Excellence Punta Cana Luxury Adults Only - All Inclusive

This hotel seems to very old and the rooms are a bit run down. Dont count on having internet acess at this hotel. Room service on average is about a two hour wait and the order was wrong seven out of eight times we ordered. Over all i would give the food a B- and room service food a C. That staff at this hotel do an excellent job and the people in the region are some of the nicest we have ever met.

If you stay only at the hotel without going out, it's perfect. Ocean was a little bit rough, so we couldn't swim. The lagoon at the hotel was nice.

My wife and I spend 6 days in this hotel. I have to say the premises are nice, they have a nice pool, the lobby, bars and restaurants are really good, but some of them lack of air conditioning so sometimes where a little hot. We love the beach that it was the excellent part you are surrounding by a beautiful beach and palms and you can just relax. The staff was great they treat you very good and always there to help you. The bad part for us was the room is not that excellent. It was old and have a weird glass window on the bathroom that you can see your bed is just awkward. For us it was a good hotel not an excellent hotel, we might never come back

For the most part our stay was beautiful. The people were very welcoming and friendly. Our room was very nice, housekeeping does an exceptional job twice daily. We stayed for five nights. The downfall was the food. My husband and I ordered the Lobstertail at The Lobster House,it was served lathered in an overly butterd sauce and the meat itself was mushy and at room tempuature!It was to a point difficult to continue eating. The buffet food seems to sit out for long periods of time, we wanted ice cream the one night and the vanilla ice cream had turned soupy.We also ordered a T-bone steak which was on the tougher side at The Grill. The french restaurant, Chez Isabelle, was decent the chiateaubriand was most delighful. But the first night I ordered duck and it was extremely hard to cut through and hardly any flavor. My husband ordered an omelet at THe Toscona , for breakfast one morning, and it had egg shells in it. The resort is very nice, clean, and pools we very clean and well maintained. We would go back to the Dominican Republic becuase of our food experiences with the food we would not go back to The Excellence.

Staff very accomodating and room very clean.

The Excellence Punta Cana was a very beautiful hotel! I loved that they had wildlife on the property running around. Our room was clean, but we had a constant problem with mosquitos. There is a slight language barrier, so sometimes it is difficult to explain what you need, but the staff really tries hard. The staff was divided into two types. One type were the nicest people you have ever met and they were wonderful to see everyday. The other type acted like they were too good to help you and did not even bother. The beach was beautiful and clean and so were the pools. The food was OK. The spa was very nice. I high recommend taking the helicopter to the resort, it was a treat! All and all we had a great time, recommend it!

The Excellence Punta Cana was very nice, but I would not rate it 5 Star. The resort itself is beautiful and the grounds are immaculate with varieties of shrubs, trees, ponds and fountains everywhere. Our check-in was great and fast. The ride from the airport was not as rough as expected, but long since we shared a bus with people going to other resorts and ours was the last stop. Our room was well kept, but you could tell it was a refurbished room. A few areas needed to be addressed cosmetically. We were on the 3rd floor and our view was spectacular of the ocean and the wedding gazebo. There are 8 restaurants to choose from. We were not impressed with any of them except the Agave Mexican. All the food was good, but not exceptional. We only saw one of the shows in the theatre, the Michael Jackson Show, and the reason was that the lobby/theatre was open-air and was very hot and humid at night. We did enjoy the Michael Jackson Show and it was better than expected and worth the wait (l0PM). We enjoyed the nature park with Macaws, ducks, pink flamingos and turtles. There is an area to the left of the beach known as the resort Wal-mart. The prices are better there. One thing we did not like at the resort was the vendors that came in at night. They were very pushy, but they would negotiate prices if you could ignore their aggressive selling tactics. We did not spend the extra for the Excellence Club because of some previous reviews that we had read. We did find that those who did, got extra perks such as the private end of the pool and private beach. In some areas of the pool, the guests thought they owned the floats and would not share them. All in all, we had beautiful weather, no rain. The beach is beautiful, with blue water and many waves. Because of the waves and the area warnings, we could not enjoy the water sports. I would rate it a 4 and we did have a good time.

Overall ok hotel. Although, not a five star property compared to US standards. Since it is all adult, there were a lot of couples. Probably not the best place to go with your friends. I would not pay extra for an ocean view room. They provided me with an ocean front room with a view of the pool and a restaurant directly in front of it. If you went to the balcony and looked to the left, you could see a small portion of the ocean. They refused to provide any complimentary services after stating that they knew it was a bad view; but technically, It is an ocean front room. After being persistent, they moved me to a room with a better view the day before I left and the air conditioning did not work well. They tried to fix it 2 times and later told me that the air conditioning was different in different rooms. (My first room was cool!)The food was ok not outstanding. The beach and the ocean were beautiful. If you are looking for a place to go to just to relax on the beach all day, then this is the resort/place for you. Although, if I was going to spend most of the day on the beach, I would suggest paying for a less expensive all inclusive hotel. The beach is the same all over the island.

We had the resort arrange a limo to pick us up at the airport. It was a limo but it was in terrible condition. The driver played chicken with dump trucks at 80 mph simultaneously dodging large craters in the road. We did not feel safe outside the resort at all. The people there look at tourists liek vultures, won't take no for an answer when they try to help you with your bags, and are schooled in the art of the guilt trip. Bugs were a slight issue, partially resolved by a anti-insect car that would drive through the resort on a daily basis. My wife and I had several mysterious bites on our backs that were not mosquito bites, we don't know what bit us. It wasn't too bad and only happened on one occassion. Every other day the resort would let some local shop owners set up multiple tables in one of the common areas. This would have been a nice option except the shop keepers were extremely agressive. We had to avoid the entire area when they set up. The people that ran the resort were untrustworthy. There was a huge stage and it had potential except the entertainment was laughable bording on depressing. The employees at the resort were all friendly, but it didn't take away from the fact that they were friendly because they had to be and they wanted our money. If you try to eat dinner after 8, expect to wait 45 minutes. Service and food at the restaurants was inconsistent: sometimes it was exceptionally good and sometimes it was practically nonexistent. The lifeguards at the beach were a confused and pesky lot. First of all, there are signs when you walk down to the beach stating that there are no lifeguards posted on the beach. But there are, and blow their annoying whistle if you go too far, which really wasn't very far at all. And some days, they don't care how far you go. We saw some people with boogie boards and when we tried to get some we got the run-around. Still not sure what happened there. The resort supplies towels, but runs out of them quickly so make sure to bring your own. The only place you can really achieve peace and quiet is your room.

Hotel is beautiful but very far from the airport. Be prepared to spend an entire day traveling! I liked the hotel itself but the food was horrible. The only good restaurant there was the french restaurant...everything else was so-so. the waves were a bit tuff so you can't really relax and play in the water (if you're not a strong swimmer, the waves take you by surprise!). staff was good. front desk was very accomodating.
