It had all the basics. It was like a drive up motel from the mid west. Close to the supermarket, resturants, and a couple miles to downtown.

Money saver

instead of having your hotel call or grabbing a cab from downtown start walking and flag a taxi when you dont want to walk any more since there is only one main road your bound to see a cab

I only wanted a place to sleep for our 2-day trip to The Arenal Volcano area so I went with a low price. That is relative I guess, as nothing is inexpensive when it comes to tourist attractions in Costa Rica. When I paid $120 ($60 each) for a dip in Tabacon Hot Springs Resort, I was glad I cheaped out on accomodations. The motel room was, let's say "rustic". It had clean sheets and pillows, but the bed covers were likely the same ones since inception. The door was solid wood, but thin with gaping cracks large enough to peer through and a lock that an 8 year old child could lean on and bust in. The sink drains outside the wall on to the ground (I presume), and the windows won't close, let alone lock. The A/C worked, but with open windows, kind of a waste of energy. I'm an electrician, and I was afraid to touch the bedside light switch/receptacle combo, and the receptacle was broken and pushed in making it impossible to plug in my phone charger. Having said all that, we are absolutely LOVING Costa Rica, and feel very safe here or we wouldn't have stayed at this place after seeing the room. I did push the giant chair against the door just in case the wind picked up and pushed it open during the night.

Attractions

Although unbelievably expensive, Tabacon Hot Springs is somthing you should do (once). Spend an entire day there to get your money's worth. Bring your own beer! Take a hike in the Arenal Volacan National Park.
