pay the preferred club rate

I was traveling with my husband, two daughters and their friend. We had reservations for two adjoining rooms.Upon arrival we were told we did not have rooms and would have to pay 150.00$ per night for the preferred club, because we arrived 24 hrs after our original time of arrival. This is despite calling and changing our arrival time [...]I gave him ([...]) my credit card and after he charged it he told me the 150.00 per night was for only one room. The total was going to be 300.00 more per night. At this point I told him it was unacceptable. And like magic they found two adjoining rooms. When we got to our rooms. The smell was over whelming of mold. The king size room had no bathroom door and the aircond did not work. There is an employee guard shack out side our door walls that positioned the attendant to look directly in our rooms 24/7 (appox 15 ft away). By the next day we had discovered the iron did not work the coffee pot did not work the toilet paper holder was broken off the wall and you need to put a towel under the door at night or very large palmetto bugs crawl in. We did complain once to [...]and nothing was done. We complained to someone else and I am sorry I do not know his name, second night and the air cond.and room key system were fixed. On the positive side. The pool and restaurant staff was wonderful and attentive. The food in the restaurants was wonderful. We went snorkeling though the hotel service in open water for 30$/person and enjoyed it! The tip to put bread from the beach BBQ in water bottles was great! The fish are all over it!If the rooms were acceptable and [...]had not been so rude and lied several times, the resort would have been 4 stars. (our rooms 9120and9119) Oh ya...not that it mattered but no robes, slippers or ipod docking station, in either room.

It's all what you make it i guess

The staff on the resort could have been a little more professional and helpful. Other than that the resort was nice it was the staff that was the problem. The rooms did smell like mildew for some reason and did not match the illustration on the website this problem caused a very uncomfortable stay in the room. Housekeeping was not up to par with the upkeep of the room and it resulted to a lot of conflict with the staff (very unprofessional). The restaurants were pretty good but due to the lack of knowledge on the dress code we were unable to benefit from them (bring plenty of pants or slacks if not you will be disappointed and turned away). The language barrier was strong and hard to communicate, sometimes it seems as though they use it to their benefit. On a positive note i can say that i will take into consideration the reviews next go round cause after reading and experiencing these issues for myself they would have come in handy. Overall, the actual resort was pretty nice plenty of activities for kids and adults. It was unfortunate that the staff could not compliment the outer perimeters. All in all, we took advantage of what we were given and made something out of it, like they say one monkey doesn't stop a show. If you can or have time, sign up for the Funny Monster tour it's a tour to remember and you will see majority of Punta Cana and the outskirts.

Not all that, McDonnalds in PC

Made a mistake for what we wanted. It was all american resort, couples and older folks. If you like that and are with kids, this is a great place. But if you wan to have the DR experiance, not the place for it. The serve Burgers and HotDogs on the beach!!!

Nothing like expected

Room was not cleaned daily and the mini fridge was never checked. I had to complain to the front desk after telling housekeeping to clean room and fill the fridge and it was still not done. Room didn't have a bathroom door, didn't have a room service book, or an alarm clock. (We were on vacation so wasn't too worried about the clock.) We had friends staying in a room down the hall and they had all these things. They also had problems with housekeeping aswell. Wait staff was excellent there was always someone walking by taking drink orders and returning in a timely manner. Food was not as good as I hoped. No chocolate ice cream... anywhere on the resort...... only one restaurant to eat dinner without having to dress up and that was the buffet. Each of the other restaurants I thought could have offered more on the menus. I would not return nor recommend.

will not return

This was not a vacation, our daughter got sick and we had to fly there. Our daughter ended up getting flown to the US and we had to leave hotel yet they wouldn't refund us the hotel even under the circumstances. Many of staff didn't speak English well. Maybe due to the circumstances I don't have anything good to say. The food was not very good although sea side grill was the best. The preferred Club was useless as far as I'm concerned. No adult pool (not that I used it as I wasnt there on vacation)

Dreams was a nightmare

When we arrived we were told to wait 30 minutes before our room would be ready, well that became 2 hours. We had our 19 month old son, and my 80 year old Dad, so we were not very happy to wait 2 hours for a room. Our room was fine, however my parents' room did not have a t.v., had a broken lamp, among other things. It took them an hour to locate a new room for them. The food and entertainment was mediocre at best. The hotel policy is not to reserve beach/pool chairs but everyone does, and everyday someone would move our stuff! The guests were rude, and classless. The best part of the resort is the coffee shop, I will not recommend this resort to anyone! We have been to many AI, and loved them, such as Couples Swept Away in Jamaica, RIU Palace in Mexico, but Dreams was by far the worst. Be prepared to wait hours for dinner, since they don't take reservations. Be aware of the shady casino, one night my husband kept winning at the table game, the next night he went back and did not hit not once, and he was betting non-stop. It happened to other guests as well. Do NOT waste your money at the Spa, it was by far the worst service ever. I can go on and on, but I feel I've said enough!

The Good and Bad

Check-in was quick and we were greeted with Mimosas and lemony-scented cool washcloths. We should have held onto those washcloths as they were some of the very few we got the entire seven days. The location is super. Grounds and beach are beautiful and well maintained. Pools are fabulous; however, the staff allows guests to throw a towel on lounge chairs early in the morning to save them for as long as they wish. The resort states the staff will remove items on unused chairs after 20 minutes but they never did this. In one instance we noticed nearby lounge chairs saved for seven hours with guests not showing up to use them. Feel free to remove those towels and use the chairs yourself. We did. Seaside Grill and Himitsu are excellent. El Patio and Portofino are fairly good and although Bordeaux is fairly good it took almost two hours to eat. There is plenty to be found at the World Cafe Buffet. Drinks are good. Only had bar service at the beach three times in seven days. Had to walk back to pool bar to get them remainder of time. Rooms are spacious. We hung a Damp Rid bag and it accumulated a half bag of water in seven days. Air conditioning is not reliable. During the night it became extremely hot in the room. Did not encounter any mosquitoes in the room and only a few on the beach after dark. The showers are strange with no door or curtain but pick up an extra beach towel and put on the floor to soak up the water. Bathroom sinks are the bowls on top the counter and are quite worthless for anything but washing your hands. The faucet extends so far you cannot get close enough to wash your face. They do not have drain plugs -- we asked. Housekeeping is one huge issue at this resort. Our room was not cleaned until 3:30 to 4:30 each day and we almost always had to chase down someone to get towels and washcloths so we could take showers. We had to specifically ask for tissues, shower gel, and shampoo. It was challenging as the housekeepers do not speak English. Entertainment is poor. The theater is a big room with a stage and plastic straight-back outdoor chairs. The romantic bonfire on the beach one night was nice. The casino has 22 slot machines and several tables. On two nights local vendors brought their wares on the property and hounded you as you tried to pass. We encountered some great service and some that bordered on rude. Front desk personnel are generally not friendly. Concierge was great and attempted to take care of our issues. Bartenders and waiters are great. We received a call the night before our departure to ask what time we would like a bellman to pick up our luggage. Nice gesture, but unfortunately he did not show at all and we had to lug the bags down three flights of stairs (no elevators here). That sure left a bad last impression. Overall the trip was good. The beach is superb and food and drinks plentiful. Unfortunately the service at this resort is not up to standard. If I were to return to Punta Cana I would definitely not stay at Dreams Palm Beach.

Good for families

The lobby was beautiful And very clean. Some of the front desk staff was unprofessional. We had reserved 2 rooms and they were not ready until 6 pm. I had to call them three times for them to finally bring my bags up. Took over one hour. The bell hop and front desk had poor communication. As I came to unpack my suitcase, there was a roach in the drawer. The beds squeaked and the sheets were very old and worn. Pillows felt like they were stuffed with socks. Shower had no pressure and no door. Some one knocked on our door at 4:30 am. Somehow, they thought we had requested a wake up call. It was very frustrating to communicate with front desk, concierge and room service staff. Entertainment team tried very hard. Food was good-- not great. Kids had lots of fun and loved every minute.
