Great trip!!!!

My wife and i spent 4 nights at this resort. Everything was great, except for the food. The food was good at best. The pool was clean, the beach was clean, the staff was on top things, i have no complaints about the service. The room was clean. The grounds were beautiful and well kept. The hotel can use a little renovations, but for the price we pay it was more than we can ask for.

Great mini vacation!!!!!!

We spent 3 nights and we had a great time. The room was clean, the pool was awesome. The location couldn't have been better. The grounds were beautiful and well kept. This hotel is a little out dated but for the price we pay, you cant go wrong. I think they do a great job with the entertainment. i would of giving 5 stars if it wasn't for the food. The food at the buffet was not that great. but, you can still find something you might like. The beach was great, and everybody was nice and helpful.

Good vacatiion

I and my husbund were in Catalonia Gran Dominicus from April 22 to April 29. We had very good time. Hotel staff was very friendly. Food was very good and tasteful. Beach was very good with nice and clear water and has a lot of shadows. Room was old with old furniture, but we didn't spent a lot of time in the room. It was good vacation for the money what we spent.

Perfect Honeymoon Getaway/Vacation

My wife and I were very satisfied with the resort itself and also with the location of the hotel in terms of it was away from the big city and located right on the beach. The staff was very friendly and always offered an "Hola" as we walked the grounds. We felt safe and enjoyed the various restaurants on the resort. There were numerous tourists from Europe here and very few Americans, which was a treat, in my opinion. There were shows each night at 10 p.m. and we went to those a few times while there. My only complaint is the toilet in our room, which didn't seem to have a lot of pressure to flush properly. Our room had A/C and a ceiling fan. Overall, great beach (careful of sea urchins), very good food and wonderful Dominicans on staff. Would visit here again! :) By the way, the majority of the staff spoke limited English, but did speak Italian and French. This was a challenge for my wife as she speaks no Spanish, but, in my opinion, was nice to see a place that was not americanized like many places in the world.

Book the transfer service from the Santo Domingo airport online before going to the Dom Rep. Our driver was awesome, although spoke no English (which was great as I wanted to practice speaking Spanish). It's worth the money to book the transfer online vs. trying to find a cab to take you 1.5 hours to La Romana-Bayahibe area. Totally worth it.

a good family trip

Great location on a beautiful beach. Mainly Europeans which, as Americans, we found refreshing. The staff were all nice and friendly. the entertainment was a bit childish, but most people seemed to enjoy it. Except for the crepes on the beach (fantastic!) the buffet and special restaurant food was remarkably boring and uninspired. The rooms were nice and clean. The downside was we booked for a family of 3 on a package deal and they only had a king bed for all of us--not fun. Also our room was right next to a service road, so by 730 a.m. it was very noisy--oh well, not like we were sleeping anyway due to cramped arrangements. The local town Bayahibe is wonderful fishing town for local flavor, good shopping and a welcomed relief from the resorts bland, blah food. Overall a good stay with a few hitches.

A relaxing, beautiful & fun getaway

The staff is very appreciative of your stay @their hotel. They have an entertainment staff that is very positive & welcoming. If you need alittle nudge to have fun, they are very good @ seeing that your vacation is fun(if that is what you are hoping for) & relaxing. If you have a concern, they will see to it that they tell the right people of your needs. We were from the U.S., we had two friends that spoke Spanish fluently, which helped a great deal. The majority of the staff spoke spanish, some Italian,French,German. If there was a language barrier, there was usually someone from their staff that they could get, to help communicate in English. If you are not willing to bend, this is prob.not the place for you. The staff is very appreciative of your efforts in speaking any Spanish as well. The grounds are emaculate & very picturesque. The beach as well. There were plenty of chairs to lounge in the sun. Also, many areas to eat @ any time of the day. I would definately stay here again.

Take advantage of the special dining areas they have. They give vouchers for a sit down dinner/menu vs. the Buffet style area. Depending on how many nites you stay, you can enjoy 4 star dining experience.

Never Again!!!

Upon check-in the employees didn't speak an ounce of English and neither did the guests. It didn't get better. The entire trip we were struggling to ask questions and get our points across. My sister and I were the only Americans. Got to room and it smelled of moth balls. Problem upgrading. Staff was some of the rudest people I have ever encountered. The food was the worst I have ever tasted and just looked nasty. The pool was perfect and couldn't be nicer and the beach was nice as well. I have stayed at other well known resorts and reccommend staying at reputable brands.

Exciting hotel for singles and families

This hotel had a beautiful beach and a beach bar with a wonderful bar staff. There were many restaurants to choose from. The buffet offered a lot of variety both in meals and desserts. The speciality restaurants are ok at best. We preferred the buffet. The only alcoholic beverages offered in the specialty restaurant is beer and wine which makes the selection limited. The service at the bars was excellent with the staff going the extra mile to meet your needs. The waitstaff in all the restaurants also did their best to provide exceptional service. The crepes at the beach provided a nice touch because we got to enjoy our favorite crepes while watching the beautiful ocean. The pizzeria was a plus since we were able to create our own pizza and they baked it on site. Entertainment was great since the staff always tried to keep everyone involved with activities such as beach volleyball, dancing, pool aerobics, etc. At night there were perfomances in the theater and a very nice open air disco with dancing. The housekeeping staff was also very pleasant and willing to accommodate all our request. To summarize there was always something to eat in the resort and always something to do. Therefore, we were never bored and never hungry. I will certainly recommend this resort.

Pretty Good

The beach was beautiful as was the room. Service was friendly and prompt, no one expected a tip and they were eager to please you, the rooms were kept wonderfully clean and the entertainment was great. The food was OK, not quite good and far from great (the steakhouse was the better of the three restaurants, the buffet was just plain bad), The crepe bar on the beach was in fact good tho! the drinks were bottom shelf all the way, We couldn't catch a buzz the whole time because of how low quality the alcohol was. the only beer available was Presidente (not bad- but they charged 3 bucks for a corona - kind of strange). We stayed in the privileged room and they brought us champaign and fruit and we received fruit and other little benefits. The only thing that bothered me was the promise of discounts at their premium bar and spa (20 % off) and then their failure to honor them when we attempted to use them (claiming only *some* things could be 20% off, aka the most expensive things only) Overall, we liked it. We'd probably return and we believe they are striving to improve (their is clear control and management along with guest surveys on improving their hotels). We would have liked to have some better food/drinks and more honest advertising for their discounts but I guess it is what it is.
