Great Experience & Amazing Location!

Just got back last night (09/12/09) from a week's vacation at the Barcelo Punta Cana Premium Hotel with my Mom and loved every minute of it! This was our first visit going on an All-Inclusive vacation, as well as to the Dominican Republic and any Barcelo Hotel and Resort. In a sentence, it was one of the BEST vacations and locations we've had to date! *CHECKING IN was a smooth and quick process. Consistent with some of the other reviews, we got passes to three of the ~7 specialty restaurants available (excluding the Alcazar which didn't require a reservation). *The FRONT DESK Staff, most of whom were very friendly, were very willing to make the requested changes of one of the restaurants, even accommodating us with our preference (El Conuco--Dominican food which was very tasty, with a very nice ambiance!), despite not always being available. Exceptionally pleasant, always smiling, and very informative were [...] and [...] who would always provide us with the necessary information to ensure that all our questions were answered. In addition, all the Front Desk Staff we came across were well-versed in English, and able to clearly communicate with monolingual English-speakers, or those who spoke "broken Spanish."*TIP: If you're flexible with the desired days and times to be scheduled, then you're much likely to be rescheduled much sooner than the long waits already mentioned by other reviewers. However, we learned that it is important to keep your appointment time (or as close to it as possible), or you might be turned away as some restaurants are very popular. *We had a great ROOM on the 3rd floor (2 double beds) with the balcony overlooking an amazing 180 degree view of the pool (and the adjacent activity areas--e.g., Trapezee, Kid's pool, etc.) and the gorgeous blue/turquoise/teal ocean waters! I can't say enough about the spectacular views! *TIP: It's worth paying a little more for a room with such a view when first making the reservations! In addition, the room was very nice and clean, and kept COOL (air conditioner) on a daily basis: marble floors, fridge (re)filled with sodas, El Presidente beer, and water, coffee maker with coffee and tea bags provided, on a daily basis, and if there was anything that had not been replenished, all it took was leaving a note (in English and/or Spanish) for Housekeeping, and it was taken care of upon their next visit, on the same day!*The ALCAZAR Restaurant was the default restaurant with a buffet ("all-you-can-eat") setup for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (and didn't require a reservation, as with the other restaurants). Although there is an assortment of choices of food, it is true that some of the selections at lunch would also be present at dinner. Nonetheless, it's enough of a variety to accommodate all types of palates. In addition, there were also specific Stations/Corners for: Eggs in the Morning, and Pasta, Meat, and Seafood for Lunch and Dinner where there were Chefs available at each station to provide you the specific dish(es) of choice. The fruits (particularly the pineapples, mangos, watermelons, and cantaloupes) were always juicy, well-ripened, and just rightly sweetened! The Staff at the Alcazar were very pleasant (as well), and frequently hovering around to ensure that tables are cleared, etc. Most accommodating were [...], [...], and [...] who were incredibly attentive and consistently pleasant and engaging no matter what shift we saw them (and they literally worked EVERY shift: breakfast, lunch and dinner, for all the days we were present)! *The CASINO is VERY small, and simply put, leaves a lot to be desired! But as stated by another reviewer, the purpose of the trip was not the Casino. For that, one knows to go to (Las) Vegas (or Atlantic City, etc.)! *The VENDORS that come to the hotel several days a week are very similar to those vendors found in most market places: they'll try to sell you "anything" (particularly with jewelry), and are ...

Really loved the resort. Would stay aga

The resort was great. The staff was fantastic. Our luggage had been lost and the hotel hospitality staff really came through and were able to get our luggage to us as soon as they could. Would recommend this resort to everyone.

Great Trip!!

The Barcelo Punta Cana far exceeded my expectations. The staff is just awesome. THe entertainment staff was great, Carlos in particular went out of his way to please us. It was a clean hotel with lots of excitement. My 19 year old had a great time. The shows are great! highly recommend the Michael Jackson show. Karaoke in the lobby was so much fun. The food was good. I have had better at the Riu plaza macao in Punta Cana, but the food here was plentlyful and good. We enjoyed the pizza above the marlins for lunch. Made from a stone oven. The Japanese restaurant was the best, the Italian was also very good. I didn't like the Dominican as much. The rooms were beautiful if you happened to luck out or pay for a renovated room. The older part of the hotel is not as nice. Our room was 2112 in building 2 and it was just beautiful overlooking the pool and in the distance you could see the ocean. The best part of this hotel was how safe I felt. I never heard one person complain about anything being stolen. Security is everywhere all day long and night. Don't hesitate to book this hotel you will love it. Just make sure you book in the renovated part of the hotel. Enjoy your trip!!

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

There is a flea market right at the end of the street. Called the Barcelo flea market right next to the majestic hotel on the road side not the beach side. We paid $5. by cab. Friends walked and it took them 15 minutes. Its much cheaper then the venders in the hotel. Just remember this, I wanted 7 necklaces they asked for $240 American in the hotel. I bargained and got them for $100. american. At the flea market the same necklaces would have cost me $35.00.

Recommended break time

ate plentiful, rest quietly. Did not like the fact of some people being topless and not have for them a sign area.

Loved this resort!!

This hotel is great. It is very big and has a huge and beautiful beach. The food is excellent and you have many choices of restaurants to dine "a la carta". The swimming pools are very clean and the staff keeps things very presentable. Even though we booked the cheapest room possible, it was clean and comfortable. The drinks were very good and the staff was very pleasant. The only negative things that we can comment on is to expect to wait in line for the check in and check out times, and the Wifi connection is very bad and expensive. Other than that, if you can book this hotel for cheap through [...], go for it. We had a wonderful 9 days vacation there!

Huge theatreñ live show at night...

Quick gateway- Loyal guest

We have stayed at Barcelo since 2009 and we love it. We always get excellent service. The staff is absolutely the best, they always find the way to help you and make your stay very special. This time around my only issue was the speciality restaurant (French) looks like it was under staff and food was not good at all but there is always a buffet :). We are going back in May with the kids this time. Should be an awesome time.
