Charming maritime hotel in the heart of the Danish capital

The Copenhagen Strand is superbly located in the heart of Copenhagen, overlooking Copenhagen Harbor, just a stone's throw away from Nyhavn, Amalienborg, and the Strøget shopping district. The hotel is housed in one of the original waterfront warehouses, which dates back to 1869. The old building has been beautifully and carefully restored. The decor has been kept rustic with a slightly maritime style, making it one of the city's most charming hotels.

I had a little single room at

I had a little single room at the end of a long corridor. It had two windows overlooking backyard where the dustbins were. The waste collectors came very early in the morning. They tried to work silently, but the vehicle was very noisy. Nevertheless, a nice stay in the hotel.

GREAT LOCATION

We arrived at about 11AM and were allowed to check in early. The hotel has a wonderful location in the Nyhaven district and is a short walk to many restaurants and Canal boat tours, which we took. Also an easy walk to Stroget (the pedestrian street) and a little further walk to Tivoli Gardens. Our room was quite small with a small double bed on the fifth (top or attic) floor of the hotel. We would go for twin beds next time as we are used to king size at home. We were thankful for the small balcony from which we could view two of the canals. When open, the balcony door cooled the room beautifully. Otherwise the room would have been very hot, as there was no AC. We were there in mid May and the weather was cool. However, the sun heated the room up even in cool weather, so I imagine the room would be quite uncomfortable in warm weather. The room was very clean, but the smallest hotel room we have every stayed in. As we did not spend much time there, the size did not matter. The bathroom was good size and very clean. We would stay there again in early spring, late fall or winter. However, not in warm or hot weather! The breakfast buffet was outstanding and plentiful and included both hot and cold items. Absolutely no negative comments there! The lobby also had free internet access so we could check on our flight home.

Good location

This was our first stay in Copenhagen. The Strand is a good location, just a few minutes walk from Nyhaven Street, with its famous canal and row of restaurants. Our room was very small, but clean and comfortable. We were on the top floor, and the slanted ceiling gave it a cozy feel. Also, we had a tiny balcony; since we traveled in July, leaving the balcony door open at night cooled off the room. But when it rained, we had to close it and the room was quite warm. There was a flood in town the day before we arrived, so breakfast arrangements were compromised. During our four day stay, there was no hot food, and no place to sit while eating. We brought our breakfast up to the room. Staff were very nice and accommodating.

Courteous and Professional Staff

The Strand Hotel is in an excellent location, within a few blocks of Nyhavn and the Kongens Nytorv Metro station. Rooms are small, but comfortable. Having breakfast included makes the hotel a good deal, because eating in restaurants in Copenhagen is quite a drain on the budget. During my stay (my second) there was a torrential downpour in Copenhagen, and many waterfront businesses experienced some flooding, the Strand included. I was impressed with how well the hotel staff made the best of an unfortunate situation, and still managed to feed us a very nice breakfast in the lobby next morning, even though the kitchen was still flooded.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Take the METRO to and from the airport, if you don't mind walking a few blocks. You'll save over $40 each way.

Warm Hospitality

Copenhagen Strand Hotel has an outstanding staff that is most helpful in answering my many questions about the city and offered suggestions on how to enjoy my time. They offer a wonderful breakfast before you head out for the day. Just around the coner is Nyhaven on the canal, a place to catch the guided tour boats and hop on hop off bus that will take you to every part of the city you want to visit. The weather was wet and overcast, but this did not deter enjoying the wonders of Copenhagen

Great Location!

This is a very nice hotel with a great location. You just walk a block and you are at the water in beautiful Nyhaven. The hotel room is small but clean and nice and has everything you need. The staff was very friendly. The Hop on Hop off bus has a stop just a couple blocks away. I would recommend this hotel. We stayed here the night before we left for a cruise and it was perfect!

great place to stay in Copenhagen

Copenhagen is a walkable, friendly city. We toured it by foot and also took a water cruise. This hotel was located in walking distance to most tourist sites and right near the center of restaurant and nightlife. Good value, very friendly staff. highly recommend it.

Good hotel at convenient location and excellent breakfast

Stayed at Strand hotel for three nights while on a short business trip to Copenhagen. Arrived early on Sunday morning after arriving from the US. Since it was weekend, the hotel was fully booked and no room was available immediately. As soon as guests started checking out, a room was cleaned and I was able to get in to my room at 11am. The (single) room was small, but large enough en had everything I needed. I was at the back side of the hotel, which was really quiet (although there was not much traffic at the front side of the hotel either) and allowed me to sleep with the window open. The location of the hotel is really convenient, just around the corner from Nye Havn (a major tourist attraction) and a 5 min walk from the metro station. The metro takes you in 15 - 20 minutes to the airport. Hotel gusests were a mixture of tourists and those on business. At the moment there is only wifi in the lobby of the hotel, but they provide cables so you can connect your lap top in the room, and they are currently installing wifi on all the floors. the best part is probably the breakfast, which is included in the price. Freshly baked bread rolls, croissants and of course Danish pastries!

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

The hotel is close to Nye Havn, where you will find many restaurants, but which is rather touristy. Copenhagen is also home to many high-end restaurants (some with Michelin stars) which are worth while trying.
