3 star hotel

Not bad, not good. I would recommend the Palace hotel over this one. First room we were given had broken door wall that left the room exposed to the outside and opportunity for bugs to get in and a filthy toliet. Second room, same filthy toliet. Half way through the trip the air conditioning broke and was never fixed. I walked back to the room one day when the maid was cleaning and two security gaurds were in my room. They claimed not to speak english and the front desk never got back to me with why they were in my room and on the phone. This is a 3 star hotel at best. I would not recommend.

Knowing Costa Rica

Great palace to stay. Location is far away. My main concern is the WFi is not free at the room. Need to go to the lobby to get free connection.

Watch for your belongings

Staff were friendly but their English is not the best, put your valuable belongings inside a safe! staff are stealing or it just disappears from the room. otherwise the food is great, the location is great, and the weather is perfect.

Fantastic trip for all ages!

We were a group of ten who went to Costa Rica over Christmas . It was young to old and every person had a fantastic time and can't wait to return to the RIU next year. You can't expect a five star hotel in Central America to equal a five star in Paris France, but it was absolutely a dream vacation. The hotel and gardens were beautiful, the food was good and the staff friendly. The beaches, pool, bars, extra-curricular activities were memories made !

Sightseeing tip: Not Applicable

A long drive, but well worth experiencing what the country has to offer. Volcanoes, waterfalls, mud baths , horseback riding, zip lining and we booked it with Alex on the Beach (has a website) . We did not have any complaints, the trips were amazing .

Cruise Ship on Land

Great place to share a spot on the beach with 1400 fellow travelers. There were big crowds of people at this facility, but they were all having a good, festive time, save a few kids throwing tantrums while being dragged away from the pool by their parents at 8:00 PM when it closed for the evening. If people watching is your thing, this is the place to be. Even though there were clearly throngs of guests, the place was big enough and had the facilities and staffing to handle them all. All the staff I encountered were friendly, accomodating and busting their b*tts to keep up with everything. Their English skills were great, and everything we brought to their attention was handled promptly. Food was an issue, though there was a wide variety nicely presented, and plenty of it, by the time 400 diners had their way with the buffet, including packs of unsupervised kids fondling the food items, things got a bit dicey at times. The specialty restaurants were attractive, with excellent service, but "Denny's " class of food. In short, there is so much of it about, if you can't find something to sustain yourself with, you are waayy to picky. Rooms were clean and nicely appointed well designed. The Cleaning staff were always short on bath towels and washcloths. Every day it was a task to treck down to the front desk to ask for replacements for the towels taken by the cleaning staff and not replaced. Cleaning staff was quite apologetic about the shortages. One room note, don't leave food items or open soft drinks out on any counter, table top or in the room or out on the balcony. There are small ants that will swarm your food items. This is more recognition of the tenacity of the little critters as opposed to any criticism about how clean the rooms were. The only complaint I have about our stay was with the Paid Internet Service. If you want wireless internet in your room, you have to pay $15.00/day. Connections were intermittent, Even though your link with the wireless access point would stay up, the system would loose DNS, have frequent time out issues, and would loose Internet connectivity. By frequent, try every three minutes. Since the service is provided by a third party, the hotel was no help. The service provider did not answer support emails (Most likely they didn't reach them) In short, don't waste your money on the paid service. There is free Internet in the lobby, and you don't get as upset when a free service drops your connection. I would recommend this hotel for my friends and family who want a well priced, family fun get away with plenty of options in a wonderful place. But, I would not recommend this place to my friends who want quiet seclusion for their vacation.

Pura Vida at RIU

The location is peacefully perfect! Waking up to the sounds of paradise very memorable. Unfortunately a few late nites got really loud by families have too much fun. The hotel overbooked so their staff was working extra hard to keep the facilities cleaned and orderly. Overall I would stay here again but not on a Saturday and Sunday when the locals bring out their families.

paying for community country club

RIU gives back to the community by allowing local residents to use the facilities. this should not be done at the expense of other vacation guests. it is complete chaos. children allowed in bar areas no dress codes enforced in dining areas. most are rude and disrespectful with a sense of entitlement. you can't hide in your room because there is no room service. not even a coffee maker. alcohol and drink refrigerator to be stocked every other day. not!!! only gets done if u catch him in hallway. it is ashamed that RIU has lowered their standards. the property itself is gorgeous. too bad the service is only three star

Great place for vacation

Nice beach, great staff. You can do what you like during vacation: some people just take a rest, some spend time around bar and pools, some - on the beach. We used all . One problem: it'll be great to have working Wi- Fi without limitation and better connection.

My Stay at RIU Guanacaste, Dec. 10-14, 2013

Everything was just perfect and we enjoyed our time there very much. The staff from the front desk to the restaurants were extremely helpful and did everything to make sure that our experience at the hotel was outstanding. Highly recommended place. The only thing not included in the All Inclusive was the Internet, but I was told that they are in the process of including the Internet soon.
