Stylish all-inclusive property on Playa Dorada Beach

Puerto Plata Village, conceived as a replica of the town of Puerto Plata, mixes the elegance of Victorian architecture with the modern conveniences of the 21st century. The Selman family, one of the most respected families in the Dominican Republic, founded Puerto Plata Village in 1989. The beach of Playa Dorada, with its golden sand and blue waters, is only 550 meters away from the village. The golf course, designed by Robert Trent Jones, surrounds the hotel.

Highlights
  • Intriguing architecture
  • Proximity to beach and city of Puerto Plata
  • All-inclusive dining and activities, including kosher meals
Rooms

Superior Rooms have two double beds, balcony, air conditioning, cable television, mini fridge, full bathroom with tub and shower, and hairdryer. The Master Suite features a large sitting area and access to a private terrace, surrounded by lush tropical gardens.

Features
The all-inclusive package includes unlimited water sports such as kayaking, sailing, scuba diving, boogie-boarding and more. For an extra charge, try that Robert Trent Jones golf course or tour the many sites in Puerto Plata like the rum factory and Amber Museum. Children love spending time at the Kids Club, where they can partake in group activities and make new friends. There's also a children's pool and a playground located directly on the beach. Also on premises are six clay-surface tennis courts, two of which can be lit up at night.

Themed restaurants include La Piñata (Mexican), Rigoletto (Italian) and Criollo (Caribbean Cuisine). The casual Altamira Buffet and Arenazo Beach Bar and Grill are other options. Puerto Plata Village is the only resort in the area with kosher food, and they also offer vegetarian options.

After dinner, everyone makes their way over to the Ambrosia Disco.

Relaxed

If you are looking to be spoiled, this is not your resort. It provides the budget traveler everything they need. Rooms are showing their age, but everything worked. Tub had a little rust. Food is plentiful, but nothing special, kind of blue collar. No stomach problems at all. Booking a meal at one of the restaurants isn't worth the trouble. 5 entrees on the menu, but only 1 is available that night, and it's something you've had at the buffet. Internet is really slow. The location neighbors many other resorts. Golf cart takes u to the beach, as nice as others. Lucy (dances competitively), and Angie (sings), are sweet bosses.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

If you go to the Safari to waterfalls tour, they provide hard plastic water shoes, which combined with inevitable river gravel, will seriously hurt your feet with all the walking. Bring an old pair of sneakers.

Great get away for couples or family

Our stay was very pleasant. There was a wide variety of food for adults and children and two pools. Also there was enough extra activity curriculums to keep everyone busy throughout your stay. You catered to everyone needs.

Basic Hotel

The hotel was very basic... If your looking for something elaborate this is not the place! They gave us no inforamtion at check-in about the hotel. The restaurants were closed 4 nights we were there so we had to eat buffet. When called to fix things in the room they never came....The positive thing is the staff was very friendly!!

puerto plata village

this was my 2nd time in under 6 months and some improvements are being made, I will start here. The animation staff are getting a little better in their job and keeping the gestures to family oriented. The rooms are clean although I was lending my shower to a few people in another building who had on going issues. Food quality dropped and because of the lack of guests they are trying different things to save on waste, I do honor the efforts. For the most part the place is quiet and a big effort is made into its cleanliness. It is what it is and for the "price" a good vacation. I give appluase to the dining staff as except for 1 sour faced young lady, they are all pleasant. I send a c- out to the bar tender that thinks yelling zuuup is cool, it gets annoying. The thing though that would keep me from recomending this hotel or any other in the area is that on Saturday and Sunday until 3p.m. the locals come and they are "loud" and take over and make it so that you give up your place, be it pool side or at the bar, they do not follow the rules (which to the rest of us who are reminded of them all week long)and if you tell a guard about it, they all of a sudden don't speak your language and leave the area, but by the way, they are also the life guard.
