Staying in Prague!

This hotel has a great breakfast, friendly staff, and it is located close to Charles Bridge in Prague. You have to park your car at a parking place 10-15 minute walk from the hotel for an extra fee... but this is how Prague is- can't blame the hotel. Once you are in the city, you can walk everywhere you need to go. I would stay here again.

Huge room for reasonable price

Romm was stylish, old fashion, but this is what we expected but clean and huge!!! Actually two rooms, two baths, 6 people could easily sleep there. Almost half of the floor. Location perfect, close to the castle, nice walking to the old town. Breakfast perfect, not what is called in america a continental breakfast. Nice people, will store your luggage if you leave in the evening and I think they are even surprised when you tip them. Good english, free internet, even minibar reasonably priced. Really good value.

Planty of dining in short distance for $15-20. Of course you can eat pizza for $2 (one slice), if you prefer. Avoid taxis from a stand as they will try to drive you around the city 5 times.

With its proximity to the castle and neighboring Wallenstein Palace (seat of the Senate, with a beautiful garden in which white and regular pheasants parade) Hotel Waldstein is in a great location, though does not offer views. However, my enthusiasm took a dive when I was shown my room, which was on the ground level, with the three windows of the room facing the small courtyard (access to all rooms) and in which there stood three tables where people sat down to chat and smoke and the staff folded laundry. When sitting at the tiny desk in my room, the people in the courtyard were literally no more than 3-6 feet away from me, and because opening the windows was the only way to aerate the room, all smoke and talk entered my room unfiltered. The courtyard further echoed and amplified the sound of slamming doors (and a lot of people did slam the doors), and the sound of people walking up and down the old, creaking wooden stairs (nothing for light sleepers...). At least there was no street noise, and once everyone was asleep, it was quiet. Further, my room was the shape of a narrow tube, with the two narrow and squeaky, low-quality beds aligned longitudinally; over one of the beds hang a large portrait of Maria, over the other a large portrait of skywards gazing, bleeding Jesus wearing a crown of thorns. At night, the light of the lamps in the courtyard would shine through the semi-transparent curtains and unfiltered light would hit the bed (or the face of a person lying on it), due to a gap between the curtains and the window sill - the curtains were just a few inches too short. On the bright side, the room did offer a water cooker, together with instant coffee and tea bags. But the TV remote control was missing the batteries, and the free WiFi, advertised as high speed internet service, was so slow that if trying to watch a clip over the internet, it would be interrupted every few seconds. The bathroom and cleaning service were fine and the staff was friendly. There are likely nicer rooms available in Hotel Waldstein, than the one I received, [...]. When I asked for another room, I was told verbatim that there was only one other available, which is even worse. For breakfast, sliced breads and rolls, butter and jam, plain and fruit yoghurts, canned fruit, cake, scrambled eggs, sausages, canned beans, drip coffee and hot water for tea were served in the quiet nice cellar. Overall, hotel Waldstein offers amenities and services equivalent of a 2 star hotel in the US.Since I never felt rested in the morning, I will definitely not return to Hotel Waldstein, but I do hope to return many more times to the exceptionally beautiful city of Prague, which has so much to offer.

Excellent Choice!

We enjoyed being within walking distance of all the major sights in Prague. The hotel was quiet and quaint. Hotel staff were very accomodating (even helped us carry our luggage up three flights of stairs). It was the perfect get away! Internet access is in the hotel lobby only.

Great stay

We had booked 2 hotel rooms for 2 separate couples, or so we thought-- We had made an error when booking and entered the information wrong (A total of 2 travelers rather than 2 travelers per ROOM), and when we arrived they had two rooms reserved for us, but each only had a twin bed! The front desk staff person was very friendly and accomodating-- she made a bunch of calls, re-arranged some things, and when we returned from a walk around Prague we had two rooms with full beds. Seeing as it was our error, we were so appreciative of their willingness to help! The location of the Waldstein is great for walking every where in the city, and the rooms were small but clean. Nothing fancy at all, but since we were literally only in our room to sleep and shower, it was perfect for our purposes. Also, the breakfast included in the morning was basic but very good, and had enough choices to please every one. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Prague!

Sightseeing tip: Not Applicable

As many people I'm sure find out when they research a trip to the Czech Republic, the "tourist season" starts April 1st. So, if you go in March, you won't be able to access the insides of many of the beautiful castles and palaces outside of Prague!

Simply wonderful

Our experience at The Waldstein was wonderful. The hotel has an Old World charm with lovely antique furniture and ceilings that have archways. Our room was comfortable and well heated, a necessity for February in Prague. The staff persons were all friendly and polite as well as helpful. The location could not have been better. It was an easy walk to The Charles Bridge, Old Town Square with The Astronomical Clock and to Prague Castle. It was convenient to walk to a tram or metro for any longer distances and the tram took us right to the train station where it was simple to catch a train for day trips. Having breakfast each morning in the hotel was a convenient way to start the day. The food was always plentiful and I really liked the fresh breads. Prague in February is very beautiful, with a light dusting of snow and the sights are not too packed with tourists. The city seems like some place magical from a fairytale. We also enjoyed eating at the various Czech restaurants and found the food nice and hearty for a winter meal as well as delicious. I would definitly recommend the Waldstein to any one traveling to Prague that enjoys the feel of a smaller boutique hotel that feels like you are visiting another part of our world.

Cozy hotel

The hotel was beautiful. Our room was huge for what we paid. Our only problem was finding the hotel. We drove to Prague, which was not on our GPS =( and had a very difficult time finding our way around the city. We hired a cab to show us where the hotel was and we were good from there. Charles Bridge was very close just a 5 minute walk away. Staff was great! They exchange your currency to the local currency with no commission =)
