Adventure Couple
Fantastic experience!
This is a great hotel in a perfect location in downtown San Jose. Within a couple short blocks are the National Theatre, the Gold Museum, and the central market; for the adults there are bars and casinos and the famous Hotel Del Rey. The interior architecture is beautiful and unique, particularly in the patio bar (which is top notch). The complimentary breakfast buffet was extraordinary and far exceeded our rice-and-beans expectations. We had expedition companies pick us up at the hotel to go to Arenal, the Pacuare River, and Turu Ba Ri park. the drives were 2-3 hours but very scenic. The room was a bit small but we didn't come to Costa Rica for the room. I don't think we could have done better than this hotel for location, the friendly staff, the location, the restaurant and bar, or the location!

Thursday and Friday nights the National Symphony Orchestra plays a block and a half away in the National Theatre. We saw the line at the door but assumed the show was a play or a speech (and our Spanish is terrible), so we missed the music and the interior of this classic building. You should go!

Great place, great price
Hotel staff was wonderful, very helpful. When we heard comments about musty rooms, we were worried that it might be a problem when we arrived at the hotel. Not even close! We never noticed any problems with odors in room. The breakfasts were delicious and fresh, plenty of food; lovely restaurant.

quick trip
The overall experience at the hotle was good. The location could not be beat. the one problem i had in my room(212) was the toliet did not flush completely, so you would have to flush three or four times to get all the waste out of the bowl. The carpet in the room has very visable stains on it. Other than that, the room was ok, but i was told i had been upgraded, yet my traveling companions rooms were much nicer. I looks like the are going through and updating all the rooms, statring on the third floor( which is the floor that my partners were on) and working their way down. maybe some on the issues will take care of themselves.

Don't just eat at the trouist traps. we found out where the locals eat at that was close to our hotel, and were able to get good meals at half the price of the hotel and other like places and the food quality was as good or better.

Serves it's purpose...
The hotel is definitely not a luxury hotel, however the room was overall clean. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel's restaurant, El Patio, offered free breakfast buffet and the food was delicious. Dinner was afordable and tasty. The location is very central to San Jose. The concierge table (not really service) had a lot of useful information about local attractions.

Quite disappointing
Our room was very small and dark - there were no windows to the outside, only to a little dark space. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. The food was very good

Thrifty Traveler . . .
Low Cost, Okay location . . .
The hotel itself was okay, it clearly hadn't been updated since the first James Bond movie, but it works if you just need a place to rest your head at night. The staff were really friendly, helpful and spoke fluent english . . . and they were honest about unsafe areas of San Jose. Breakfast was included and the food at the hotel resturant was superb! I would stay there again, but only if I was just there for a week no more.

Downtown hotel
Located a short walk from most of the main sights in downtown San Jose. Pleasant experience, and no problems. We liked the internet availability (free for guests). Breakfast was very good.

Very nice people
I did not like when they giva us a smoke guess room but in the second day I ask for a no smoke room and they move us to a no smoke room. The Hotel is clean. The peaple were nice. They help us when we asked for somenthing. The room was in good condiction, and there was adeguate space for hanging clothers. The location was very good ...in the center of the city.
