Do not stay at The Hotel Presidente

The Hotel Presidente has recently instituted a guest policy. I have no problem with them instituting a guest policy, but I do have a problem when this guest policy is not made available me. I did not find out until I tried to sign in a guest. I will not stay in the Hotel Presidente and I will tell all of my friends not to stay there.

Very Disapointed

After booking my room with my girlfriend from Costa Rica the Hotel would not let her check in because she arrived 3 hours after me and was not dressed appropiate, accouding to them. We were told this after I had already unpacked and after her 4 hour bus ride and my 6 hour flight. I was forced repack everything and move to a different hotel. I was also informed that the Presedente was going to charge me for a whole day even though I was only there for 3 hours. The hotel was also under construction which I was not told about either. Horrible experience.

Helpful staff, terrible location

Other than the room and the restaurant, I did not see any other amenities at this hotel. There is an unpleasant casino connected to the hotel, but guests hardly know it is there unless they use the stairs and see a door on the second floor guarded by a security guard. There is the usual Internet-linked computer in the lobby, but no exercise facilities or other amenities. There is practically no value in staying in downtown San Jose: It is dirty, dangerous and decaying. There are few sites to see (best is the National Museum) and they can be done in half a day. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful. Some insane interior decorator decided that all flooring surfaces in the hotel should be tiled. The result is that noise travels everywhere. As a business traveller not interested in the seedy night life that surrounds this hotel, I will stay in the outskirts next time.

There are very, very few (if any) decent restaurants in downtown San Jose.

hotel presidente

Staff and service were excellent until checkout. The young lady that checked me out definitely had a bad attitude and tried to overcharge me for an incidental of all things. The location is in the heart of the city and you can enjoy dining with a clear view of the street and all the hustle of people going by. Security was particulary excellent.

Not as good as the Picture

The security of the hotel was nice especially given the area, but there was no pool as pictured and the room was so so. Still was a nice place for the area. The front desk was very helpful with cabs and food and such.
