Great anniversary vocation

This resort was something else!!!Very friendly helpful staff( they can hardly speak English though, but my bf speaks Spanish lil bit so it wasn't a big deal). They change towels 2 a day ,offering drinks at the pool or beach every 5 minutes and it seems like they don't even care if u tipping them or not, they r the same friedly and nice! The buildings r lil bit old,but they renovate and redesigne rooms(they really big enough for a couple)Food is ok,there was our favourite buffet and sea blue restaurant( or smth like that ,didn't remember the name)those two r really great:)we didn't go to Mexican or Steak House( maybe they r good as well)Japanese and Italian are average restaurantswith poor menu. But other then that food was good!If u don't want to wake up early for breakfast( it's only from 7-10 am) u may order it to your room( for no charge) or go to the snack bar.Get some singles befor u go there for tips they deserve them!the only thing we didn't like is that all the jakuzzis were cold:(( and those annoying venders next to the restaurants in the evening, they were really pushy.Everything else was absolutly great!

Gorgeous Hotel TERRIBLE service

I took my family there and was very embraced. I have never wrote a bad review, but the service of this hotel made me do so. I was surprised how mean and not helpful was the stuff, everything was a problem, just like pulling teeth. Gorgeous resort though, very nice rooms, comfortable chairs, but WORST SERVICE EVER. It's even funny that they didn't want to change me $20 in singles so I can leave TIP for THEM. It's suppose to be all inclusive resort and when my husband in the Italian restaurant wanted to order extra appetizer, they didn't let him (one per person), consider that my mom didn't have any. I called the manager/waiter (I guess they are really trying to save some cash) he was really rude. My parents room wasn't cleaned until 6pm. They make absolutely no effort to make you happy or help you. they even make the face that they doing you a favor, No smile what so ever even if you leave tip. I just can't explain it, towels weren't changed, people in the stores are extremely mean if you are not Spanish. they never have change. If you are going with the large group and don't care a thing for the service this is the place for you. Food is good, but restaurant's don't have A/C, so get ready to sweat, cooks talking on the phone while cooking(in Japanese restaurant). Main buffet has large selection, but taste terrible. I would never go back there. You better go elsewhere. Service seriously turned us completely off :( We complained to the manager, absolutely nothing changed. :( Last time we went to Dreams palm beach Punta cana, service was outstanding. would rather go back there (though the beach chairs are not the most comfortable).

Catalonia Royal Bavaro

The Royal side of the Catalonia Bavaro was great, nice pools, awesome deluxe suit, good food, felt like royalty with my silver bracelet that got us into all the restaurants in both resorts without any wait. The specialty restaurants on the Bavaro side were good, we tried the Italian, Japanese and the Steak House twice, but we did not like any of the buffets and always ended up going back to the Royal side for breakfast and lunch. The thing that ruined our whole trip was we forgot a bag on the Coco Tour bus that brought us to the hotel ( the tour group [...] uses in Punta Cana) our concierge helped us call our representative, [...] immediately, who supposedly called the driver but the bag was no where to be found. There was only one other couple on the bus and they came from our same flight and I doubt they took it. We lost our cameras, I-touch, cell phone charger, tip money, dive cards and the keys to our car for when we got home. The Coco tour representative was only on the other side of our resort for 1 1/2 hours early in the morning, was late the morning we had scheduled to meet with him the day after we arrived and didn't show the morning we were supposed to schedule our return ride to the airport. Luckily there are a lot of other very nice people in the Dominican and someone helped us from another travel company. The bus was also late picking us up to take us back to the airport and dropped us off at the wrong terminal. So over all the resort was great but the company that Orbitz chooses to do business with is unreliable and shady. I would not use orbitz again to go to Punta Cana. This was our 3rd trip to that area, and have never had any problems when we booked through different travel agencies.

A Piece of Heaven

The hotel is adult only, very relaxing and very tranquil. We stayed at the beach most of the day and meet friends we had met on our vacation at the pool bar every afternoon. The rooms are very neat and clean and the staff does a wonderful job with cleaning the rooms. The pools were always very clean and refreshing considering the sun is so hot! [...] at the pool bar is great, very upbeat and always singing! We never had a problem finding chairs on the beach and usually went to the beach between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. The staff was always down at the beach raking up the seaweed that washed ashore, which was never a real issue. At night we would go to the piano bar and watch a little baseball and again meet up with friends after dinner. We went to one show at the sister property but were mostly too tired after a day in the hot sun to venture out much past 10:00 p.m.We took out a canoe one day and paddled along the shoreline for quite a distance, which was a beautiful trip along the beach. My husband and I also walked over an hour one way a couple of days - there are no hotels within miles of these two properties and nothing but unspoiled beach!!Wonderful, wonderful vacation and we were very sad to leave but will surely be back!!

Most of the restaurants were are the sister property, Catalonia Bavaro - the Japanese restaurant was very good! The tapas restaurant at Catalonia Royal was also delicious, actually all the restaurants were very good, I would not say above average, but all were good!

Great time

Great trip - all the staff were really nice and helpful - expecially Armstrong at the pool rest and Carlos at the swin up bar!!! Rooms are really nice. Food was good - could have been better but always found something i liked. Drinks are NEVER watered down. It was nice to have no kids on this side of the resort but still have access to all the restuarants and pools on the other side. Our room was a little musty and we mentioned it in a survey they asked us to do - next morning we woke up and there was a dehumidifier - GREAT SERVICE. Couldn't ask for a better vacation. Beach and pools were always nice and clean.

Good Experiencie

My husband and I spent a good time in this hotel. In my opinion I did not like the soda that put in the drinks, this soda is the machine and the drinks dont have the same flavor with a machine soda.

Fantastic for couple

The hotel is beautiful as the photos found on the Internet. The staff is friendly, the treatment is excellent. The atmosphere is quiet, if you want more music and shows you can go to the hotel next door. The hotel rooms are very nice, clean, well decorated. The food is excellent and varied. In general I recommend and hope to return soon

Beautiful Beach

This was the most relaxing vacation. The beach was wonderful-warm waters, white sand, plenty of chairs, excellent service. One day the chef prepared paella over a wood fire-on the beach! Amazing and delicious. The room was spotless, the grounds were well manicured, cleanliness was the order of the day! Great water pressure in the shower, plenty of towels, robes, and of course, clean. We ate at the Tapas, Steak and Japanese restaurants. The beachfront restaurant serves the best calamari and California rolls-delicious. I will say the Steak rest. does a unique "Maryland" crab cake- well, let's just say it was like a sheet cake, made with potatoes, served cold. But the steak, to die for. And, let's not forget, I had paella and sangria on the beach!! I can't say enough about the wonderful staff. My Spanish is limited, can you say ola and adios, but I was able to communicate without a problem. Thankfully, their English is better than my Spanish. But let me add- Kindness and courtesy are universal, pack them in your carry-on luggage, that way these items don't get lost en route and they are with you for the duration.(Also, if plan on golfing, pack plenty of balls, cost $20.00/3 balls)

Time-saving tip: Not Applicable

On your return flight, get to the airport a minimum of four hours before your flight. The service is extremely slow, and if you couple that with the large number of families/groups in line with ten or more pieces of bulging luggage, doing the luggage shuffle (removing items to meet the 50lb limit)-you will feel like you are never going to make it out of the line. If you get to the airport three hours early, thinking you'll have time to pick up that Presidente t-shirt and a bottle of Dominican rum at the the duty free- Forget it, ain't gonna happen! You'll be lucky to make your flight. And if you think making it out the line is getting over the hump, think again. Once you go through Customs and stand behind people still filling out the form, you get the gate. Now, you must walk (outside on the tarmac) what seems like a mile(sweating like a pig)to your plane, where, once again, your boarding pass and passport are re-checked. Now success! No, wait, the plane is only half full, and you must now sit(in A/C(!)and wait for the other passengers that are really humping trying to make their flight, because they got to airport two hours before their flight. Arriving at the airport two hours before your flight could result in mucho frustration(aka-MELTDOWN) and a missed flight.
