Ok but not 4 star in western terms

Not much of interest around the hotel. Room spacious, but otherwise ordinary. Bathroom needs serious updating. No real casino. Staff helpful. Bar and restaurant part of lobby. Breakfast not very good.

    Very good and not so......

We came in one day early and they were very accomodating finding us a room without a reservation. This was a nice standard room, quiet, clean and neat. The room I had reserved for the following night was a junior suite. It had a bit of a view of the city since it was on the top floor, but it was noisy, hot tub not functional, not comfortable.

Clean room, comfortable beds, and friendly service

We stayed at the Presidente Monday evening. The location of this hotel is perfect. You can step outside onto a pedestrian mall and walk to the Gold Museum, the National Theater, the Market, and much more. Breakfast was included with delicious food and coffee. I would recommend staying here. And you have hot water.....

    Great experience

The hotel and staff are wonderful. It is located on a pedestrian walking street, no cars, which is wonderful for exploring the city. But it did make it harder to locate when we were driving in. Also, the streets are not marked so you will need to look for landmarks and count blocks. Get directions from the hotel before attempting to find the location yourself.

    Centrally located

I chose the hotel because it was centrally located and we could see and do a lot of things in the afternoon we were in San Jose. They are renovating the lobby area and when they are done it will be a perfect downtown location, on the corner, having a coffee or a meal watching people walk by (it is in a pedestrian zone). Right now they have the restaurant and bar opposite the reception area and it does quite well. What is really great is that they have airport transportation which is only 25US Dollars.

    Diamond In the Rough

El Presidente really surpassed all my expectations. From the outside the hotel does not look like much but once you go inside absolutely beautiful. The daytime staff were truly amazing, especially "Jorge" who always greeted us with a smile. Thank you soo much El Presidente for an AMAZING Visit. Pros 1. Beautiful cozy room….that provided my daughter and I with a great nights rest. 2. Staff was excellent in helping my daughter and I figure out which tours would be best for us to take. 3. Tour desk was amazing 4. Loved the tiled room floors 5. Needed internet service to work in my room and the day time staff was kind enough to bring a router up to my room so that I could not have consistent service without interruption. 6. Breakfast buffet was excellent…each morning… Cons 1. Night time staff horrible and ( at the bar - pregnant barmaid and the her counterpart) - extremely rude…took over 20 minutes to provide us with menus, the waiter decided to disappear as soon as he saw us sit down and did not appear until it was time to settle the bill. It took another 30 minutes for her to come back and take our order and hour for the food to be served, by this time the food was COLD. The entire dinner took an unnecessary 3 hours. When we questioned a charge on the bill….she snatched the receipt from my hand, spouted something in Spanish to the waiter. I never ate dinner there my entire stay. It seemed when the day staff would leave, so would the staff's hospitality. 2. There are no peep holes on the room doors. Ladies traveling alone in a different country and someone knocking on your door and not being able to see who it was, was a little unnerving. 3. Beautiful but tight bathroom…the door opened up to the right where the sink was, so you had to brush up against the toilet to get in and close the door if you wanted to use the sink.

I setup private tours while in America and group tour through the hotel...It is definitely CHEAPER to wait to until you get in the country and set up your tours through the hotel....it is a great savings, plus the tour company they use are AMAZING

Go for walk and eat at little corner restaurants. A whole meal "casado" for 2000 colones($4) . Rice, beans, meat, plantains, and a drink. They may not look fancy but they sure are good.
