Just the essentials great surf no croud!

Amazing people great surf away from the crowds of Jaco! No it's not your average america in a box hotel. Showers might get chilly there's no AC in half the rooms but you don't need it. It's quaint, quite, cheep beer, just a nice place to relax and surf. Theres only about four really small hotels here a grocery store and a tiny community of probably 5 houses but if you really want to go out and party Jaco is 1.5 miles away. I'll definitely be going back!

our opinion

Well for the most part we went the beach. The beach near the hotel was really for surfers. Someone recommended a beach nearby that was more calm so that was where we spent our week. I suggest having at least a 25 inch tv with basic cable, incase it rains and we have to stay inside instead we hung out in front of our door on the porch talking and having a few drinks. Don't get me wrong we enjoyed ourselves but it would of been nice to watch a movie. Another suggestion is a microwave. Not everyone can eat Tipical food.

stay tips

I was there in March 2009. The location was excellent. Right next to the beach. Middle of all the attractions that i wanted to drive to. Okay here we go about the room. First night arrived late, and the key to the room was in the room key. The room was hot and humid. the beds were old, there is no glass window, and privacy was a concern, both sound and view. Outside light kept me awake. The bathroom had mold, the shower head heating element power went out once. There were two dogs always by the door. there are no towels, or soap or shampoo in the room. There was a $20 room key deposit (cash). After all that, I wish i was there now! You get used to the climate, the beds are comfortable once you put your own sheets down, the windows are easily covered by the other beds sheets. The shower heater, well, please ask the manager on how to use it. it does have three settings on the shower head itself. if you are short, you may not see it. The dogs are friendly, the people are friendly. Beautifull women go to that place to surf, and watch the surfers. Breakfast was awesome. Right next door is a kitchen restaurant by the beach. One morning i was having breakfast and two macaws kept flying by! Beautifull people at breakfast, and yes the two dogs too. The room is ideal for surfers that only care to be there to surf. If you can get used to it, its a memorable place. Would i stay there again, no. I would stay at the other coast of costa rica to explore that side. Staying there was an experience. in the begining it was a nightmare, but in the end, i wish i was there now.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

buy car insurance at the same time you rent a car through orbitz. Skip on the butterfly garden at monteverde. Check your credit card for international fees they may impose for using your card at costa rica. Arrange meeting with manager before checking out to ensure you get your $20 room key deposit back.

Cabinas Las Arenas, Playa Hermosa, C.R.

Glad you wrote; been trying to contact your since we returned from Costa Rica. Our experience with hotel, although the staff was understanding, was VERY unsatisfactory. I had sought on the web, thought I had found, then booked (thru Orbitz) a nice quiet place on the beach where my wife and I could enjoy several days. The ad on Las Arenas seemed right. But when we arrived, the first thing the "Asst Manager" said was "Man, this place isn't for you!" (My wife and I are in early 60s.) It was just another seedy surfer hangout; dark, noisy rooms filled with bunks, no pool (not even deck chairs for the beach). I have taken several pictures which I will share if given a chance. The clerk said he understood (though NO REFUND) and recommended a number of better-suited places, which we took advantage of (interesting that the price was about the same.) We're not happy with your research...and expect a refund or at least a voucher toward a future Orbitz purchase. Come on; you can do better! Paul Johnson
