unpleasant surprise.

There was not much to do. The service was very bad. Needed to be closer to the beach or to something entertaining. This place is nothing compared to BlueBay Resorts.

Relaxing Stay- Beautiful experience

Stayed for 10 days and had a wonderful time. Hotel was very, very quiet and offered no animation which was what we expected but not appealing to all. Exceptionally clean, excellent service, great selection of cocktails prepared wonderfully- sometimes Too strong!!! Food was ok for buffet but a bit boring. Pizza restaurant, beach snack bar, ala carte restaurant were amazing and helped break the monotony of the buffet. Beach was about 5 minutes away- very safe walk or quick shuttle that runs every 15 minutes or less.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

For an upgrade price you can use the facilities of the sister hotel which allows you additional dining options at another beach snack bar, buffet, and 2 ala carte restaurants. You can also get a shuttle there from the Victoria or walk along the beach about 5 minutes.Worth the upgrade!!

ten day stay at VH Victoria

VH Victoria was a bit of a disappointment as what we experienced was not even close to what we anticipatedbased on the [...]and other reviews. We purchased two tickets in early September for a ten day stay in early December. We had been told that Gran Vantana-sister hotel with evening entertainment- was included, only to be denied access when we got there due to a Victoria policy change on November 3. As much as we tried to explain our feelings of being cheated, we were not successful, even with the General Manager. She did agree to arrange our viewing the Michael Jackson show on 12/14 as " specially allowed guests". The real issue is the lack of evening entertainment. The Victoria was about 50% empty from 12/7 to 12/16...the only evening entertainnment in ten days was a few hours of Karaoke and a local band on Sat evening outside in the rain. Be prepared to go to bed early. Also, possibly due to the low number of guests, the Victoria really fell down on food quality and variety. Compared to our experiences at Iberostar's and Riu's, we were greatly disappointed. The Beach cafe had much fresher prepared meals, but again, limited variety. The positives of this resort are: a beautiful location on a lush golf course. A super friendly and hard working staff. A very nice beach cafe/small club on Playa Dorada beach. Be advised that local street/beach vendors will repeatedly attempt to sell you unwanted low quality stuff, all day long... The Victoria rooms and grounds are very nice and most everything works. Unusual in Puerta Plata... We had very little sun in ten days, mostly rain/overcast, so you should check the weather before booking a trip to Puerta Plata. Overall, we probably won't return to VH Victoria...

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

Shop the Playa Dorada mini mall....a short walk from Victoria...lots of gift ideas and local jewelry like Larimar....purchase prices are highly negotiable- end up around 50%...

Deceptive advertising

The hotel itself was quiet and it's employees were very nice, however when we made the reservations the offer included use of the Gran Ventana facilities as well as the Victoria, when we arrived we were informed that in order to use the Gran Ventana we had to pay an additional $10 US per person per day in order to use the GV resort. Needless to say that was extremely dissapointing as me and my bride are beach loving people. This did not sit well with us. I found it rather troubling that nobody informed us of this change prior to us arriving. Had we known we would have stayed somewhere else.

quiet relaxation

This was a quiet hotel, and it seemed like there were few guests. I met a nice couple at the bar and it turned out they were in the room right under mine. Their room had a jacuzzi on the private patio, mine had a balcony. There is a sister resort nearby in the same Dorada complex that has more restaurants and nightly entertainment. This resort had a band by the pool some nights, but it was pretty lame. The best part about the trip was the fact that the beach was empty until about 9am and after 7pm. This is a beach that is shared by several resorts, with each having a stretch to themselves. This hotel is not on the beach. Its about a 10 minute walk to the beach, although there is a golf cart that will take you most of the way and back (if you can catch it). There is a bar/cafe on the beach where they serve lunch and snacks and drinks. It was nothing special, but still convenient to have access to food on the beach. I would recommend this hotel to someone who is looking for very quiet surroundings and golf, as it is situated on a golf course.

My stay at Victoria Golf & Beach Resort

It was a most enjoyable stay, with superb and professional staff for the most part, clean environment, great security, and comfortable setting. The only minus for those interested in easy access to the the beach is that it was located at a different location that requires a separate arrangement. The food was great and well presented, particularly the specialty restaurants that are also available for clients. Overall, a place I would return without questions...

Smaller, Quieter, Excellent Food & Staff

Love their beach and the adult pool, You can ride their shuttle to within a short walk to their exclusive section of the beach and enjoy lunch at their beach restaurant and bar. Lots of shade and sun available. The staff are great. Not pushy for tips like we found in Mexico and Cuba, so we were happy to reward good service at the end of our holiday. We like the smaller, quieter, slower pace of this resort. We would like to see some name brands of alcohol served as standard fare in their all inclusive offering.

The resort offers access to the buffet and restaurants at the sister hotel Ventana as well as evening shows and bars. You can take a 10 minute walk or ride a shuttle.
