good location

Hotel is one block from the front of the Central Station - turn back in the direction the train came in from if you are coming from the airport. We unfortunately left the back of the station and had to walk down several blocks of cobblestone streets to find the hotel. The staff did provide us with a ferry brochure but directions were brief and incomplete. We did have a map so found our way ok on our own. They also loaned us a converter plug for our laptop. The room was small and there were 2 very small half bathrooms: one with small sink and toilet and the other was a tiled shower room with sink and a shower curtain to block water from ruining the door. The hotel was clean was probably very elegant in its time but could use a facelift.

Entertainment tip: Long walk from hotel

We had less than 24 hours stay in Copenhagen. We had about a 30 minute brisk walk to the Rosenburg Castle (beautiful jewels and crowns in basement and long hall upstairs) which closes at 4 then on to the round tower that closes at 5 which is a couple of blocks from the castle. On to the ferry which was about a .5 mile walk at 5 from which we saw the rest of the city neighborhoods, parliament buildings and the little mermaid. That night we went to Tivoli for the Halloween Fest where there was good shopping and restaurants as well as some fabulous outdoor stage shows - probably the best dancing I have ever seen. We ate at a Chinese buffet across the street that charged us 20 kroners each for tap water when the drink menu was not in English! Eat at Tivoli instead and be sure to ask if they charge for water at restaurants in Copenhagen. Also the little bakery a block down the street (turn right outside the door and right down the street) had fabulous pastries for breakfast.

Perfect location and a limit room

The hotel is at the heart of the city, next to the central train station and next to Tivoli. The breakfast is good, however the room is small and the bathroom is even smaller.

Maybe two stars

This hotel has a totally inaccurate perception of itself. The dumpiest 4 star...the smallest bathroom ever (and I've seen lots of small ones); tiny room, old and banged up furniture; electrical wiring pasted to the (very ugly) wall.

Okay Hotel

Stayed for one night in May. Received a free upgrade to a junior suite! Vesterbrogade is a busy street so street noise can be a issue. Breakfast was good. Very close to Copenhagen central station and Tivoli.

Smoker's delight

Location is great if you need to use trains or want to stroll the city center. I was also able to check in early without extra charge. But although the hotel claimed to be non-smoking, I ended up coming back home with suitcase full of cigarratte smoke-soaked cloathes and will pay a hefty dry-cleaning bill because of this. The smoke was especially bad in some of the evenings or at nights. When I complained and asked at least for airfreshner (I don't know if the hotel can pinpoint & 'catch' the smokers), I was brought a bottle of something that was to do the deed but turned out to be a window spray that I happily wetted my carpet and curtains with just to disguise the stench. In this battle against evil smells, I also ran out of my perfumes, so maybe the hotel could stock up on those in all guest rooms. Needless to say, I won't ever return. I had plenty of good feedback from colleagues of a new hotel called Wake Up.

Grand Hotel Copenhagen

This hotel was very centrally located to the main train station, Tivoli Gardens, a large visitor information center and Hop-On-Hop-Off sightseeing bus point. Knowing exactly how small our room was would have helped, and we would have then chosen a different type of room. The location & cleanliness, though, cannot be faulted. The management was not friendly nor unfriendly, just ho-hum.

I would buy the Copenhagen card again without question! It pays for itself with the train fare in from the airport and just a couple of sights, like Tivoli and a palace.

Decent hotel for big city europe

I would probably shop around before immediately taking this hotel again if in Copenhagen. Location is real good, but other hotels have this too. This had nice buffet breakfast for reasonable extra charge (reasonable for copenhagen). Room is small, but this is big city europe also.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

grab a pastry and juice or coffee at Stoget (famous walking street 10 minutes north of hotel) if you hope for a <$10 breakfast (that will cost you about $8 probably). Many beautiful gardens to see for free.

built in 1879...

Yes, it's built in 1879, and didn't much changed since... It's very basic hotel in the center of Copenhagen. Old building, small rooms, very old furniture not in the best shape, no AC (OK, it's Denmark, not Caribbean, but in Summer sometimes it's hot). Room has shower and toilet, there is TV and telephone; that's about it. Not even an alarm clock; for wake up call, you have to ask at reception, they put your request in the book, and then don't call anyway... Rooms are clean and made daily. It's acceptable place to spend a night or two, nothing more.
