Relaxing getaway

My second time at this Hotel and it did not disappoint. From the champagne welcome at check in all was awesome. The staff are very friendly and the food is top notch. The Specialty restaurants are real fine dining and the nightly live performance shows are really professional. Getting there from Santo Domingo is only 45 minutes and the area is more relaxed than Punta Cana. I will definitely be back.

Great Vacation

We were surprised when learned that new Luxury Bahia Principe was opened and we'll stay there. Personnel were very accommodating. Food in the Buffet was great - nicely presented and big variety. Plenty of shade on the beach, and very convenient layout of bars, restaurants and entertainment. We liked that after dinners before the Shows there were live music with dancing, and animation team was very active to cheer the guests

Great Family vacation, perfect beach

All staff is very friendly and very helpful. The beach is very nice, clean sand... No vawes... You can walk in the water and feel only sand. no problem with towels. If you wake up at 7 am or at 8 am - you will be the only one swimming in the ocean. The beach is not crowded. Kids have a lot of fun. A lot of activites! A lot of shadow on the beach...

A quiet destination

Gran Bahia Principe listed as being in La Romana is actually positioned in a small bay closer to San Pedro De Macoris(over 2O km from La Romana). First the good on this resort: Absolutely beautiful grounds which are cared for an a daily basis in the mornings. The main lodge is tasteful and elegant. The staff was very friendly and incredibly hard working. The all-inclusive package includes decent food buffets (not superb but not terrible)as well as dine-in restaurants on the grounds that cover anywhere from seafood to Italian. Alcoholic beverages are covered however somewhat basic and generic. If you want a premium alcoholic label you will have to pay extra. At night the resort employs entertainers (dancers) to put on shows in a fairly large theater. Here you will see anything from lip synced music presentations, to Dominican folk dancing, and even a very bizarre horror show that includes elements of Dracula, zombies, Michael Jackson's Thriller, and Rocky Horror picture show (did I say it was bizarre?). At night after 10:30pm there is live music outside (limited to a singer and a keyboard player), a disco tech, and an all-night snack bar. The location of this resort if both a virtue and a vice. The fact that it is the only resort in the area means that it will be quiet and the only people you will see will be the patrons of the resort. This is really a matter of opinion and based entirely and each guest. For myself after spending 5 days at the Gran Bahia I found the schedule somewhat repetitive when I would have preferred a little more variety. Resorts that are nearby other resorts or grouped together will mean more mingling of guests, entertainment, and food options. But to each his own. Overall I had an enjoyable stay and have come home with good memories and a smile on my face.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

Toured the cigar factory in La Romona (largest cigar factory in the world) which was fun, educational, and received a free cigar as part of the tour.
