Hotel is not bad for the price, food was good, not too many choices but overall good. Beach was beautiful. Not enough beach chairs or towels. Had to get up at 6:30am every day to "reserve" beach chairs, and one time another guest removed my items from chair, throw it in sand and took chair, so that when I arrived at 8:30 I only had one chair! Hotel allows "vendors" to stay on beach all day (example: women who braid hair, sit under shade all day, taking up shade space and talking all day, every day) They have security standing by entrance to beach all day which makes no sense - as vendors are allowed on beach. Hotel staff treats European/Canadians much better. Security guards treat you as if you are sneaking into hotel, when you are paying to stay there! shows were not very good, not much to do. If you want to stay with an older crowd and just sit by the beach it's fine. Bottom line - you get what you pay for.

OK getaway.
Well, I got plenty of rest..undisturbed sleep, which was wonderful! The staff was indeed friendly. I was well taken care of. The Beach..just great! Got plenty of sun. I had a few problems in the beginning when I arrived: 1. I thought My traveling to the hotel was included..NOT! had to pay for a Taxi (rip-offs!) 2. The A/C didnt work in the first room I occupied. I had to wait until alomst 3 pm for another room. 3. "The Locals" need I say more! :( 4. Annoying vendors!

So So
Some vendors attempt to rip you off when using dollars and converting from pesos. Bell boy service took 20 minutes to respond aka "Dominican time." On weekends, locals recieve a great price for vacationing and weekends are mobbed at the pool, poolside umbrellas, and buffets. Food is ok and gets old quickly.

Barcelo Premium
I had a great stay, thanks to the entire Premium staff. The ladies at the premium concierge were amazing. Didn't care for the entertainment staff. [*] The locals from Santiago take over this resort on the weekends. They are rude and pushy, especially in the buffet diningroom and the show area. Each person would save even 10 seats for family members. I am not opposed to Barcelo allowing locals, however, if they would like repeat clientele from other countries, then they should limit their room blocks to a smaller amount to locals on the weekends. In the long run, this is hurting their business. Barcelo, look at all the complaints that other people have on the locals at your property. Property has a lot of amenities for a relaxing, fun vacation

Okay stay
While at the resort we went to a couple of tours which were good, they were set up by the rep at hotel lobby. The hotel was too loud on the weekend as locals took over the place. The service was awful as the servers seemed occupied about talking to each other rather than serving the guests. Too many children. The only positive was the night shows on stage and the disco right on the beach. The food was awful and made my girlfriend and I sick for like three days of our 11 day stay. The hotel grounds were nice and the beach was nice.Rooms were okay. Pushy vendors on the beach that act as if they are yor friends.

Unbeatable location for the price
While at hotel we enjoyed the swimming pools and beach. enjoyed the nightly shows and disco. Food /drinks were good. You have a choice of restaurants, Italian,Brazilian,Oriental,Main Buffet Restaurant. Overall the Buffet Restaurant was very good. This was my first all inclusive trip it was good. I think I would return if I ever decide to make another trip.

Nice place for the price we paid.
This was the first time we went there, the place was nice, food was good, the kids enjoy the pool and the beach and the comedy show, the only thing on what I was disappointed was the room, the shower was broken, there was a water leak in the room, we called many times for repair and nobody came, most of the staff was very helpful, people from the restaurants were very professionals, the overall for being the first time going it was nice.

Puerto Plata
I enjoyed my six day stay at Barcelo. The food was delicious (especially the Mexican & Brazilian) and the staff were friendly, but it would have been easier if the staff had spoken more English. At times it was hard to communicate with some of them for simple requests. If you don't mind tons of children running around the resort then this is the place for you! It's super kid-friendly. Overall, Barcelo certainly doesn't have that four (4) star appeal but it was worth the money. I'd definitely recommend it to others.

Entertainment tip:
Short walk from hotel
Hemingway's or CocoBongo offered much better entertainment than the hotel's entertainment which starts at 9pm each night. They're both a short walk from the hotel site.

I had a Great Time!!!!
The best part about this Hotel are the Staff. They were so nice and friendly, I made tons friends while staying their :D The food was good and the rooms were not. Only issues were the timing of the food places, wish they were open longer and the rooms A/C was a little to high. I would definitley go back, the price was good :)
