Needs updating

We stayed for three nights at the Blu Royal. The staff was very friendly, and helpful. The location is very close to the train station, and across the street from Tivoli. I did find the hotel to be very tired. Carpets in the room and hallways look old, and the elevators had missing trim, cracked mirrors, and very dirty carpet. The room we had was noisy - for two reasons. We overlooked Tivoli, which is a great view, but the music was loud on Friday night until about midnight, and from what I could tell, when the room was renovated many years ago, they added additional power between the room next door and our room to light the panels behind the bed. The walls are concrete, so they must have drilled through both walls to run the electrical cables and did not seal around the cables. We could hear the people in the next room. We actually thought the TV was on in our room when we entered. We found the beds and pillows to be very soft and mushy. We did not prepay for breakfast, and thought it was very expensive (about 200 DKR per person, around $35.00 CDN). We were surprised to find they charge for computer use, although wifi is free. This was the only hotel out of 9 hotels and one B & B on our trip to charge for computer use.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

The Barbar Bar, has a great "light" breakfast which includes French Toast, eggs or yoghurt, bacon, fruit, and breads for under 60 DKR. The kitchen opens at 10:00.

Very adequate

We got a great deal, having paid in full about 9 months in advance. The hotel entrance was difficult to find, since there is no driveway, and the signage is just terrible. I had to drive around the block three times, and send my husband to ask a bystander to tell us how to get into their garage. Once we checked in, we were given a corner room on a lower floor. This is the same size room as the other, standard rooms, but with windows on two sides, which turned out to be very important, in the sense that it gave us a sense of more space. The morning sun was wonderful, despite the view over the rail tracks. I initially thought that the ability for everyone to see into our room from the nearby buildings was a disadvantage, but it didn't turn out to be a big deal, since the morning sun was so bright that closing the curtains didn't darken the bathroom much. The bathroom floor is heated, which was nice. The shower was very funky, where the glass partition, protecting only the half of the shower/bath area, would allow water to drip onto the bathroom floor. It was also a bit small for the average American body. The room decor is distinctly 60s modern, but not displeasing, despite its funkiness. The beds were okay, not horrible but not very comfortable. As long as you can get a great price, the location makes this hotel a good choice, given that it is one block from the central train station, as well as from Tivoli and the visitor information office.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

There are a number of good places to eat that are much cheaper than what you find within the hotel and in Tivoli: Go to the main train station, which is just a block away, for Indian food (really great), noodles/rice dishes (okay), ice cream, Middle Eastern food (very good).

Great location, what you would expect from a Radisson

Covenientky located right across from Tivoli Gardens and the central train station. But there is a lot of construction around the area. One of the elevators in the hotel was being worked on so often a wait for the elevators. The concierge staff was very helpful but the rest of the staff was "typically Danish" and not always helpful. Beware that when you don't book directly with the hotel, you don't have as much control over your requests. We requested a crib and a king bed and they caused a big fuss and said they didn't know if they could accomodate us or fit a crib.

Location: Great - Price: Not so great

The Raddison Blu SAS Royal hotel in Copenhagen is centrally located. This is its main attraction. The rooms were comfortable and clean, but this is definitely not a 5 star hotel. The rooms are small sized and the carpeting and chairs look old and had stain marks on them. The beds were too low and much too soft for a comfortable night's sleep. The staff was very nice and the bellman provided excellent service. Rooms in the upper part of the hotel give a good view of the surrounding area, including nearby Tivoli Gardens. The hotel's food prices are outrageous. We did not eat at the hotel. If I ever plan to stay in Copenhagen again, I would stay at a less expensive hotel.

Great view & location,needs renovation

The hotel had a great location and view of Tivoli. Despite being designed by Arne, the hotel seems long overdue for a renovation. There were persistent problems with the toilet running constantly (both ours and person above us). Some of the drawers would hang off their hinges when pulled out. There were some stains on the bedsheets and duvet covers when we checked into the room. (The pillows and comforters were a very nice plush down on the plus side.) Also, the twin beds were not fixed together to make a full-size bed - they easily rolled apart enough for someone to fall through to the floor. It's a pricy hotel and even though Copenhagen is a pricy city, I think you could find better value elsewhere.

Expensive but with a wonderful location.

This is a really nice hotel. It's quite expensive, but the location and the extremely friendly and helpful staff make it very nearly worth it.

Great location and well appointed and comfortable hotel

Had a great 4 night stay at this very central hotel, with spectacular view overlooking the city across to Sweden. Nice to be in a well designed room, with good accoustics and the little touches that make a difference. Worth the money.

Good place to stay

Good: Perfect location. Nice hotel room. Average European size (kinda small). Connected to free adjacent full gym used by the public too - the best gym I have ever seen included with a hotel room (I travel frequently). Bad: Soggy bed (resulted in sore back). Staff, particularly the one concierge, helpful but often busy. If you want a dark room during their long sunlight hours, this is not the place = quite poor blinds.

Royal lives up to it's name

Nicely decorated rooms with designer furniture, and a central location make pretty much everything within walking distance, and if not, the nearby train and subway system makes most sight seeing very accessible.
