Robbed in Paradisus
The resort was a great disappiontmnet. My husband and I went there to celebrate our 36 wedding anniversary. Upon arrival our room was not ready. When given our room it was registered to someone else. The next day was the worst of all. The resort recommended to schedule excursions with Hightide which are supposed to be all included in our package. Needless to say that is not the case. They will not allow you to schedule the free actvities ahead of time, you must schedule them that morining. Therefore if leaving for an all day paid excursion you can not schedule the sunset cruise. After trying to schedule our week, we decided to go to the pool. After a quick swim we went to out room to change for a brief snack at the Mexican patio. We were out of the room for no more than 30 minutes. Upon entering the room the closet and the safe was wide open. We had been ROBBED! My husbands watch(an anniversary gift), cell phone and $700 was taken. You are told to keep all valuables in the safe. Who knew that these people have a master code to the safe. My husband immediately called the front desk three times before we got a response. It took another 30 minutes and another 20 for the security gaurds. To our disbelief they offered no help,no apology and no offer to recover our belongings. On the 4th day we heard about a newlywed couple from New York whose safe was robbed the night before. I did not feel safe the entire week. My husband checked with 3 different managers and was only stared at with a blank look. This is not the professional way to run a business. Arriving at the airport in Libera a couple from Tampa,Fl.told us when they were checking out they over heard 2 European couples complaining to the manager that thier safe had been robbed. This is a vacation that I will never forget and not in a good way. How can anyone recommend this resort.

Reservations Needed
We were very disappointed in the restaurants. The food was sub par and you had to stand in line every morning for dinner reservations. The only good restaurant was the Italian restaurant. We stood in line each morning for about 45 minutes and many of the days the restaurant was already booked. They saved half of the reservations for the guests who had Royal Service. It looks like they are expanding the property, but I hope that they expand their restaurants and change the way they do reservations. The drinks were always good, the room was clean and the grounds were beautiful. We loved our trip, but we were disappointed in the food.

Shopping tip:
Short drive from hotel
Skip the trip into nearby Tamarindo for shopping. All the shops are the same. If you are a surfer then you will like Tamarindo as it is known as a Surf City. If you are looking for good shopping, you can buy the same things in the booths that are set up on the beach.

BAD customer service and not friendly
The wedding planner did not plan for family and guest to be close to each other. Front Desk was not friendly or helpful. The wedding planner to the bride that wedding on the beach is $$ cost on the wedding day, change the dinner memu with out notice, and serve the bride and groom food last on their wedding day. The set-up for the wedding was cheap looking for the $$ the hotel charge. The excursion the to expensive and their is nothing near by in a walking distance. Wedding and vacation is Mexico the much better the this place 100%. Spider problem in the rooms.

Bad experience
food is awful, over half the restaurants are closed, every room service order has been wrong then they don't understand you when you try to send it back and complain. The only good service here we have had are the bartenders and those poor guys don't even get tips most of the time!

Couldn't Have Been More Disappointed with Food/Service
Rooms in the "Royal Beach Club" are older, and similarly equipped to Standard Room. Food is awful, everywhere. Food poisoning from the buffet, and met other couples with same issue on the same evening in the SAME restaurant. Management does NOT care. All they try to do is up-sell. Beach is nearly unswimmable due to riptide. Enjoy getting mobbed by vendors coming to/from the the beach entrance. Avoid like the plague. The Westin should be ashamed to put their name on this place.

Fair but not as nice as advertised...
We upgraded the the royal service which was well worth it at the time. At first the service was amazing but each day the service became worse. We reserved a honeymoon package months before we came, when we got to the hotel I asked the front desk about it and they seemed very annoyed. We were there for about a week and never got the package. We had one bottle of champagne delivered but nothing else we were promised. I was really disappointed about that. I also was disappointed with the grounds. Don't get me wrong, it was beautiful but certainly not 5 star quality. I've stayed at much nicer places with less of a rating. There is not much of a beach to relax on, no lounge furniture. It is very short and rocky. The place to relax is at the pool. Most of the staff was great and spoke great English but some didn't like to be bothered. The food was amazing!!!!! Be prepared to come home fat!!!! I can't say enough about how good that was!!! Overall, I did have a good time but I wouldn't come back.

If you want to upgrade to royal service wait until you get to the resort it is much cheaper and definitely worth it.

The Scotts
Left Early, No Refund
This is a sprawling, complex resort set in a great location. All of the promised amenities are rarely offered and then subject to availability (Sushi Class only offered one hour on Thursdays). The beach is incredible, but you need to dodge the mini-trucks on EVERY PATH! You will see iguanas, butterflies, and coati frequently. The staff is everywhere, maintaining the grounds, and the only friendly people. Most of the guests walk around with the "Paradisus stare" which can best be translated as "I paid how much for this?" The rooms are big, sterile, tiled mausoleums, lacking coziness. Lastly, it was the first nights of our Honeymoon, and all the "Romance Advisors" could offer was champagne and strawberries (for an extra charge). This is much better for corporate retreats than romantic getaways which is why we left a night early with no [...] refund.

Try to make your reservations for dinner ASAP! We planned on dining at the Palapa, but it was booked by Proctor and Gamble for a Private (no other guests) Dinner without any notice. Fortunately, we were saved by a very kind hostess at another restaurant.

Could have been better
Very nice resort in terms of rooms and amenities. Services were in place and always offered, but you won't get too far with the staff if you need anything more complicated than a fresh towel or drink. Food is ok. Royal service gives you access to additional services and amenities, but it's not worth paying full price.

40th wedding anniversary
Casino which was advertised was closed. Service (despite upgrading to royal service) was poor. Waited up to 10-15 minutes for drinks at the swim up bar until we complained. Food was good. Only two beer choices...imperial or light.

Relaxing getaway
The overall facility was nice, but a little disappointing because of the rave reviews we got from other people who were there. The lobby was very plain. We have been to other resorts where the lobby really set the mood for the exotic locale, and where we were given drinks during check in. The junior suite was excellent. The food was good to very good, but the restaurant style and decor did not reflect the type of food served, i.e. Italian, Mexican. The quality of the service was spotty, from poor to excellent. This may be because the resort is being sold to Best Western very shortly. There were not enough umbrellas for the beach, and they are needed to keep from burning. Because of this there were times we had to stay at the pool, instead of being on the beach where we really wanted to be. As you walk from the resort to the beach you have to pass through an area with local vendors, and I found that to be a negative, although the vendors and tour representatives are not pushy. In that same area the vendors are allowed to park their vehicles, and in the late afternoon you can hear them revving the engines, which takes away from the relaxing environment of the beach. We mainly stayed at the resort, except for one day when we walked to the town of Brasilito, which is very small, and only has a few vendors. The evening shows were very entertaining. All in all, it was a good, relaxing vacation, but I don't know if I would return.

The massage on the beach was better than the much more expensive one in the spa, although the spa environment is much nicer and you can use the jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room. The pedicure was just okay.
