The Riu Merengue All Inclusive resort lies along the beach of Maimon Bay on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic. Policies and fees

  • At least one person who is at least 21 years old in every room. The hotel reserves the right of admission and therefore we may not allow any room in which all guests are younger than 21 years. This situation can have serious consequences and should be avoided at any cost. No student groups under 21 years or spring breakers are accepted all year round. In all RIU hotels and room categories (unless specified otherwise), the maximum occupancies are four bodies per room, either three adults and one child or two adults and two children. Four adults are not permitted. All bodies in each room will fit on existing bedding, any special request remains upon availability. Children and third adult will sleep in existing bedding. Children under two years stay and eat free. Their age must be specified in the booking.
  • Honeymooners will receive a surprise gift in their room upon arrival. Certificate of marriage will be required upon arrival. Any special request such as extra beds, roll-aways, cribs or room next door, is subject to hotel availability. Guests will be informed at check-in.

Extraordinary Resort!!

The RIU Merengue is an all-inclusive resort filled with warmth. As a woman traveling alone, my presence was closely monitored by the hotel staff. They made sure that I had a trustworthy tour guide for the City of Puerto Plata tour--which I embarked upon independently (not including the guide of course); the staff ensured that I did not miss my rural tour departure for a rural section outside of Puerto Plata; and the staff made sure that I was made aware of the many spectacular hotel events. They truly cared about me! All guests are their top priority. The lobby is clean, the bars are clean, the rooms are clean, and the beach is neat. This hotel is a "must see."

Amazing!

Swim up bar at Riu Bachata was great. Food was deliscious, service impecable! Definately a go!

First Int'l getaway in 20 years

I like that it's all inclusive. But do expect to carry some spending money(at least $200 US or more) to get the most of your experience(city tours/taxis/souvenirs,etc). The room kind of had a musty, basement type of smell. But you get used to it fast. The food is decent, few choices here & there. By the second or third night, it's like "Didn't I have this yesterday?" Didn't like the pool closing at 6pm. Only resort that is somewhat close to an actual city. Go take advantage of the city tours that are offered. Otherwise, you're just gonna be bored staying at the resort for too long. Strongly recommend it for a first timer to DR. Get to see the country itself(poor, historical parts) But next time, Punta Cana, or Playa Dorada for me.

UGH!!!! Not a good vacation at all

The hotel is very nice. The Beach is nice as well. Staff is attentive and gracious. All speak English and work to serve the guests needs Rooms: So-So NO king size beds at the hotel two doubles beds pushed together that sag in the middle. Get a second floor room I had frogs coming in through the toilet on the ground floor flush them and they come back the next day had to change rooms Food--Awful....sour fruit for breakfast don't eat the hamburgers dinner was passable Too many kids (rotten rude ones)parents were not much better. TV only has 5 or 6 english stations, rooster fighting a prime time event on TV in spanish ( all good) Perhaps another week other than presidents week would be better to go there The RIU in the Bahamas is 10 times as better I don't take many vacations and this one was a horrible
