Excellence Punta Cana Luxury Adults Only - All Inclusive

This was my first trip to Punta Cana and Excellence Resort exceeded any expectations I had prior to arrival. The staff here is amazing and will go out of their way to help in any way they can and will always tell you it is no problem. The resort property itself is immaculate. The rooms are spacious and luxurious and the property is kept very clean at all times. My friend and I dined at six of the eight restaurants and were delighted with the food and loved the appropriate portion sizes (unlike the U.S.). The view and beach on this property will take your breath away. I spent four days on teh beach enjoying the sun and reading and never tired of the view. The gym here has all up to date equipment and Wander teaches pilates or yoga every morning except for Sunday. He gives you a great workout. Edwin at the front desk was extremely helpful in helping us arrange a taxi to take us to a nightclub in Bavaro for dancing, even getting us drinks to take with us on the way. The absolute only downfall to this trip for me was that my friend and I were the ONLY singles on the entire resort. If you are in a couple this place could not be any better for you. If you are single and not looking to mingle this place is for you. You will not be bothered. If you are single and looking to mingle I would try a different singles oriented resort.

I highly recommend this hotel. It's nice and clean. Food and drinks were great unlike other all-inlcusive resorts that we've been too where drinks ar usually watered down. I would have given it 5 stars if it weren;t for the beach. It wasn't that nice but I guess the hotel really cant do much about that.

I have been to punta cana once before for my honeymoon and we stayed at paradisus and I can't tell you how wonderful it was. The grounds were amazing the food was amazing and the service was great. This time we went back for a friend's wedding and so we had no choice but to stay at excellence. The place was nice, but not spectacular like paradisus. I will say having a large group the small grounds made it convenient to find people. The rooms are nice and clean, the beach is beautiful, but the resort has no pizazz. My biggest problem was the food. I understand that it is an all inclusive, but the food at other resorts can be delicious. I can not say the same. I was asked by another person on the trip if there was anything we ate that we could say was really good, and the answer was no. Kind of sad. Food isn't everything, but saying that the wendy's I had at the airport when I left was the best thing I ate all week is pretty sad.

This vacation was wonderful...much needed rest and relaxation in a beautiful resort that included the works!!

Went with three other couples and everyone agreed that this place was the worst place we have ever stayed. The service was terrible and no one speaks English. It is impossible to get a drink from a waiter or waitress, you need to get everything yourself. Drinks are watered down and cheap alcohol is put in top-shelf bottles--no one is fooled, most of us are adults and know the difference. I say "most of us" because there were quite a few loud drunken people who were screaming at the pool until all hours of the night, yelling at us every time we walked past. No way is this a 5 star hotel. Not 4 star. Not 3 star. If I could leave zero stars, I would. Food was horrible throughout, especially breakfast since you would expect that is the one meal that no one can mess up. What a disappointment. This place is old and dirty too. The rooms are small and the TV has about 2 channels in English and the reception is awful. They also have these poor birds (6 of them) stuck in a cage in the main lobby just looking miserable like they are in jail. Is there a point to that? Does anyone want to see birds crammed in a cage? It was depressing to see these poor animals trying to flap their wings in this tiny cramped cage. No idea why they would have that there, I think in an adult only resort all adults would have by this point in their lives seen enough birds that they wouldn't need to see a bunch of them crammed in a cage. This place is old, depressing, and don't forget EXPENSIVE!!!

I was a little taken back about the age of this place. But then u c how everything blends in & its so PERFECT! Simple to get around & Great food & special touches! I would go back in a heart beat! Thanks for the Great time! See U next yr. I did complaine about the 1 hr bus ride there. But then it was worth it!

The resort is over an hour from the airport and the ride could be longer, depending on traffic. Too far for me. The food was average, Some restaurants were better than others, the French restaurante being at the bottom. Checking in and out was easy and the staff was very good all around. All in all, it is a very lovely resort.

We stayed at Excellence for 5 nights from January 3 to January 8. We selected this resort based on reviews we had read online and because it is an adult only resort. When we arrived we were warmly greeted at the front entrance, checked in, and were shown to our room. As soon as we opened the door we were hit with the strong musty smell several other reviewers have noted. When we got in we immediately opened the patio door and the main door and let fresh air through which seemed to help a lot. We had one of the dated rooms on the third floor in block 4. It was very clean, but needed some attention. The mattress was quite uncomfortable, and the pillows and bed linens were very low quality. I expected much better. There were also problems with the bathroom including low lighting levels above the sink and in the shower, and the whirlpool tub drain stopper would not seal so you could not fill the tub with water. Also, it looked like there was a shelf in the shower at one time that had broken off and was never replaced, so you were left with trying to balance soap and shampoo on the faucet handle or set it on the floor. Based on our service upon arrival, I was expecting top-notch attention during our stay. Unfortunately that was not the case. Most of the bar staff seemed pretty good, but the restaurant staff, in general, were less than average. I understand the language barrier, but it was much more than that. Several dishes that our party ordered came out wrong. Asking for a description of a menu item is useless. Our waiter at Barcelona was just rude. I was really surprised there was not a higher level of service here. There were exceptions of course and a few of the staff were great but most were not. Restaurants seemed to vary pretty widely in quality of food. Toscana for breakfast and lunch were basically what you would expect from a buffet. The juice bar was kind of fun with some unusual options. We enjoyed our dinners at Spice and Agave, but our favorite was Café Isabelle. However, we were a party of 4 and had to wait almost 2 hours for a table! We were not even seated in the restaurant, but in the courtyard. This restaurant is definitely tailored to couples. We thought the food was very good, but very slow in getting to the table. The spa is definitely a highlight of this resort. It is very clean and modern with professional staff. Do take advantage of the hydrotherapy if you have the time. The spa services were well worth the time and money. The pools were beautiful and well maintained and the swim up bar was a fun experience. The beach is also well kept and cleaned and groomed every night. There is a lot of garbage floating around in the water however. You will see a lot of it on the beach right outside the resort if you venture out. There are also persistent vendors just outside the resort property so if you don’t want to be hassled, stay on the resort beach. Because this was our first experience at an all-inclusive resort, I would probably not stay here again. I would try another resort in another location for a new experience.
