That was cute...kinda

It was nice to be able to enjoy a quiet and clean room but I gotta tell you, when I request one of the best rooms that they have, am given the answer, "Of course", and then receive a room which doesn't look all that different from a Motel 6, then I begin to wonder whether or not I'm taken seriously as a customer at all. I was a bit bothered by this and was about to voice just how bothered I was to the reception personnel until my fiancé reminded me that we were there to enjoy ourselves and not to worry about it. I didn't want to make a scene and spoil the mood, so I let it slide. Besides, the room was clean, the plumbing was good, and the t.v. was working. Upon check-out, we were charged a very small fee in addition to the room, which had already been paid for. After it was explained to us that it was not a fee but a donation to UNICEF, I was more than happy to pay. However, I DO NOT like surprises and if I'm going to donate to a cause or organization, I'd rather have an actual choice in the matter. The way the paper was presented to me was done in a fashion as if I had no say-so in the matter. There was no question as to whether or not I'd be interested in donating, the paper had already been printed out, and they were awaiting payment. If this is the manner in which business is conducted within Djibouti, I feel that it should be explained to the Djiboutians that most reputable businesses do not conduct business in this fashion.

Dining tip: Not Applicable

Plenty of really good restaurants out in town. If you're into Lebanese, Ethiopian, French, Japanese, or Indian cuisines, you'll find plenty of that out here. Just stick with the reputable restaurants, don't drink the water unless it's bottled, keep your malaria inoculations or meds up to date, and you should be fine.
