Lovely Beach

Would recommend Thu, Aug 7, 2008
The Barcelo Punta Cana was nice and a good value for the money. The staff at the guest services desk were very attentive and helpful when checking in and out of the hotel and also very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and best places for tourists to visit. A++++ Service! The rooms are okay and could use a little maintenance, but the balconies are a nice touch and provide an okay view of the ocean. The beach is a must see and was very beautiful to walk along and very relaxing. The resort offers many activities for both children and adults, day and night, so you won't be bored. The location of the resort is far from the city, but we traveled to Higuey and I highly recommend taking a trip there to explore the everyday life in the DR. This was my second time to the DR and I can't wait to visit again, it's such a beautiful place!!!!

Beautiful but poor substandard service

Would not recommend Thu, Aug 7, 2008
beach, property & pool were stunningly beautiful. Check in was a nightmare, not only for myself but other guests commented as well that none of the rooms were ready for 4pm check in. we were kept waiting til 8pm and although the room was cleaned the dirty bed sheets were still in a pile on out bed. They kept telling us 20 more minutes since 3pm when i arrived. hours later and the room still wasn't ready to sllep in. they didn't give u fresh towls unless u asked. The food at the buffet was HORRIBLE and i am not a high maintence type of person. 3 people i met got sick at the steak and seafood resuarant was actually scared to eat at the buffet. the mexina restaurant, italian & japanaese restaurants had good food but the biggest complaint heard amongst other guests is there was no air conditioning in any othe restaurants (except the mexican restaurrant0 people felt like they were going to pass out from heat exhaustion. They called this a premium hotel theere was nothing other than the view that was premium about it.

No beach towels

Would recommend Fri, Aug 1, 2008
The resort is amazing and the beach is to die for! One of the problems that I had was trying to get beach towels. This hotel doesn't have enough beach towels for the entire hotel. So word of advice... bring your own. Staff at reception when we first checked-in looked like they didn't know what they were doing. Overall, we had a wonderful time its a beautiful country, with awesome people!

Nightlife hint

We went to a club called Mangu. Had a blast, danced all night!

Good value hotel

Would not recommend Mon, Jul 28, 2008
The older rooms desperately need new beds. Mattresses are very old and lumpy making for restless sleeping. Air conditioning functions poorly and rooms are not always very cool. Rooms are clean; however, linen service was always provided late in the day. Clean towels were never delivered until early evening and after we had gone out for dinner. Specialty restaurants offer very nice meals, but it is very difficult to get reservations for them. This should be done immedaitely upon checkin.

AGreat Getaway

Would recommend Mon, Jul 28, 2008
The hotel staf was great . Howeverthe bartenders and the waiters and waitresses need to focus on asking you what you want to drink instead of waiting for you to get up so they can cleant the table off. This was the buffett room. The bar closest to the desk took their time when preparing a drink order. other than than that I had a ggod time.

You must go on the Bavaro Aquatic and Splash Tour its awesome. You get to drive powerboats on the sea and snorkle!

Really Great Time/Value!!

Would recommend Sat, Jul 26, 2008
Was the place perfect?? Not at all. The service was mediocre at best, the water pressure was slightly more then a trickle, the food was often not so great and exceptional only once and getting a beach towel was next to impossible. However, when you put that in the context of what you are paying, it is an incredible value. I am not going to ramble on about amenities because I am sure you have read them elsewhere and in other reviews. Briefly, the hotel was beautiful and well maintained. I heard from some other guests that their rooms were sub par. Ours was beautiful complete with slate tile shower with glass wall, wood beam cathedral ceiling, marble topped dressers and a plasma TV. The refridgerator was stocked daily with beer, soda and bottled water, all included in the ridiculously low price that we paid. It was also clean and well cared for by our chamber maid. The buffet was just okay. The lines for omlets and specialty pastas were too long and the wait staff was less then efficient. It was fairly easy to get a drink at the numerous bars as well as in the swim up bar. The specialty restaurants were also nothing to write home about with the exception of Tokio, the Japanese one which I thought was great. Word to the wise: Don't bother waiting on the long line in the morning to reserve a table in one of the specialty restaurants. Just go to the one of your choosing during dinner hour and ask them if they have room. Most times you can come back in 1/2 to an hour and they will accomodate you. But for value and bang for the buck it really can't be beat. We had a great time and I would recommend it to a friend in a minute. matter of fact, I told my sister that she and her husband should take their three kids there next summer. The mini kids' water park and the kids' club looked great. Hell, I might even join them.

Best family vacation ever!!

Would recommend Wed, Jul 2, 2008
I could have stayed forever, I will go back again! Make sure you upgrade to a suite, that gives you VIP (worth every dime). They make your dinner reservations at all of their restraunts, and if you don't feel like going out of your room...the ladies from Club Premium will get it sent up for you. If you tip, you will be suprised at how much more attention you get. Stay out of the casino it is the biggest scam and has no regulations, it is also a seperate entity than the resort. The night club there is awful, the waitstaff is rude and 90% locals. The beaches here are amazing, plenty of chairs for everybody. We went on tours offered by the hotel that were A++. Marinarium was a snorkeling cruise, swimming with the sharks and sting rays. The crew was full of energy. Horseback riding at the resort was fun and very inexpensive $35USD an hour and we rode on the beach. Jurassic adventure takes you through the city of Macou and to caves for swimming. If you want a great vacation for the $$$ this is it and have fun!!!

Shopping hint

Went shopping in Higuay, much more for your money than shopping at the hotel. On Saturdays they have vendors come in but I must warn you they are very, very aggressive.

wonderful place

Would recommend Sat, Jun 14, 2008
The grounds were excellent. Beautiful beach and pool areas which is what we wanted. The room was comfortable and the maid service excellent. The majority of our meals were from the extensive buffet...we were only able to dine in the evening at 3 of the restaurants as they filled up quickly which was a bit disappointing as we stayed 9 nights but as I stated, the buffet has everything one could want and the quality was as good as the specialty restaurants. As for the drinks we found a small tip when ordering will get you premium brands rather than the cheaper rums, vodka's etc. Try the sports bar in the evening, Jose will make you some intersting concoctions.
