- Located a short distance from the Victorian city of Puerto Plata, this resort takes its name from the Prince of the Taino Indians, the islands first inhabitant. The beachfront resort is a 20 minutes drive from the international airport of Puerto Plata and less than an hour drive from the city of Santiago de los Caballeros, well known for its fine cigars and old rum distilleries. This hotel has gone down hill since my last stay. I was surprised to see such a change. The food they serve looked more like dog food. On my second night there, I had to order a pizza from Dominoe Pizza for dinner. I truly believe that dogs are fed better food than what they serve their guests. Their snack bar is also awful. Their hamburgers were placed in hot water and were given the guests uncooked. I caught severe stomach problems while my stay at Be Live GrandMarien. I had to call the front desk to find out if there were any nearby restaurants and i was told there were none, which was a lie.

It was fun
I came here for my birthday in February. I had a blast! the drinks kept coming and the staff was awesome. It is more of a family resort and relaxation, but if you really want to party right outside of the hotel there's a club called PURE it was fun. And 10 minute drive away from the resort you have a bunch of party places. Over all the beach was great and the drinks were awesome. I had a tequila sunrise every morning ;)

Couple Of Love
Great Relaxing Vacation
Had a wonderful relaxing 7 days on the beach. Loved our room and our bed was so comfortable we slept late every day. Staff was friendly and helpful. Food was nothing spectacular but very acceptable. I would recommend the 27 waterfalls tour for the adventurous. Was very easy and reasonable to book at the hotel. Great value for the money.........

Not bad for the money
I stayed here in September of 2012. As I was a female traveling alone I thought it would be safest to stay at an all-inclusive. I had read the past reviews and was a little nervous but all in all it wasn't bad. The food wasn't great but the staff was very nice and the 24 hour access to food was nice. However, if you are traveling alone I would not recommend staying here. Stay at one of the hostels in Cabarete. They are more geared toward that sort of travel. Make sure you check out the 27 waterfalls tour...it made the trip.

Short drive from hotel
Check out the shopping in central Puerto Plata but make sure you don't pay what they ask! They almost always double or triple the price at first.

Be Live Grand Marien
If you like food, this is the place for you. Selection and quality is top notch, Unfortunately, the room air conditioning does not meet acceptable standards for cooling even after two service calls. After the service call, the room temp was still 90. Only one of the restaurants is air conditioned, with the others open to birds which swoop on your food when you leave the table. Entertainment and other facilities are very good. Plenty of security guards patrol day and night, but there seems to be a lack of lifeguards around the pool area and beach.
