Great hotel with an unbeatable location

After our Baltic cruise we stayed two extra days at this hotel. Our room was very clean and large enough for all our luggage and was very comfortable with a large balcony. The staff was very friendly and answered our many questions without hesitation. I would highly recommend staying at the Imperial. It's location was close to most sights of interest to us.

Pleasantly suprised

This hotel has AC! The room I stayed in was on the top floor and had a terrace. The room was very modern and newly updated. High quality linens, soaps, and a very comfortable bed! It is quiet and great value!

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Being close to the train station in CPH is ideal. If you fly into Kastrup airport you can walk right on to the subway after bag collection. It takes 15 min to downtown CPH and 10 min walk to the hotel. Saves time and $$$.

Very pleased

The hotel is centrally located for many of the sightseeing activities. The staff was very polite and accommodating. If visiting Copenhagen is in my future plans I would definitely stay at the Imperial Hotel again.

Great Hotel!

Staff was very helpful and friendly. Rooms were good size, clean and the bathrooms were wonderful. The location was within walking distance to Tivoli Gardens and the City Hall Square where most sight seeing trips began. Overall a very nice place to stay!

A nice elegant hotel

I was in Copenhagen for leisure and sightseeing and the Imperial Hotel was ideal for the purpose because it is located very close to two train stations and within a walking distance to many city attractions. Trains in Copenhagen are similar to the Metro in other European capitals because they run every few minutes and you can buy a 10 ride card that can be used for everything: the metro, the trains and the buses. They have zones (up to nine) and if you buy smaller denimination cards (2-zone and 3-zone)you can punch any combination of the number of zones at the machine at the stations or on the buses(i.g 2+3=5, 2+2+3=7, etc.) That will save you between 40 and 60% of the ticket cost. My room was a bit small but very neat and tidy. The hotel staff at the reception were nice but not very helpful- they forgot to give me my wake-up call and did not know a lot about the various sights and destinations. If you need tourist information it will be much better to go to the Tourist Information Center accross the street from the main entrance to Tivoli (one block from the hotel). The information that you will find in the black folder in your room may be obsolete or incorrect, so check everything with the staff.

Shopping tip: Not Applicable

If you want to buy the excellent Danish glass and china go for the bigger stores - Royal Copenhagen, Jensen, Magazin, Illum, etc. The same things in smaller stores are higher priced and they do not give you the Tax Free forms for reimbursement of VAT at the airport (about 12%).

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

For an American, eating out in Copenhagen can be very expensive. About 3 blocks away from the Imperial is ChiliMilli a salad place with real value and healthy food that is very tasty and plentiful. Restaurant Ida Davidsen on the other hand is a very famous sandwich place where the eponymous owner operator may treat you like dirt and refuse to answer a reasonable question about the menu. You will pay around $20 for a small open faced sandwich (also tasty, admittedly) called a smorresbrod.

First-class spot for quick stopover

Imperial is a first-class hotel in a great location for a quick stopover in Copenhagen. It's a couple of minutes by foot from the train station and Tivoli Gardens, and across the street from a local train station (Vesterport) that connects to Metro. Train to the airport from the main station takes 12 minutes. The room and public areas are spotless verging on luxurious and have that clean Scandinavian look. Our room had twin beds pushed together (common in Europe); not sure if they have true double beds. Beds were very soft. A bit of a hike from the elevator to our room since the hotel is huge. Room had coffee maker, expensive minibar, fine bathroom except for the odd Euro half-door on the shower, which inevitably gets the floor wet and does not provide privacy. Staff was helpful with local directions. We got a package with Tivoli tickets and breakfast included. The breakfast buffet is very good but is insanely expensive if not included with the room. There are more picturesque parts of Copenhagen but for a quick stop at a decent price in this very expensive city, the Imperial is a find.

Have a meal before visiting Tivoli Gradens; all restaurants there are extremely expensive, and you can't leave and re-enter with your ticket.
