Regent Esplanade

The hotel is perfect for train travel since it is almost across from the train station. It is a beautiful hotel (only 5 star hotel in Zagreb) with old atmosphere but very new and up to date amenities and bathrooms. Very high class! It is a 10 minute walk to the city center and all tourist locations or a 2 stop tram. You can obtain a tram in front of the train station (2 minute walk) for less than a dollar to go to the city center. Everyone speaks English at the hotel and are very helpful. Many very very important people stay and have stayed here, it also use to be the hotel that the passenger.

Nice hotel, if you can get a deal

Its five star rating will disappoint Westerners. A hike to the upper city. We stayed because we went off season, and wanted a hotel right next to train station. Breakfast extremely expensive, even by U.S. standards.

Perfection!

I arrived in Zagreb just as it began to rain torrentially. Normally this would have been disappointing, but the lobby bar was so gorgeous I spent several very pleasant hours writing postcards and sipping coffee. When I finally decided to venture out, the concierge provided me with a huge umbrella and a map, having identified the sights of the town as well as the locations of a few places I needed to visit. The hotel has the elegance of a very grand hotel, but the intimacy of a tiny boutique hotel.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Visit bustling Dolac market; then go and sit outside and have a coffee in one of the many cafes along Tkalciceva. Even if the weather is chilly, bundle up and sit outside - that's what the locals do.

Perfect hotel for Zagreb!

This is an outstanding luxury hotel, ideally situated for seeing Zagreb attractions. The historic property is beautifully and subtly appointed. Most important, it has first-rate friendly, enthusiastic, and efficient service--something we did not always find at our other luxury hotels in Croatia. We loved dining on the terrace overlooking an adjacent park. The hotel restaurant gave us a wonderful gourmet dinner of contemporary Croatian cuisine and excellent breakfasts from a full buffet table. We only regretted we didn't eat more dinners there as it was our best food in Zagreb. Car valet service was most prompt as was check-out. All questions about touring were thoughtfully and thoroughly answered. After driving through Croatia, we decided to spend our last night again at the Regent Esplanade. This is a hotel that has carefully considered every detail to make a stay absolutely first-rate for their guests. Would that they were all like this! I loved it.

What a hotel!

After being on a sail boat for a week - was so pleasantly surprised at the size of the room and especially the bathroom. Not the typical European small - definitely luxury.

A genuine 5-star hotel at a reasonable

A genuine 5-star hotel at a reasonable price. The location is ideally located for the railway station, albeit around a kilometre (10-15 minute walk or hop on a tram) from the main square. Restaurants better than expected. Would use again.

Beautiful Hotel and a relaxing night

I had a 10-hour layover at Zagreb airport between flights. I decided to get a comfortable room at a nice hotel so that I could have a good night's sleep and a good meal between my flights. The Regent Esplanade more than met my expectations. I was actually sorry I didn't have longer to spend there, because the decor, the staff, the food, and service was all impecable. Even though I arrived to he hotel late, I was able to eat in their best restaurant, Zinfandel's, which is open until 11 pm. I told the front desk about my flight situation when I checked in and they arranged a wake-up call and taxi for me and recommended times for each to make sure I wouldn't miss my flight. The room (classified as a "superior" room at booking) was large, comfortable and well-decorated, with a separate seating area, desk, king size bed, and very large bathroom with double sink and separate tub and shower. The shower is a rain shower type. My only criticism of the room is that the drain for the shower was slow. There was good wireless Internet access in the rooms for no additional charge. Finally, the hotel was an excellent value, being superlative in every respect, but costing less than a 3-star hotel might cost in most major cities.

Dining tip: In Hotel

Dinner at Zinfandel's, one of the hotel's restaurants, was delicious and a good value. This was a delicious and interesting meal at the type of restaurant that would have easily cost twice as much per person in New York.

Simply perfect - incredible

Perfect in every way. Staff is unobtrusive yet very skilled in providing anything and everything a guest might want. Our rooms were huge and well appointed, lobby is reminiscent of the Austo-Hungarian splendor, and cuisine is amazing. For instance the breakfast buffet was the best we'd ever had. I have no reservations about recommending this hotel.
