new years trip
the staff at the hotel was very nice. staff members allowed us to use their cell phone to make a local call at no charge. the only draw back was that there was no free wifi at the resort. reservations to eat at the restaurant fill up early but if you do not get one you can always eat at the buffet.

frequent vacational
rating: minus-5 stars, -5, -5, yes.. I mean it -5 starts.
To give a "Not Good rating" to this place is being considerable. Honestly, this place is in the bottom of the worst. First night there we have to change room 3 times, the bed, room and facility was the worst I had ever seem, bed was dirty, blanket with red stain # lipstick or menstrual period it doesn't make a different because everything was so dirty, worn-out and old#, there was not toilet paper, and not bottle of water, they give you the first bottle of water and then you have to refill from a big bottle from the hallway that most of the time was empty, there was not blower dryer in the first 2 rooms we changed to, no toiletry items. But this is the less that I can say. I was so descusting with the bed that I was willing to sleep sitting down on a wooded chair. Everything was old, broken down and dirty; the food was poor and everything meassured, sometimes a food will finished and people have to wait for them to get more from the reserved restaurant for people with vacational club membership. At night it was pitch black outside, every walk-way was dark, onwer being cheap to save money in energy. This place should be boarded-up and closed down. I am a native Dominican living in NY and I was embarrased to invite my niece over to this place to expend a few days with us #myself, husband and daughter#. We take vacation once or twice a year, so we know the difference between a decent place and dump place. We didn't let the experience at this place to ruin our vacation, so we decided to leave and expend 3 nights in another place. Not Sorry, NOt Excuses from them and our money wasted and lost at this place. Or on top of all these they charged the price of a 4 start resort, $ 145.00 dollars P/person for each night. Please read my review and choose smart when it comes to this hotel.

IN LOVE with Celuisma!!
Just returned from a week away in the Dominican Republic. Myself and 5 friends (all female, 20-somethings) stayed at Celuisma Playa Dorada. We left this trip raving about it! Booking the hotel, we were unsure about it because of the bad reviews. Here is our review: Pros: Rooms - Spotless rooms! Housekeeping was great - Free upgrade to a townhouse style room - Air conditioning worked perfectly - Comfortable beds - Safe and secure - Premium tv channels - Bottled water, towels, and blankets delivered when requested - Felt no need for the safe Resort - Clean, safe environment - Beautiful landscaping - Immaculately clean pool - Great open air lounge with bar, pool tables, ping pong, and foosball - AMAZING beach (clean, plenty of sun or shade, sparkling water) Food - Four restaurants, one open every night (need reservations) - Buffet open often, great selection - Snack bar on beach was extremely convenient - Small store on premisis with snacks Entertainment (best part!!) - Staff was friendly and welcoming. Bar tenders and servers recognized you after the first day and were excellent. We tipped them at the end of the week. - Entertainment staff were the perfect group! They played games and hosted activities every hour. Did things such as volleyball games, pool tournaments, ring toss, darts, frisbee, beach aerobics, dance lessons, and Spanish lessons. This list is NOT all-inclusive! - The discoteca on site was not open. The entertainment staff walked with you to a disco down the street every night at 11. Drinks were free for a few of the nights. Coco Bongo Disco is open until 6am! - Each night, the entertainment staff hosted a show after dinner from 930-11. We saw a dance show, international dance competition, karaoke, and Miss Celuisma pageant. - Plenty to do for free on the resort, but also there is staff at the resort who will help you book excursions (catamaran trips, snorkeling, scuba, horseback riding, zip lining, jeep safaris etc.) We went on an all-day catamaran trip which included snorkeling on two reefs for $60 per person. Miscellaneous - The resort was welcoming to people of all ages. We saw families, young couples, and older couples all having a great time. Now for the cons: - Hot water was minimal around dinner time. Other times it was great! - Had to request more towels - Rooms didn't come with hair driers or many toiletries (just soap) - Pool closes at 6pm, Hot tub closes at 8 - Buffet could have had a bit more flavor - restaurants give you four choices only - Most places only accepted pesos. There is a bank next door at the plaza that does exchanges. - Gift shop on site didnt have too many choices, but there are tons at the plaza that take visa or MC! - Taxis are a bit scary but are cheap - Locals will take advantage of you being from another country and overcharge you. Bargain with them! - Don't buy souvenirs off the beach peddlers, they will overcharge you. - Go to the plaza to buy anything you forgot, sunscreen is $20 US at the resort (yikes!!) - Internet is not free. They have wireless internet in the rooms and an internet cafe. prices start at $4 US for 15 minutes. We had an amazing time because we went into it knowing it wasn't a 5 star resort. It is definitely 3 stars but worth every penny!!

Sightseeing tip:
Short drive from hotel
Caribe tours is a bus company that buses you to Sosua, La Vega, Santiago, and Santo Domingo for under $10 US per person. Buses are comfortable and safe! Take a cab from the resort to the bus station for around $4 US per person.

Forget it!
If you aare thinking value? Spend the extra bucks and go to another hotel. Even though we called ahead to reserve our room and were told everything is in place, we still had to wait several hours for our room. The tv in the LR area was not working, the bathroom faucet was leaking, the phone had no dial tone, the AC was so noisey you couldn't hear yourself talk. Evening shows had homosexual overtones. Not really appropriate for family .We had to haul our luggage all the way from one end of the resort to the front desk area at check out, even though we arranged to have the bell boy with the trolley pick us up. When we arrived at the front desk the clerk looked at us and said while chuckling "oh sorry Senora". I guess she thought our sweaty, displeased appearance, because of the lack of service, was funny! The loation is good, the hotel is run down, the service is ..well. Suffice it to say we won't be back anytime soon.

Good old Hotel
The hotel was booked 100%. It seems to be a refuge for locals as well as tourists, incl. spring-breakers. Don't expect peace and quiet. We got a free upgrade which was great: moved into a suite. The hotel is being renovated... but some things are still old... A/C, plumbing... But the beach is right there... so who cares about these details.
