Great vacation. I would recommend

The resort was clean, beach was amazing. Rooms a little dated, but always clean. Air-conditioning in rooms worked well. Staff very friendly and helpful. The food was by and large very good. Good selection, lots of veggies, well prepared. We especially enjoyed the Octopus a-la-carte experience. The entertainment was not wonderful - especially if you have experienced a Cuban vacation - can't compare in that department. However, in every other respect, the resort comes well-recommended from us. The beach vendors are persistent and could be overwhelming if you let them. And take the catamarran tour - it is amazing.

Buying the catamarran trip from the beach vendors saved us about $25 per person (we bartered the price somewhat with the vendor) and we were on the same boat as those who bought from the hotel. However, the city tour from the beach vendor was very sub-standard. Old van touring us, and driver who was pleasant but wasn't full of information about the city or its history. Probably this kind of tour is better bought from VIP (the hotel vendor)

great for a family or group trip

My overall experience at the resort was good. I really didn' t have any complaints the staff was nice and friendly. My only compliant along with my friends is that the we wish they actually had a club on the resort itself instead of having to leave the resort grounds.Besides that everything was great I also like that there was a mini plaza to shop close by. Food was average but mostly good wish they had more rice and beans with sweet plantain which be a dish available everyday day.The pool was nice I enjoyed the swim up bar and the beach is just a few walks away beautiful. The shows that they provided every night around nine p.m were decent. I would definitely and friends as well would go back.

GREAT TIME IN THE DR!

Stayed for here with three two friends for 4 nights and enjoyed every minute! We took two day trips off of the resort. One to the waterfalls and the other snorkeling at Sosua beach. I highly recommend both of them! All of the staff was very polite and spoke English very well. Not much of a nightlife at the hotel. Pools close at 7pm. I would recommend this hotel to a friend!

Highly recommend a day tip to go see the waterfalls! We booked through a guy on the beach and had no complaints! There are similar trips offered through the hotel at a higher price. Don't be afraid to bargain with the salesmen on the beach!

Dining tip: In Hotel

If you want to eat at the a la carte restaurants (there are three), book in advance b/c they only take reservations daily from 8am-12noon and the line can sometimes get to be over an hour long!

Great for elderly people. Its small enough for them to get around

My mom (83) & I had a nice, relaxing time. The weather was good for most of our stay & I didn't mind the little bit of rain that we got, no snow! lol The staff are very helpful.

Decent vacation

It's a decent hotel, the amenities are OK. If you're looking for good weather for a few days, this is a fine place for you. If you're looking for a lot of activities in the hotel and/or region, you are better off booking somewhere else.

You get what you pay for

Rooms: The rooms were average. They were kept clean and seemed nice. The ac in our room was very loud. The mattress was very hard and the pillow's weren't much. The room was in need of some renovations and updating, especially in the bathroom. Food: Food was hit and miss. The breakfast buffet was what I would expect. For lunch, there weren't many options and what they did offer was not very good. If you are lucky to get a reservation (which does require some luck) you can count on good food. If you are stuck eating at the buffet, it will be sub-par. Drinks: Drinks were the one good thing. Good variety and they make them plenty strong. Only complaint here is that the cups are so small you have to keep going back to get refills. Beach: The beach was nice. Warm water, nice sand, and quality chairs. Only problem was the resort complex employees people to walk up and down the beach every day trying to get you to buy things. That in itself isn't that bad, problem is they sometimes borderline harass you trying to get you to buy stuff. Be prepared when you go out to the beach because they all sit at the entrance from the beach to the resort. Overall this is an average resort. I probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking to travel to the DR.

Great place

Great hotel, friendly helpful staff. It was a slow weekend, so only one restaurant was open instead of three. Buffet options were limited. But at restaurant, food was good and service was great. The waiter noticed I did not eat much, and offered another dish... Great service. Bartenders were great....

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

25 min walk outside to beach and left to get great deals on paintings. Buy coffee and liquor at gate on second floor. Much cheaper!!

Wonderful hotel at a great bargain

Fantastic service from start to finish. Cocktails provided at the check-in desk on arrival. Smiles and greetings from all the staff. Beautiful pool and beach-side location. With the all-inclusive options, it was an amazingly good deal. Only downside is that it is a pain to get to if flying from Santiago airport (STI).

If you fly in to STI but don't plan on renting a car, make sure to bargain hard with the taxi drivers or looks for someone to share the ride with to Puerto Plata, which takes about 90 minutes.
