VERY well kept hotel...very clean
The Galileo is a very well run and maintained hotel, and the complementary breakfast was prefect (fruit was fresh, and the ... hot food was kept hot). The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our only suggestion, is to be sure to bring ear plugs, because sound does carry in this hotel. Luckily my wife and I had extra ear plugs. The first night (without our ear plugs in) we must of woken up 6 times (noise in the halls). The rooms and bathrooms were spotless...you can eat off the floor at this place. Just too bad about how sound carries there. ALSO....we found the neighborhood to be safe, even at night...and there are a couple of great bars that served GREAT food, very close to the Galileo, esp. the one right across the street.

Go across the street....very authentic Czeck food, and of course, great beer of tap.

If you will be taking more than 4 tram/bus/metro rides per day it's less to buy the daily pass (100kc). Don't buy a 3-day pass, for some unknown reason it's more than three single days (a 5 day pass is 500kc).

Overnight stay in Prague
Very nice and picturesque hotel situated in Prague 2. We just stayed one night there and we were given room 304 which was ... lovely and very large. The staff was helpful and friendly. The historic part of the city is within a 15 minute walk but there's a metro station (5 minute walk) near the hotel. We definitely recommend this hotel. Last but not least the buffet for breakfast is just wonderful!

Galileo Hotel in Prague
The Galileo has clean, nice sized rooms. Our rate included breakfast which was a nice selection of fruits, breads, cereal, ... meats and eggs. It's next door to a wine bar and just a few doors down is pizza and coffee. The #6 tram is closest to the hotel, just on the corner. The #22 is about 2 blocks away, but runs more frequently between downtown and back. The metro is also about 2 blocks away.

Great hotel in quiet neighborhood
Lovely, modern hotel within easy walking distance of tram and metro stops. The Galileo was clean, comfortable, and had a ... wonderful breakfast buffet every morning. The staff worked very hard to make our stay easy and enjoyable. They were willing to help out with travel plans, recommendations, calling taxis - whatever we needed. The hotel's location was perfect for us. It is located away from the hustle and noise of the more touristy areas, but it was easy to access everything from the trams and metros. Some of our favorite restaurants in all of Prague were right there in the same neighborhood as the hotel! There's also a little market and a drug store right around the corner. A pool and/or hot tub would've been nice, but that was the only thing we missed. Great hotel!

for 100 czk ($5) you can get a 24 hour pass at the metro station which applies for the buses, trams, and metros. It's effective the first time you get on their transportation and have it stamped.

Above and Beyond Service at Galileo
Although Hotel Galileo is not rated a 5 star Hotel, the service by the attendants (4 out of 5) was above a 5 star rating. As ... a New Yorker, tri-lingual female solo traveler traveling thoughout Europe on a budget, I was slightly initially intimidated by traveling alone in Prague especially with the threat of pick-pockets and the known necessity of having to haggle with the taxi drivers, and the Czech language of which I had no knowledge and was very distinct from the languages I did know. The first attendant who wears many hats put me at ease and was very honest and knowledgeable. The first wonderful thing she did was tell me about the free tour that Hotels Prague offers from the Hotel Ceasar (100 k by taxi = 5.5 US Dollars from IP Pavlova)Hint:Get taxi on street and haggle, not from hotel. The tour was free from 10-12 noon and then from 2-4pm. There was an optional boat ride with a nice lunch included that was optional for 700 K. I took the 2 hour boat ride and it was the best deal going because it was slightly cheaper than the other offers in the handbooks, plus it included Magdelena, our Czech tour guide, whose English was very good and she was very knowledgeable guiding us for approx. 1.5 hours of the ride telling us what we were seeing which other tours did not include. I was the only person from my hotel. It was a pity because it was truly great, and I was on a teacher budget after having been in Switzerland and Austria. The tour is not offered every day, but you should ask when you arrive. (I think it is offered Wed/Fri/Sat/Sun). She recommended some restaurants including Ambiente Brasilero (did not get to eat there) and said that La Pizzeria Romantica had very good and affordable food. She was right. I had a glass of wine, a half salad (which was big)and a pasta with chicken dish plus tip for approx. 240 k which equals approx. $13 US. Because of that tour, the next day I ventured out of the city center on my own and another nice Czech attendant helped me plan my solo trip by train to Kutna Hura and then Kaldstejn Castle. I wanted to see as much as possible in my short stay and taking both tours with a tour company would have meant I didn't see the other sight. Kutna Hura cost 171k roundtrip to Prague by train (roundtrip is cheaper) and 87K round trip to Kaldstejn Castle plus the entrance. If I had taken a tour for each it would have cost about 900-950k each tour and I would have missed one. She was great and printed the schedules for me so I could make connections and know available trains and when the last trains were leaving each city. 1 of the 5 attendants was moody and just average, but I won't say another word because everyone else was superb. The best service I have ever experienced, and I have stayed at 5 star hotels such as the Villa de Este in Lake Como, Sorrento, Nice, Barcelona,etc...was when the managing attendant had the other attendant accompany me to translate at the Post office to mail a 5 kg package to the USA to avoid major fines on Swiss Air per kilo. I could never have done it alone with the language barrier. This is by far the nicest thing a front desk attendant/concierge attendant has ever done for me. She left the property and spent almost a 1/2 hour with me figuring it all out. So although the seating area needs a little work to be more welcoming and at a higher level, and the bar is off to the side and almost not even noticeable and uninviting to guests, is IRRELEVENT in the big scheme of things. These nice attendants made me feel safe, put my fears at bay, and made my experience in Prague incredible. They even told me how to get to the airport for 26k which equals approx $1.75. (1 subway (green line)and 1 bus ride (bus 119) totaling about 45 minutes including walk to station and bus transfer. I hope this helps you enjoy Prague too!

Clean and comfortable
The hotel is spotlessly clean with contemporary Italian-style tiles and decor. There is no carpeting in the rooms, which was ... fine with us but some people might find sterile. The breakfast room is pleasant, food good and plentiful. The hotel is about one mile from Prague's central Old Town / tourist district in a quiet residental neighborhood with many restaurants, pubs and shops nearby. It is walkable, but the metro and tram stops are just three blocks away. Tram line 22 will take you directly to Prague Castle with great views of the city. Just be aware that if you are accustomed to certain American chain hotel amenities like facecloths, extra soap or shampoo, you may be disappointed. The wi-fi in our room didn't work but we were given an ethernet cable which provided excellent Internet service. The staff were uniformly polite and [...] in particular was most helpful and charming. He will gladly help you book tours and suggest activities. We wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Galileo if we visit this amazing city again.

Big room, good location
The most welcoming features of the hotel were 1) the room- we had a living + bedroom, with a pull out sofa and crib! For 2 ... kids under 5, it was perfect. Better yet, the curtains REALLY blocked out the light, so the kids slept in! 2) Air Conditioning. For a budget hotel, it was great to have AC. The price was just right, coming in just under $100 USD- really reasonable for such a nice room. We were also a 5 minute walk to the underground, and then 5 minutes on the subway to all the major sights. The only negative- no parking- even on the street- nearby. They gave us a parking space in a sister hotel 2 KM away, which was OK, but logistically created an issue (and it was pricey at about $30 / day- an unexpected charge).

Awesome Staff and Unbelievable Rooms !
First thing you notice is the staff is prepared for you. Second thing you notice is how BIG the rooms are compared with most ... all other european standards. The last thing you, or anyone on vacation, would ever notice is the small TV in the room. I enjoyed myself very much and with three first class restaurants at one corner intersection you never have to ask what's for dinner. At the other end of the block of this hotel is a busy street where a drug store is located available with any products confiscated by customs. Also FYI there is a local post office just two blocks away. I truly don't have anything bad to report about this place! The distance to the nearest tram is very short and my best advice is to buy a two or three day pass because the areas topographic location is very hilly with lots of ups and downs that do get tiresome.
Traveler type: Single
Buy a couple of days worth of unlimited passes because you'll definately need them. Although the local attractions may first appear at a great distance, using the tram and subway system is a snap and much easier. Also don't go somewhere else and buy internet use - the hotel provides this for free! The local post office is two blocks up on the upside of the hill surrounded by a blue fence for sending post cards.

Good base to explore Prague
The Galileo Hotel is a clean and comfortable hotel. The staff are friendly, but I think the language barrier causes some ... problems when you want in depth help with finding your way around. The rooms are not best looking I've seen, but they're clean and well heated which is very important during Christmas in Prague. The breakfast is the best thing about the hotel.
