My traveling companions all agreed that the resort has some very nice amenities like a massive pool, a first rate spa, and a ... beautifully landscaped property. The guestrooms were disappointing and best described as "tired". The air conditioning did not work well which left the room feeling warm and damp. The food was spotty. The Mexican restaurant was by far our best experience--the food was excellent, the service was excellent. Stay away from the Chinese restaurant! The food tasted prepackaged.

People are so friendly. The pool was great, it is huge and goes the length of the hotel. Buffet breakfasts were great, ... lunch was average at buffet. The fancy restaurants were great for dinner, small portions but just enough food where you wont be so stuffed. Bartenders were very friendly, the more you tipped the faster service you got. They would make your drinks as soon as they saw you coming up. The bad thing about the bars was that if you ordered someting a mai tai for example it was a little different at every bar. The rooms were a little outdated, smelled musty but I've experienced that at every hotel I've stayed in in the caribbean. Smooth check in, but about 50 minutes from airport.

The hotel has nights where people come in to sell their goods, they are very pushy, but you can negotiate with them. We were buying a 2 things and they wanted $60 for them and we got them down to $50 for 4 things and a free bracelet and necklace!

The hotel is huge, but the pool that was the main selling point happened to be 3feet deep throughout....no deep ends at all, ... and the ocean was rocky...the food well lets just say I lost 3 pounds on this vacation I have been to the DR 3 times before and loved it but if I go back its worth spending alittle more money and staying at a nicer resort.

Great pool, but that's about it!
MsMary Nov 15, 2009
Compared to other caribbean trips i've taken this was my least favorite. When we arrived at the resort after a day of ... traveling and an hour on a shuttle bus we waited in line to check in for 20 minutes to then be told we were checking in at the wrong spot... there was no sign anywhere that said preferred check-in and gave it's location, very irritating. Traveling with friends and we all had different rooms, staff was nice to rearrange us so we would all be in same building. Rooms were small compared to other comparable places i've stayed and definitely were old and needed better cleaning and upgrades. Food was probably the worst part of the trip, every night we ate at different restaurant, but food was always the same and COLD. Should have just eaten at buffet with the masses. Pool and weather were the best part. Very nice pool, with swim-up bar but drinks were either very weak, using lower proof alcohol or had no alcohol at all unless requested and this was ALL-Inclusive place. Nice to say i've been to the D.R. but would probably never return.

Nice pool, and good weather except for about 24 hours because of hurricane Ida. Rooms were small and could definitely use ... upgrades and better cleaning, small bugs in rooms and very uncomfortable bed. Staff was very nice, except sometimes language barrier made it difficult to communicate what you needed. Upgraded to the "preferred club" only about $20 extra per day and got a nice private lounge with better drinks and free internet and wifi around property-- worth it. Food made me sick almost every day, same food at french and italian restaurant... don't understand that one... Liked all- inclusives better at Occidental in Mayan Rivera and old Paradisus in Puerto Rico. Would never really want to go back to the D.R.-- once was enough.

GOOD VACATION FOR THE MONEY
CHICAGO Oct 26, 2009
WE DID TWO EXCURSIONS THAT WERE REALLY FUN. THE FIRST WAS A ZIP-LINE TOUR, IT WAS A BIT EXPENSIVE BECAUSE THE RIDE THERE AND ... BACK TOOK UP MOST OF THE FOUR HOUR TRIP, BUT IT WAS REALLY FUN. THE BEST EXCURSION WE DID WAS THE DUNE-BUGGY TOUR WHICH INCLUDED DRIVING ON DIRT ROADS,ON THE BEACH,HORSEBACK RIDING,AND SWIMMING IN A CAVE THAT WAS VERY PRISTINE. ON THE RESORT WE PRETTY MUCH SOAKED UP THE SUN AND WERE CONSTANTLY IN THE POOL BECAUSE IT WAS SO HOT DOWN THERE. THE SWIM UP BAR WAS REALLY GREAT AND THERE WERE TONS OF ACTIVITIES TO DO THERE. THE ENTERTAINMENT STAFF WERE OUTSTANDING WITH ALL THERE DANCE ROUTINES THAT THEY DO FOR THE NIGHT ENTERTAINMENT. SOME OF THE CONS WERE THE FOOD I THOUGHT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER, THERE WERE A FEW GOOD DINNER RESTAURANTS BUT THE FOOD WASN'T LIKE AT HOME. OUR ROOM WAS DIRTY THE ROOM NEEDED TO BE PAINTED, AND I BELIEVE OUR BUILDINGS ROOF NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THERE SOME WATER DAMAGE WATER SPOTS ON THE CEILING. THE OTHER PROBLEM WAS THAT THERE WAS NO WHERE TO GO OFF THE RESORT. BUT OVERALL THE VACATION WAS VERY NICE I WOULD GIVE IT A 7 OUT OF TEN.

The hotel was very nice, the staff was INCREDIBLE! The resort was beautiful, a little off the beaten path, but we felt very ... safe. The room was hit and miss as far as amenities were concerned (sometimes a washcloth, sometimes not). If you needed something, they brought it right away! Not a lot of English speaking people, but they really tried! No air conditioning which was sometimes difficult.

Dreams Punta Cana was WONDERFUL. The service was better than any other all inclusive we have stayed at in the carribean or ... in Mexico. The staff went out of there was to please you and to ensure your stay was going well. The food selection was much better than other all inclusives and we never had any issue of having to wait too long at any restaurant to be seated or served. The property was VERY clean! It was impressive to see that the staff was attentive to every detail and had plenty of maids on staff to keep the accommodations nice and clean. The Spa was nice and relaxing. The staff members were all so friendly. With the few issues we did have, they were taken care of promptly. We had requested a room with a King size bed and upon our arrival we got to our room and found two double beds. They could not get us a room with a King bed that day, but did assist in moving us to a King room the next day for the remainder of our trip. This room had a bathroom fan that did not work. Within a short amount of time, a staff member was there to repair/ replace. [...]The last negative is the rocky beach that has sea creatures living on those rocks. We ventured out in the surf one day just to find ourselves within minutes back on shore with remnants of sea orchin spines and other debris to pick out of our feet. We never ventured back into the ocean after this experience. Since we had looked forward to swimmming in the ocean and snorkeling at the hotel, this put a damper in our trip. My advice: bring water shoes if you go in the ocean! All in all a wonderful hotel, good food and a staff that went above and beyond. Even with the negatives, I would still go back.

Where do I start... The food was so bad... I have been to so many hotels and have never encountered such nasty food. I went ... for a wedding and we ate ate at the Mexican restaurant for a rehearsal dinner.. oh boy was I two steps from throwing up at the table! The Japaneses food made half if not most became violently ill! My husband was within the people who became ill and I needed some Gatoraid does that sound like an extreme request... Well apparently they felt it was and told me that I had to go to the main shop which is not associated with the hotel(?) hmmmm usually I would just go get it but.. my husband had a high fever and just not well.. AND I had to walk 20 min to the main lobby! The room was located to steps from the beach and pool.. but a world away for everything else! (20 min) THE ROOM KEY FROM HE!! 1st time it was during the day so no prob I go get it fixed... 2nd time..So the room key stops working again.. Okay it happens but the lobby is a world away but hey I walk threw.. I wait at the desk for 30 min before I can get help. They fixed the key..I go to the room.. guess what the key is still not working! I called them up from the hallway the desk tells me well you have to come back up here because I need to verify who you are.. HELLO I was just at the desk.. So finally after begging yes I said begging.. they said they would send someone.. we waited and waited and waited.. I stopped a man that worked there that happened to be a security guard he allowed us in to the room. The key person came an hour latter. Room service gone wrong.. So room service is 24 hours.. YAY...Aaaa no they only have 5 items on the menau and you have to wait up to 3 hours for it to come to your room! To top everything off they forced me to complete a survey and said that it was mandatory for check out are you kidding me. Good attentive staff. minus the front desk and customer service were awesome. Someone could not pay me to go there again!

The activities at the hotel were excellent, we didn't even leave the resort. My only complaint with our room was the air ... conditioning, it wasn't up to par and couldn't keep up with the humidity. Everything else was excellent. The resort is nearly and hour from the airport on rough roads but once you're there it is excellent.

Lazy Daisy Oct 12, 2009
This was a great vacation to de-stress and do nothing which was by choice! We had the best massage we've had but would not ... recommend the pedicure. I highly recommend the massage with the hour use of the facilities for whirlpool, ice pool, four different showers plus the dry and steam saunas. The beach was not the greatest feature if you wanted to walk in the water due to the rocks and the water was not clear for snorkeling. Beautiful to look at! The pool more than made up for not getting in the salt water! Plenty of both sun and shade spots with recliners on the beach and by the pool. Engergetic and entertaining staff! (None in our group of four even read the books we brought for vacation reading!) Great relaxing vacation for us!

Service is nice. rooms are very clean but old. toilet was getting clogged every time of use. Light block outs happened at ... night about 3 times....so no air conditining in the room when its about 90 degrees outside. Workers were polite and very helpful. Food was ok. Beach is very nice....and pool is huge and nice. over all we had great time over there. i might never go back just because i do change up places all the time. I would recommend going only after u speak with hotel people and see if they electricity problems were solved. My friend had wedding over there and we were with out light for 1 hour waiting for music to go on, food to be cooked. night life was great! shows were excelent! good entertainment.

The Dreams Punta Cana was absolutely beautiful! It is very well maintained and cared for and all the staff members are super ... friendly and gracious. They would all do anything in their power to make your stay the best it can be and go above and beyond. We took two off site excursions, which we set up while at the hotel. One was to tour the cocoa field, sugar cane fields, a cigar factory, a typical school and typical home. We also went to a little bodega shop, a river and the beach. It gave us an opportunity to see a lot of the Dominican Republic that we would not get to see inside the resort. The other was a snorkeling trip where we got to swim with sharks and rays. It was also very entertaining and a great way to see the ocean and scenery. Back at the hotel, the food and restaraunts were all very delicious, and because you don't have to make reservations it gives you an opportunity to play everything by ear and just relax on your vacation. There wasn't a meal we didn't enjoy! The only things that we saw for improvement were that the air conditioning in our room didn't get very cold. Also, our mini-fridge didn't get very cold either, but that seemed to be pretty common among the people we talked to. Other than that, everything was amazing!! We would go back in a heartbeat!!! The people are so friendly, the weather is beautiful, and everyone you look at has a smile on their face!!!

Wonderful Experience
I&J Oct 8, 2009
The staff were absolutely wonderful. People were warm, welcoming, friendly and helpful. The hotel grounds were beautiful. We ... loved the wonderful meals - wide variety to choose from - the food was prepared fresh, and was delicious and plentiful. The swimming pool was great. The entertainment was fun.The beach was beautiful. On the down side, the weather was very hot and humid - all of our clothes and luggage developed a musty/moldy odor. The hotel did not offer self-serve laundry facilities. The quality of the room where we stayed was a little less than we expected - a bit run down - the fan in the bathroom didn't work (we asked to have it repaired three times while we were there and it never got done). The sink in the bathroom didn't drain properly and backed up with water every time it was used. There was mold in the bathroom, and overall attention to detail was lacking. The room had an adjoining door and the people next-door smoked in their room (although we were told that the rooms were non-smoking) and the smoke came into our room. They did offer to move us, but the two other rooms we looked at did not work - one was so moldy we couldn't enter, and the other was next to the stair-well, so the sounds from people going up and down the stairs would have been disturbing. So we decided to stick it out in the room we had, and make the best of it.We were there to attend a conference - the room where the conference was held was dark, hot (the air conditioning didn't work properly), and moldy. We also weren't prepared for the inability to easily make phone calls to home. Our cell phone did not work there - nor did our U.S. calling cards - and the hotel charged $3.00 per minute to call out. The hotel also charged for Internet use - $4.00 for 15 minutes. We are used to staying at hotels that offer complementary computer use. Mosquitos were also an issue - we got many mosquito bites - the staff went around the hotel grounds each evening, fumigating - I am sensitive to chemicals and had to try to avoid breathing the fumigants. If I would have known about many of these issues (especially the chemical/ fumigant use) I probably wouldn't have gone. However, with that said, I am glad I went and do have many fond memories of our trip.

Happy Honeymooner Oct 6, 2009
I went to Dreams Punta Cana for my honeymoon. This place is wonderful. Beautiful views, friendly staff and a peaceful ... atmosphere. This place is perfect for honeymooners or couples looking for a little romance. They have beds on the beach where you can snuggle up together and they offer many romantic activities, such as a private dinner on the beach. It also looked fun for families. They have an explorers club for kids to play in. The entertainment staff is always trying to get people involved in the countless activities that are available. The staff is so friendly, everyone you pass will give you a smile and an "Hola!" to greet you. This place isn't brand new, and you can see the wear here and there, but it is dutifully kept and is a beautiful place. Overall we had a wonderful stay and I would recommend this hotel to others looking for a great vacation.

The name of the game here is "It's a Pleasure!" I have never been so relaxed and seen a group of people serve with a smile ... so genuinely. This is a beautiful resort with people who make the experience. The pool and beach are outstanding. The food was better than I have ever had in an all inclusive experience. Easily put, I came to Punta Cana after going to a quite a few all inclusive resports and different desinations. The only reason we chose this one was a co-workers recommendation and a location that my fiance and I had never been to before. Our expectations were extremely low, and we have already planned to return next year.

Try to get room in the middle buildings. That would be buildings 2,3,7 and 8. That way you are in the middle of everything and can save some time walking. If you are in building 1 like I was, you would spend 20 minutes in walking time to get from the room, to the lobby for breakfast and back down to the beach. And thats a brisk walk. I had a grandmother there that never stopped complaining because she couldn't make it to anything walking.

Stay in room in the middle of hotel. The resort is very long (distance from one end to the other) so by staying in the middle you are closer to each end of it.Beach and restauarts on my end and main building with restauarts on the other end.

Of the places we ate I think that Oceana is the best restaurant in the whole resort.

If you enjoy dancing (and very loud music) you will enjoy this experience.

The only shopping available is the gift shop in the hotel. Nothing that we saw was in walking distance. When we went snorkeling the driver offered to stop at a shopping area, but we passed. Also, they allow vendors in the resort in one area three days a week from 5:30 - 9:30 PM to expose you to local flare.

The Japanese restaurant was amazing, everyone really should try it.

To/From the hotel: Book your transportation to the hotel with Coco Tours. It's a good 1 hour and 20 minute ride to the hotel from the Punta Cana Airport. A taxi will charge you $70 one way. Coco Tours will charge you $99 round trip for 2 people. Much better deal.

The food was pretty good! I was surprised how terrible the Seafood restaurant was on an island.
