Excellence Punta Cana Luxury Adults Only - All Inclusive

When we arrived, we were escorted to the Excellence club check in because I upgraded our package. We were never told the benefits of being Excellence Club Members. We were just shown the room and had a private check in,etc. It was not until 2 days before we left that another couple with the same benefits told us we had special computers to use at our discretion, extra appetizers that the regular guests were not allowed to have, there was an extra bar and a special concierge we could use that was always available. There was also suppose to be a private dinner but we missed that as well. Also, there was a wait for the better restaurants, but the food was good. Our room was amazing but they would only give us 2 towels at a time and no hand towels. The view was the best and I recommned the junior swim up ocean view room. Room service was ridiculous, we waited 1 1/2 hours and they never came despite me calling 3 times! There was very little ice and my boyfriend got sick from drinking the tap water. There was a theater that we liked but after 10 pm, there was little night life and we were afraid to go off the grounds because the area we were was very remote and the shuttle was terrible.

The resort is a 60 minute ride from the airport where you stave off porters to tote your bag 50 feet. The resort grounds are beautiful and well kept. Check-in is friendly but they pushed an upgrade. The room was clean but was outdated and not to the level we experienced with Excellence Cancun. The service staff were a mixed bag. Some were friendly and helpful. Others such as the activity staff were condescending. Don't expect anything extra; you won't get it without a healthy tip. Hang around the sports bar if you want to get drunk with the staff. Kudos to the staff at the Chez Isabella restaurant.

Excellence Punta Cana is a very beautiful hotel. We were greated with champagne at the sidewalk getting out of the taxi! All comforts were provided. We could have wished the food was a little higher quality, but we can be kind of picky about food too. There was way too MUCH food and drink and a very enjoyable weekend. Resorts in this area are very self-sufficient and you pretty much only see the resort. Everything you need is at the resort, but you don't get a good idea of the Dominican life outside the resort.

This was my first all inclusive vacation. It was very nice from the moment we got there. The cab ride there was questionable, but the resort was first class. Some days, I was looking for lots of activities but some I just wanted to chill on the beach. This place did it all for me. You could do as much or as little as you want.

THERE WAS NO BOREDOM HERE!! EVERYTHING YOU COULD WANT TO DO OR DO NOTHING AT ALL. THE HARDEST DECISION EACH DAY WAS "WHAT'S MY NEXT DRINK?" THE RIDE FROM AIRPORT LONG AND TREACHEROUS WAS THE ONLY DOWNFALL. BEAUTIFUL RESORT, GRACIOUS STAFF, DECENT FOOD, AND LOTS OF ALCOHOL!!

After visiting the Excellence Playa Mujares in Cancun, Mexico we were a bit disappointed in the Excellence Punta Cana. We were so impressed with our Mexico trip we decided to try anothe Excellence vacation, this time in the Dominican. Definately not the same experiance. First off the ocean was rough and off limits for most of our stay, due to the undertow. Chairs by the pool were limited and if you didn't get down to claim your spot by 8AM then you couldn't get a spot by the pool. We decided to go on some tours arranged by our Orbitz representative [...]. The first tour was supposed to leave at 7:30 AM, we were waiting at 7:15 and didn't get picked up until 8:30. When we inquired at the front deck they just laughed and said that we needed to be on Dominican time. The tour was enjoyable, educational, and the toue guides were more than accomodating. The second tour again we were at the lobby at 7:30 AM, waited with other people until 9:00 only to find out Jasiel had forgotten to get a ride for us to the meeting place. This was our last day there and he said he would catch up with us in the morning to give us a refund, it was his day off. We were leaving in the morning so we called the Coco tours and they had another company refund our money for us. It wasn't so much the money but the disappointment of missing,what we had hoped would be a great day of beach and snorkling on Catalina Island,on our last day.

The Hotel and staff was great upgraded to the Excellence Club not sure but probably not worth 100.00 per day

The hotel itself is very clean and is situated beautifully on the beach. The pool is very nice and the waitstaff does an excellent job keeping you happy. Out of the 8 restaurants we had only one bad meal which was at the Lobster House, they also had bad service. The positive things I would suggest: 1) Eat at the French restaurant (it is excellent)and the Italian (also very good). 2) Look out for afternoon grilling on the beach, usually really good lunch food. 3) Order room service, very good and comes in a timely manner. 4) Don't buy anything from the shops within the resort (very expensive), go to the local shops at the end of the beach. They can be aggressive but if you hold your ground you will do well. 5) Make sure you tip everyone a 2/3/4 dollars..they are very aprpeciative and it will show in how you are treated. 6) If you are going to be there for 5 - 7 days and enjoy history take the day long excursion to Santo Domingo (the capital). Takes 3.5 hours each way, but once there worth the visit. These are few suggestions... We definitely enjoyed our trip and met several couples who have come back to Excellence after trying other resorts. We and others we befriended just wish they kept the sports bar open past 10pm, it get a little quiet at night unless you want to go to the "nightclub". The language barrier can be a little frustrating at times, but nothing that would cause me to suggest to people not to go. It is a long trip from the airport (at least an hour) and the infrastructure of the country is in bad shape (craters for potholes)...but "it is what it is" and that shouldn't stop you from going. Just keep your eyes shut for your cab or bus ride.
