Wanted to love it, but didn't...

Would not recommend Wed, Apr 9, 2014
There is nothing wrong with this hotel, per se, but it just wasn't the experience we were looking for..The very spacious suites (2500 sf) looked rather cold and corporate in the photos, and when I got there, it was just as I expected. It wasn't quite American luxury, and it wasn't an authentic Costa Rican experience...it was an awkward blending that didn't really work. The reason you stay in Manuel Antonio is for the wildlife, and because this is a high rise building, you don't get the cute experience of moneys on your balcony, iguanas on your doorstep...and it was expensive! I overpaid, about $450/night...which would be fine if you had three couples, but for just our family of four, it was too big. Also, we found that the beach was not really a swimming beach and not really accessible. Pool was nice & staff was helpful...just wasn't my cup of tea.

Great Place to stay!!

Since we have 2 teenagers, we need a space. So I found Los Altos Beach Resort/Condo Hotel. It was just perfect for us. When the elevator door opened, we could not believe our eyes, because we had a penthouse. We didn't have to look for a room, when the elevator arrived it was our room. A huge living room and dining room and 3 spacious bedrooms!!! The view was amazing too.We could not expect more. My husband and kids were very happy. The hotel stuffs were very nice. The food in the restaurant was good but expensive.

Shady Management

On June 17th we checked in with Caesar at the front desk. No problems. Jonathon took us to our Condo to get settled in... we go to dinner & say bye. On the way back from dinner Caesar stops us to let us know there will be an additional $150 per night since we were using more than 1 Bedroom. I told him this was not discussed during making the reservation, & ask to speak to Efrain. He was not back in until morning, which I had to worry about all night as we were on a tight budget. Before breakfast the next morning I asked to speak to Efrain, which he tells me that yes there will be an additional charge of $150 per night. I told him it was not discussed over the phone, which then he tells me our conversation was RECORDED & he will have his boss pull the recording to double check. We went on to breakfast, where we also over heard the group of girls next to us saying they are were also charging them extra $75 per night. After breakfast I went back to talk to Efrain, now he said the “recording” had been erased and he would have to speak to his boss. I told him we needed to know ASAP what was going on. We went upstairs changed clothes, went to the bank & to another rental office to find out what our options were… even though we LOVED our accommodations at LOS ALTOS we felt something was not right. When we came back about 10am, I asked for Efrain again. Now ALL the managers were in a “meeting” I told Jonathon at the front desk, I needed an answer about what we were being charged as we are on a budget. He was reluctant to get anyone but after waiting about 15 minutes, he went interrupted the “meeting”. This is when Oren Marciano came out, not Efrain to discuss the situation. He said that he was to believe Efrain, that I was told it’s an additional charge for using more than 1 bedroom in the 3 bedroom condo. I told him where on my paperwork does it say ANYTHING about extra charges. We had 3 people coming at the time of the reservation & 1 person joined us after the reservation but NOTHING was ever said about extra charges for a 3 bedroom condo, which was only $200 per night … now it’s $350 per night. ? He said the best he could do was an extra $100 per night. That’s when we walked straight upstairs, packed our bags & left. At this time we went to Vacation Villas ( Alex Rivera ) and rented a condo for the next 2 nights. After meeting with Oren Maciano, we did not feel comfortable leaving our things in the rooms if we left the premises. This was not how I wanted to end my vacation, but there was nothing I could do & we wanted to make sure we felt safe & not to be hustled.

Great Costa Rican experience

Would recommend Mon, Jun 18, 2012
Los Altos was in a great location within walking distance of many restaurants. The rooms were very spacious...the elevator opened directly into your room. The staff was very friendly, remembering your name. The pool was beautiful; however, the beach was a little rocky so I didn't spend any time there. Beautiful...I would recommend to others.

Attractions

The jet ski excursion was a beautiful way to see the entire coastline...amazing.

Best place to stay

Would recommend Mon, Apr 16, 2012
This was our first visit to Manuel Antonio (2nd time in Costa Rica). This condo/hotel is the nicest place in the area, hands down. The hotel is at a high elevation, located on the main road-- however, from the entrance on the main road, the property slopes downward toward the ocean paralleling the road toward the Parador. There are several good places to eat within walking distance. We rented a car, however, taking the bus from this hotel is very convenient (we did it one day). It stops near the entrance of Los Altos and takes you to Espadilla Beach (the public beach), the National Park or even all the way to Quepos for 150 colones (about 40 cents). There is a small grocery store not far away. The accommodations are fantastic. If you want a lot of space, you'll have it: three beautifully appointed bedrooms and bathrooms. The living area and kitchen were well-appointed. The kitchen could have used more utensils, but for having snacks or light meals it is adequate. The restaurant "Karolas" on site is open-air and has a lovely hilltop view of the ocean over the pool area. The breakfast included in our room rate was great (eggs, rice/beans, pancakes, fruit, juice, coffee). We had dinner one evening and the food was good and the service very good. The pool is clean and a good size with plenty of chairs and umbrellas. There are two hot-tub-like pools, as well as a shallow pool suitable for little children. There is a bar at the pool and you can also order food from the restaurant. For the best view, request a room in the side of the building away from the road and purchase the highest floor you can afford. We were satisfied with the location of our room third floor in the building closer to the road (we could see the ocean over the parking area), however a prettier view would have been from a higher floor or from the other side of the building. We loved this hotel and would definitely stay here again.

Money saver

Sancho's restaurant across from the entrance has great fish tacos (and other food)
