    Nice hotel...not so nice area

Hotel itself was beautiful, but our room was not and the surrounding city of San Jose is not a very good area. Our "view" was the internal fire escape and smelled musty. There was no tub for the shower, just a small raise in the floor in the bathroom so when we showered, it leaked all the way out of the bathroom to the bed!! The description said there was a pool, but there wasn't. The food was excellent, we ordered dinner from room service (quesadilla & pepper steak) and we ate in the restaurant for breakfast (loved the coffee). Hotel felt secure since there was a "guard" at the entrances and the parking lot (what little one there was) was gated.

    Helpful staff, terrible location

Other than the room and the restaurant, I did not see any other amenities at this hotel. There is an unpleasant casino connected to the hotel, but guests hardly know it is there unless they use the stairs and see a door on the second floor guarded by a security guard. There is the usual Internet-linked computer in the lobby, but no exercise facilities or other amenities. There is practically no value in staying in downtown San Jose: It is dirty, dangerous and decaying. There are few sites to see (best is the National Museum) and they can be done in half a day. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful. Some insane interior decorator decided that all flooring surfaces in the hotel should be tiled. The result is that noise travels everywhere. As a business traveller not interested in the seedy night life that surrounds this hotel, I will stay in the outskirts next time.

    Very good and not so......

We came in one day early and they were very accomodating finding us a room without a reservation. This was a nice standard room, quiet, clean and neat. The room I had reserved for the following night was a junior suite. It had a bit of a view of the city since it was on the top floor, but it was noisy, hot tub not functional, not comfortable.

    Dishonest & Safety Concerns

Management is dishonest. Before i booked, i asked about their guest policy and was emailed a copy of the hotel's policy. According to the presidente hotel guest policy; you are allowed one guest as long as she is in proper atire. but every guest i brought to the hotel was denied entry due to 'prior problems'. my 3rd guest was actually staying at the hotel & as a test i asked her to try to get in w/ me. she was denied! even the virgin mary would not be allowed in as a guest! the hotel's dishonest policy creates a safety issue because you are sent back out into the nite when most of the crime is occurring. IF YOU ARE SINGLE; STAY ELSEWHERE; THE hotel presdente WILL NOT ALLOW GUESTS IN!!

The good, the bad and the ugly

This is my 4th stay at the Presidente and my least enjoyable. The staff was friendly and were doing their job accordingly. However, the Presidente has put a guest policy in place that is a shot in the dark as to who they will let enter the hotel. Although I like the hotel I will not stay there again and my many friends will not also. They will feel the effects of this policy when they review their bottom line in about 90 days when the guest policy really gets out.
