Royal Dutch Hotel and Casino

You will not be disappointed with the quality of this hotel. It doesn't look like much and the location is right in the center of this busy city, but the place is clean, the rooms are large, and it's centrally located. The staff and managers are very friendly and helpful though not everyone speaks English which is of course to be expected. The complimentary breakfast is great, and the casino and nightclub downstairs well worth visiting if you enjoy watching great dance performances. It's also a great jump-off point if you only want to do a day or two in San Jose and then explore other regions since the bus stop is just a few blocks away. I stayed over 2 weeks and would definitely return.

Phone Long distance in the room is provided by phone co. with several names as BBG out in Luxemburg OR Costa Rica telephone etc. etc. IT IS SCAM : Two calls did not go through and was charge approx $ 50 dollars ON MY CARD Waiting for back credit.

Read that name of this hotel and bear that in mind when making your decision. This place is a Casino/Bar first and a hotel second. The Casino is on the first floor, the bar is on the second with guest rooms on floors 4-6. I was on the fourth floor and when the bar was in full swing, you couldn't escape the music and noise. I can only imagine what it was like for the guests on the third floor. It was well priced and located right in the middle of downtown, but I'm not sure I would stay there again. My room was clean enough, but some of the stories I heard from guests in other rooms were not so positive.

The disco in the hotel is so loud that a person can't sleep until they shut down at 2:00am. The food is mediocre at best.

The price was cheap and for a reason. It is located in the heart of downtown San Jose which was cool during the day but pretty sketchy at night. There is a nightclub on the 2nd floor so it is kind of loud. Found out that most people use this hotel to bring back some ladies of the night for some fun.

On arrival, elevator was broken, second night, toilet problem - then Tv - then wireless - then nightly reverberations from 2nd floor all night long. I was on 4th - the non-smoking floor - everywhere else was smoking. Saving grace was price and reception and wait staff. Zip for amenities, although included breakfast was either fruit or rice, beans, and eggs. The latter was tasty. Probably could not expect much different for price and I can laugh about it. Real San Jose!

The hotel looks nothing like the pictures. The hotel is musty, smelly, and very noisy. There is a lot of traffic noise coming from the outside. I visualized a much different hotel when I made the reservation. The picture makes it seems like this is a large hotel building cover a whole block and with good amenities. The hotel look run-down.

Pros: Located in the heart of the city. Decent price. Room was clean. There is a safe in the room to lock your stuff. There were no "ladies of the night" in the hotel like other reviews have said. I didn't have any problems checking in (I checked in twice, once at the beginning of my trip and once at the end). Breakfast in the morning was simple but good. Cons: There is a dance floor on the 2nd floor. If you are on the 3rd floor you will hear the music all night long. 4th floor isn't as bad, but there's no WiFi. 5th floor has both WiFi and no noise.
