san jose stop

Hotel lobby interior is quaint & attractive, but rooms are basic at best. Limited hot water. Uncomfortable noisy bed. Young man at front desk was very irritating. Insisted he did not have a reservation for us, and no rooms were available, despite us having paid by credit card on line the prior evening. When his mgr found the reservation, the young man explained it often takes up to 48 hours for them to receive their online reservations. Neighborhood not good. Full of crack addicts, homeless, casinos & strip clubs. Breakfast was just rice & black beans.

Only for an overnight transit spot in San Jose

This was a good hotel as an overnight transit stop. The staff were really friendly esp Damian who could assist us in English. The breakfast was terrible they should just give toast and jam. Was great to have wifi in our room to assist in our next destination plans. Overall the hotel was perfect for what we needed. Not a very nice area though. But not sure if there is a nice area in San Jose that's affordable.

Quick April getaway

I stayed at The Inca Real during the second week in April. Even though a free continental breakfast was one of the amenities, my first breakfast was simply a cup of coffee and two pieces of dry toast. There really was nothing else. I was told for a two dollar charge, I could get eggs; but I had to arrange that the night before. The rooms are directly off the main lobby and I could hear "loud" conversations as I tried to relax. I have been to San Jose many times and will probably not stay at this place in the future. My package deal was 664 and I guess the airfare was 360 and the room was 304. The room was reasonable but with no acoustics, a very simple breakfast and no soap or shampoo, there are better places for probably the same money. For breakfast, I walked 2 blocks to The Dunn Inn which had a very nice restaurant and it was downright cheap. The location is 4 blocks from the Promanade which has many stores. This is walkable, but I suggest a short cab to and from would be best.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

Walking at night is not reccommended; however the day seemed to be quite safe and friendly. I walked to a small store to buy soap and soft drinks for this hotel did not offer any toiletries.

Difficult and dishonest staff!

We had to get in in the wee hour of 230am. The hotel the next day tried to make me pay even though I had my confirmation letter and it showed I had paid already. When after they made me pay saying they could not fine the resevation and I did and I demanded my confimation letter back they took over 2 hours to give it to me and finally said oh we finally found your reservation. They acted like they had no clue and were trying to extort more money.. I would not stay there again and if I did i would not want to...

Time-saving tip: Long walk from hotel

This hotel is in the city and the city can be very hard to navigate. Easy to get lost in. Not to far from things to do there but I would not stay ever in San Jose if I had any choice to get out of the big city. Costa Rica is not about the dirty over crowded big city. Try to arrive early and get out of town as soon as possible. Also the rental car people in Costa Rica are rip off artists and so just get your car ahead of time and reserve it at the Airport. They are good but none of the local stores will treat you well... Don't let them push you around!!!
