This hotel sucks

We paid extra to get a hotel in the middle of the city. unfortunately the entire city shuts down during christmas. We got there and the front desk staff told me that there was absolutely nothing to do in the city at this time of year. he suggested nothing. we had to ferret out and finally found a movie theater open almost across the street. couldnt he know that was open? the hotel didn't have a fitness center or any amenities.[...]this hotel sucks.

the good,the bad,and the ugly

The hotel was overrated in terms of the services and the size of the rooms. The staff lacked the experience or willingness to help provide services. We were with another couple who were also disappointed . the only plus was the location of the hotel which made it convenient to walk to a lot of places we wanted to visit.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

For an American, eating out in Copenhagen can be very expensive. About 3 blocks away from the Imperial is ChiliMilli a salad place with real value and healthy food that is very tasty and plentiful. Restaurant Ida Davidsen on the other hand is a very famous sandwich place where the eponymous owner operator may treat you like dirt and refuse to answer a reasonable question about the menu. You will pay around $20 for a small open faced sandwich (also tasty, admittedly) called a smorresbrod.

poor plumbing

the sink as well as the shower backed up with water during normal use. we showered in the morning and left shortly afterwards so didn't call for maintenance. otherwise clean hotel. also asked for an 0800 wake up call, didn't happen.

Pre cruise visit

Location quite good-central as are a number of other nearby hotels. Staff courteous and generally efficient. Attractive decor, relatively large rooms, bathrooms nice, beds very comfortable. Did not try restaurant as it was quite expensive-(only two night visit). No breakfast with room. Main problem was lack of airconditioning ( even though advertised) and room was quite hot causing difficulty sleeping. They couldn"t seem to do anything about this. There are thermostats but seemed inoperative.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Explore restaurants along the walking streets. Try to get input from locals or hotel staff as some areas are better for breakfast and some for dinner. (Copenhagen)

Perfect for in-transit hotel stay

Staff was very helpful. Our luggage arrived two days late and they helped us in our immediate needs and oriented us in our shopping needs the day before our cruise departure. That night the bags arrived and we were able to continue a normal vacation! Excellent breakfasts and restaurant service in the hotel!

Imperial Hotel Stay

The hotel is in a good location in terms of interesting places to walk. The main pedestrian streets are open a 5min walk, and other interesting neighborhoods are about 15mins. If you are taking public transportation to the outreaches of the city or to the next town the hotel is right across the street from the depot. Tivoli is beautiful at night, especially late November through December for Christmas. Tivoli was about a 3min walk from the hotel. If you are looking for a show or movie that is close as well, at less than 5min walk. I was able to find interesting bars and restaurants as close as 3mins away walking. The front desk staff was helpful, and usually had decent suggestions for where to shop or eat. I cannot comment on the quality of food or drink in the hotel, as it seemed odd to stay in the hotel when Copenhagen was waiting to be explored! For the night owls Copenhagen was a blast! I never had any issues finding a decent restaurant open for dinner around 10pm. Friday and Saturday nights are worth going out for, as the bars stay open until around 5am, and there is always a food vendor or Swarama (serves gyros, different pitas, etc) open.

Shopping tip: Not Applicable

All of the larger establishments (restaurants and stores) take international credit cards (the version that is swiped). However, Denmark uses a credit card with a pin number (something more similar to a debit card?). If you go to smaller stores or restaurants sometimes your only bet is cash. Fortunately there is a bank with outside ATMs, and a money exchange about 5mins down the street from the hotel.
