The hotel offers various options for holidays and recreation at one of the most beautiful locations on the Mediterranean. Congresses and incentives along with wellness programmers is something that is famous for. Croatia Hotel lies in an exceptionally beautiful position and secluded location on a peninsula overlooking the Adriatic on one side and the picturesque old town of Cavtat on the other. The world famous medieval walled city of Dubrovnik can be seen from some hotel terraces.

Hotel Croatia Cavtat

Overall a good 4* start hotel, definitely not a 5*. Sea view room is a must if you are intending to stay at this hotel. The view is superb. I found the breakfast disappointing, although there was quite a variety, to me it wasn't very appealing or tasteful. The staff were helpful enough but I couldn't really warm to them. The steps from Cavtat up to the hotel would be a challenge for those that are not reasonably fit but I do believe they offer a transport service. All in all I would stay here again but I wouldn't like to think what it would be like in high season trying to get a sun bed as it is a big hotel.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

Taverna Domizana was an excellent place to eat. Although most places in Cavtat are good, the service and quality of the food at this place was excellent. Other small tips:- there are loads of cats everywhere and the locals smoke freely including in most public places.

Too many people. Not enough space.

As many have said, this is not a 5 star hotel by normal standards. In fact, I 'm not sure it's possible to maintain 5 star standards in a hotel this large. We were there in mid August, so of course, the hotel was rammed. One morning, I had a quick tot up of the number of people eating breakfast on the terrace at 9 am. Something like 300, with more than that inside. It's no surprise that the food was institutional and the staff gave the impression of being under siege. We never ate dinner in the restaurant, always eating out in Cavtat or Dubrovnik. We were given a "superior sea view" room on the 3rd floor, which had a great view of the roof of the floor below, with the sea beyond that. I went back to the front desk, complained that that didn't constitute a superior sea view, and was told that it was "just words". After an "I'd like to see the manager" escalation, they arranged to move us to a room with a view of the sea the following day, as the hotel was full. This was on the 9th floor, and did have an uninterrupted view of the sea, but made us reliant on the 3 tiny, cramped and overworked lifts. This was a hotel operating at maximum capacity. The sunbed saga referred to by other reviews continues. We had a view of the rocks, and every space there was reserved with a towel by 8am every morning. Often the spaces were empty for 3 hours at a time. There are signs up saying you can't do it, and that staff will remove personal items after 30 minutes, but in reality, they don't monitor it, and the only way to get a space is to move stuff yourself and deal with the consequences when the reservisst finally turn up. The stairs down to the Spinaker sunbed area and the village are hard work, but we all came home fitter. There is a shuttle service, but once again, I was slightly disappointed to be told that it didn't run all the time at peak hours, and that we should call the hotel from our mobile at the bottom, and they would send the golf buggy. This was after I'd walked up, leaving the wife & kids plus about 10 others sitting at the pick up point at 9 pm when everyone is heading back to the hotel from the village. Cavtat itself is great. Lots of atmosphere, great restaurants, and the sea is beautiful. There are lots of villas and apartments to rent if you don't want the big hotel experience.

We ate at Bugenvila in Cavtat twice. The best food in town by some distance. Reasonably priced, but you'll need to reserve a table a couple of days ahead.

Excellent hotel

In many ways, this is a strange hotel. Cavtat is a small, but very pretty waterside village, better than any other we saw, and the Hotel is perched high amongst the trees overlooking the bay, so it had great views. The hotel is largely unseen, which is just as well, as it is very big and could easily be out of scale for its location. Architecturally, I don't feel that the hotel is particularly beautiful, with a slightly dated feel about it, but inside the facilities are excellent, although lacking activities in wet weather. This was very inclement whilst we were there, and we were told that their season doesn't really start until June. Understandably, due to term time, there were very few children around , but I feel that there should be a more activities for them if the weather is bad, although there are two excellent swimming pools indoors and outdoors to keep them occupied. Despite being a very large hotel, it is strange that you never really seem to see many people around, other than at meal times. I don't know where they all go to! The meals in the main Dining Room are OK-ish. The starters and dessert courses are good with plenty of variety, but the Main Courses are of variable standard. One of the big issues for many, is the steep access from the waterside walk to the village with attractive shops and restaurants. We counted 126 steps, which tested the fitness, although the hotel did provide a car or golf buggy if you rang reception. Many restaurants did this for you which was very good. We hired a car, which was handy during the cloudy days. We went into Debrovnik and Montenegro which was worth doing, but it was more enjoyable to visit the old part of the City by ferry, provided that the weather was good, and there were no cruise ships in town. We were lucky, but others said it was desperately crowded when two or three ships were in town. We also enjoyed a boat trip to three islands which took the best part of a day, and drove to Montenegro. The border control can be a bit of a pain, and the first part of Montenegro is frankly rather run down. However stick with it, and you will be rewarded with a nice trip to Kotor. A word of caution though. We met others who had booked this coach trip through the hotel and apart from being a very long day, they thought it was extremely poor value for the money. All in all, an excellent hotel and friendly staff, and a lovely village and nice walks.

Check out excursions, some better than others, and avoid Dubrovnik when the Cruise Ships are in town.

SUPER LOCATION, SUPERB VIEWS, BUT CAN DO BETTER!

BEAUTIFUL LOCATION WITH WONDERFUL VIEWS. ROOMS NICE AND MODERN. LOVELY BAY AREA 5 MINS WALK AWAY WITH LOCALLY OWNED AND VERY NICE RESTAURANTS AND BARS (NOT TOO MANY WHICH WAS NICE AND THUS KEPT ITS QUALITY FEEL) SUPER VIEWS ACROSS THE BAY TO DUBROVNIK WHICH IS EASILY ACCESSIBLE. A LOVELY PLACE TO VISIT AND UNWIND! DOWNSIDES ARE POOL IS VERY COLD AT HOTEL, BREAKFAST SERVICE IS A SHAMBLES, ROOM TV CHOICE IS POOR, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A ROOM ON RECEPTION LEVEL OR ABOVE (SEA VIEW), AND DONT EXPECT GOOD 5 STAR REALLY FRIENDLY AND WELCOMING SERVICE IN THE HOTEL AS THEY ARE RATHER LACKING IN THIS FACET OF BUSINESS OFFERING. ALL IN ALL THOUGH A LOVELY PLACE TO VISIT AND WOULD RECOMMEND A TRIP

The perfect break away for a discerning couple

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Cavtat, at the Hotel Croatia. The hotel nestles amongst the pines on a hill, and looks out to the front across one of the pretty village's bays/harbours where most of the bars and restaurants are located, while the back looks out across the Adriatic Sea. Our room was located on the 5th floor, was tastefully furnished and decorated, impressively comfortable and kept spotlessly clean throughout our stay. It featured a spacious balcony overlooking the Adriatic, from which we had an excellent view of the sea and the swallows flitting back and forth. The hotel's facilities were excellent - two lovely pools, a friendly bar and two restaurants, all with inside and outside seating areas. The breakfast buffet selection was extensive, offering something for everyone. The steaks we ate in the hotel's steakhouse restaurant were the best we've ever tasted (the steaks we had in the restaurant beside the play park in Cavtat were similarly delicious), although the hotel's steakhouse did lack ambiance. We walked down the hill to Cavtat each day and then back up the steps to the hotel afterwards, which is do-able if you're reasonably fit. I believe the hotel has other transport options available for those less able. We felt thrilled that we'd chosen to base ourselves at Cavtat, which is such a pretty and charming village located beneath a very striking range of hills. There are interesting coastal walks to be had from the hotel to the far end of the village, and do take a boat trip to Dubrovnik and do the City Walls walk - most enjoyable and worthwhile. The return bus journey was comfortable and reasonably priced. There is a supermarket in town, very handy for fresh-baked bread, cheese and local wine for lunch! We found a very nice, drinkable red for around 20 kuna (about £2.50 - has a ship on the label). The only issue we experienced was that the safe in our room didn't work - we reported this straight away and a workman came to look, but couldn't fix it. He implied he would return the following day with a part, but this didn't happen before our visit came to an end, so we only had the option of using the safe in reception. Our verdict: Fabulous hotel, charming resort, excellent value, returned home fully recharged and refreshed. Highly recommended!

Great to get away from it all

A great place to be for a long weekend away. The hotel is not far from Dubrovnik, away from the densely tourist area, but close enough for a short bus ride to the historic and buzzing city. Beach space is at a premium, but that is the case all the way along the coast. The sea facing rooms gave a really good view of the sunset every evening. The village of Cavtat is 10 min walk with a selection of good restaurants, be prepared for steep climb back to the hotel, or wait for the buggy. The hotel had entertainment most evenings but we found our own in the village.

Great location, lovely hotel

The hotel was perfectly positioned with good facilities, friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere. The sea view room was worth the extra cost and the views were stunning. One or two minor niggles but nothing to put me off going there again. A great stay!
