our first trip to Costa Rica

It might be our fault but we were expecting more access to food, drinks and shuttles. It is a lodge of the main roads so yes you are there for quite, to relax, and not expect action. The staff was nice but very casual, easy going. They are not available all the time and do not expect room service.Be happy with the laid back and also the same breakfast every morning.

Absolutely perfect!

My family of 6 stayed here and could not have had a better time. It was remote and quiet, yet close to beautiful beaches and fun activities. The owner and staff were nothing but delightful and the food was fantastic. If you are looking for a special experience away from it all, no bells or whistles, this is it.

El Sabanero Eco Lodge

Great owner and good staff. Cleanliness of room could have been improved. Bugs, ants and cobwebs were common. Breakfast showed little imagination. Day to day the same and we were there 8 days. Setting is very nice, but, wow, difficult to find and nealy impossible at night. A good sign on the hill, if you know it's there, but no signage leading up to the location.

Authentic Costa Rica

El Sabanero is for those seeking refuge from the masses and hype of the 21st century. The individual cabana styled rooms are simple, and are graced by porches overlooking the valley. The grounds, pool and open air dining are naturally lovely. The staff works hard to accommodate the needs of all visitors, truly wanting you to experience,Pura Vida.

Once Again - A Wonderful Stay

This has been our fourth visit to El Sabanero in three years, and every time we think it could not get any better, but [...] and [...], our hosts again proved us wrong. The personal hospitality offered was beyond exceptional and the interaction among the guests throughout the day and evening make this stay an unforgettable experience. The cabinas are roomy and comfortable, the breakfast, whether it be the complimentary continental or the low priced cooked offerings are plentiful and tasty. The hosts offer personalized shuttles in the morning and afternoon to the local beaches which are only a 20 minute drive from the lodge only to come back to perfectly cooked meals of fresh seafoods and meats. Sitting poolside, be it over your morning coffee, during the sunny days or with your after dinner drink, you are taken away to another world with the views of the foothills betond the infinity pool. Activities are only a short drive away and they include horseback riding, zip lining, ATV tours or more extensive tours through the national parks and forests. Beach time can include trips to Tamarindo, Avallanas, and Negro, with Playa Falmingo being just a bit farther north. All offer wonderful food and drink on the beach and the surfing is awesome. We are already planning our next trip to Costa Rica and our stay would not be anywhere else than El Sabanero.

Book early, especially if you are renting a vehicle since the availability is limited and you would want to take day trips beyond the local area to get the true Tica experience.
