Barcelo Bavaro Beach - Adults Only - All Inclusive

The food was pleasantly better than many of the other reviews stated and we are foodies. Do not spend the extra money to eat at the Kyoto Japanese restaurant. They did a very poor job. The Chez Gourmet restaurant was excellent. The red and white house wines are so very bad. Bring your own from the duty free shop at the airport before you board the plane. The beach is perfect. The staff were all pleasant although communication was difficult on a few occasions. Take a taxi to and from the airport for just slightly more than any other ground transportation. It will be well worth the aggravation that you will get from the other ground transportation companies. All-in-all, it was a very nice place to relax and take the sun and surf in.

Had a wonderful time on our trip. The good: Very nice hotel, good quality food in the restraints, huge complex and tons to do, great for both Kids and Adults, very clean, best beat I have ever seen The Bad: Language barrier - the staff does not speak English at all and sometimes are unable to communicate well as a result, the food at the buffet is terrible.

Great times, awesome hotel inside and out. Recommend the adult only if you don't take the kids. Beaches were amazing with smooth sand to walk on, no rocks. and no mosquitos.

Everyting was good eccept the roads and the trafficsigns outside in the country ! The restaurants, the poolarea, the beach, the room etc was very good.

The only negative was the language barrier. I would suggest you learn some spanish. Its helps alot!

The staff is NOT at all friendly. The service at the Buffet restaurants was the worst. You have to flag down someone to bring you water; otherwise the servers will just walk by and ignore you. And if they do happen to look in your direction, you won’t even get so much as a smile. Although check in time is at 3pm and we arrived around 3:30pm our room was still NOT ready. We did not get our room until after 6:30pm. During the wait all the reception staff kept telling us is that it would only be 15 more minutes. That night at dinner I bit into a piece of plastic that was in my ice cream. The next day at breakfast after asking for water 3 times a waitress finally came over to pour us water. Since I did not have a drinking glass, she grabbed an empty glass from the dirty table next to us. The plates of empty food, dirty glasses, etc… were still on the table that she grabbed the glass from. When I asked her if she was sure the glass was clean she said yeah don’t worry. I had to ask her to please go get a clean glass & pointed out to her all the food particles stuck on the glass. The toilet in our bathroom wouldn’t flush and we had to wait 3 hours for someone to come and fix it. The keys to our room were not properly activated so I had to keeping walking back to the front desk to get them reactivated. I could go on but I think you get the point. In short the worst Service I have EVER had. The staff gives them impression of either being lazy or simply uninterested in providing good service. And there were no language barrier issues or misunderstandings that they can claim as an excuse for their poor service because I speak Spanish. They are really lacking on Activites on the Adult side of the Resort. Thank goodness for the Excursions we booked through VIP Tours. Those were a lot of fun and we had excellent service on all of them.

Good: Excellent room, we upgraded in advance to Premium Club with ocean view. Club gave us free room service, which had the best food by far. We also got hydrotherapy spa acess (not spa service though). The beach is beautiful, fair amount of seaweed but still very good. The Casino was OK, Hold Em' starts after 10PM or so. Cash game only. Bad: The buffets were terrible. Oddly they have no idea how to cook/season seafood. Make reservations for the half full restaurants, there is a line and noone in without a reservation? Not sure what is going on with that. The food there is OK but not memorable. Hope you speak spanish too, you will need it. Terrible: The $1000 resort credit is a scam. It's a scam. You get a coupon book that you get a break on overpriced services. $25 off Oakley sunglasses that are full retail or higher. 4 $50 coupons for golf ($200 of your credit). What they don't say is cart is $70 each & if you didn't bring your clubs its another $45 each. $230 I guess isn't too bad for a couple but I had the idea that I had free golf (advertised as a Club perk too) and $1000 resort credit so I could use that for clubs/cart. In the end we did not find 1 coupon we could use. The water sports were terrible too. They are free but you have to pay for lessons ($50 for wind surfing) The entertainment shows start at 10PM and stink. They have no drink service anywhere on or near the beach (1 is kind of close, but the beach is very long) The place is also huge and none of the restaurants are in the "Beach" adults only section. It would take us 25 minutes and 1 train car ride to get to them. The service is OK in many areas but could be terrible in others. They are rude in Spanish only unless you tip a lot which we do. Once you tip it gets much better so if you do tip hold the cash in your hand so they can see it and you will get much better service. Overall we will not be going back. We went to Excellence last year in Punta Cana and it lives up to its name. (Just is a longer ride from the airport)

was EXACTLY what we were looking for. We upgraded to Club Premium on the adults only side and couldn't have been happier. The access to all the restaurants was amazing and the free bottle of Champagne waiting for us in our room was a nice touch!

Upgrading to Club Premium really made the whole trip better! From check-in, to the room, to 10% off purchases. The location is beautiful, the beach awesome, and staff very helpful. On the other hand, the food at the resort was less than edible at times! From overcooked, to undercooked, to being cold instead of hot. Your best bet is to avoid the resort buffet and take the “train” to the Palace and eat the buffet there. We went to a few of the “specialty” restaurants and were not impressed for the same reasons stated earlier. The staff tried hard, but their poor English made communications difficult. The resort was geared much more toward Europeans than Americans. Nice place to visit once, however we wouldn’t vacation there again.

Enjoyable, relaxing. The service was excellent as was the food. Room and a/c were excellent except the bathroom showed a little wear.
