I spent time on the beach, at ... the pool, at the bars, at all of the 10 restaurants, watched wonderful shows, rode horses, rode on a zipline, saw the country, shopped, had pedicures, etc. There was absolutely nothing else one could have yearned for. The BEST trip I have EVER taken.

I left my new, relatively expensive, suntan lotion on the beach and when I went back the next day, the towel runner ... remembered me and saved it. He was so thoughtful and even though we don't speak the same language, I hope he knew how appreciative I was!! The only thing I might add would be more shopping. Though the hotel has pretty much everything you might want...it doesn't have more. Since I don't like to leave the property, that might be my ONLY suggestion. Great food, great staff...I couldn't have been happier. We will be asking the whole family to go for a reunion there, I love it that much!!

We are a couple, 25 and 29, just vacationing! We had a garden room, thought about upgrading before we even got there...NO ... NEED! Our room was awesome. King bed, hot tub, stocked mini bar and a hamock on our porch! we made friends with a couple that had a top notch room and that was AWESOME, but you would love either! Lets just say the first half hour we were there we walked around in shock at how beautiful this place was. we had a few drinks(mamajuana-yikes) and were pulled up on stage to be in a show! the staff become your family in minutes at excellence. they are truely amazing! Each morning you awake to a schedule of activities. You never have a reason to be bored, unless thats what you want! The bars are spread out all over the resort. AND the resturants are just excellent! NO we didnt get sick from anythinggggg, like some said on reviews. We enjoyed each meal of the day! Relaxing Vacation
Tberry Nov 14, 2009
A fantastic vacation getaway. Spent 8 days doing absolutley nothing, the hardest decision was whether to swim in the ocean ... or at the pool and which of several resturaunts to eat at. Best thing about this place is the very cheerful and responsive staff, especially [...] at the pool. If your looking for a fast paced exiting place then this isn't for you. It's relatively isolated on the island and takes awhile to get to any excursions. Our room was compfortable and roomy a bit dated and the bed was a bit hard but we didn't spend much time in the room anyway, what we had was good. The shower had a small leak but everything else was working fine. No single item was 5 star luxury but the overall experience was perfect. Entertainment was okay, a good break and a good way to spend a few hours. Not Las Vegas standards but then we were in the Dominican, if you want Las Vegas class entertainment then don't come here. Food was good, again not 5 star but better than most. Beach was clean and uncluttered. The sand was clean and they kept it groomed. Plenty of beach and pool recliners were available. Towels were plentiful. Best to get with one ot the staff members and for a few dollars tip they will "reserve" a place for you. Tipping is not expected nor encouraged however for a few dollars you can significantly increase the service. Alchol was plentiful and good, may have been a bit watered down but with unlimited drinks this wasn't a problem. Did do two excursions which were very fun, recommend you book any excursion through the hotel, they take care of everything. We are already planning our next trip to an excellence property.

The Oriental restaurant was the best ( good ). The Lobster house was the worst. I did not try Room Service, you may want to. Helpful Hint: Save your money and stay away. If you go don't bother with the upgrade to the Excellence Club, you get clue less concierge, liquor in the room ( All Inclusave and free in the resort ? ), upgraded Amenities - What? , Morning Fruit basket about 7:00 PM, Morning News Paper about 4:00 PM and the opportunity to spend more money then you should.

Arrange transportation to and from the airport beforehand using Cocotours or another such company because they will only charge $35-$45. Taking a cab will cost $70 and the ride will be the most dangerous you will ever take in a car. The resort is one hour away from the airport.
