Honeymoon at the Riu Guanacaste

Would recommend Wed, Apr 9, 2014
This was our honeymoon at the Riu and our first time in Costa Rica and staying at a Riu resort. We had an amazing time! We were completely impressed by the cleanliness of the hotel! The workers were cleaning non stop and the resort looked fabulous because of it! The food was great, although we weren't big fans of the food in the sports bar. The resort is very family friendly. Pool was wonderful and the wait staff at the bars did a fantastic job! The show on the street on Sat was a lot of fun and the dancers were amazing! The Michael Jackson show was also great! We did wish there was more night life at the resort. We did a lot while we were there! We took the hotel shuttle to Tamirindo and took surf lessons! I highly recommend doing that, it was one of our favorite parts of the trip! The beach is gorgeous in Tamirindo and there is a lot of shops and places to eat! We also took a shuttle to Coco beach, which is something I would skip. We did an all day excursion with the guys on the beach in bright orange shirts.... the trip was a lot of fun but I didn't feel that the tour guide did a very good job and the other guy he picked up to come with didn't speak English. Our tour guide basically stayed in the shuttle the whole time. On the excursion we zip lined, horse back riding, ate lunch, hiked to 2 waterfalls, and did the mud baths. Zip lining was AWESOME! The tour said volcano but we never saw one.... I wouldn't recommend this tour company and I would say to book through the people at the resort because they have the same prices and speak better English. We also rented ATVS at the guide in the resort next to the shuttle kiosk. ATVing was so much fun!! We did tell the hotel it was our honeymoon in hopes they would do something a little special but didn't. We had a wonderful time at the RIU and recommend it!

Attractions

Do the zip lining at Congo Trail! Such a fun experience and you get to see monkeys in the trees!

Perfect Vacation

Would recommend Tue, Mar 25, 2014
The resort was in the perfect location!! Absolutely beautiful! The staff was amazing! Always ready to entertain and help with whatever you need. The snorkeling tour the hotel offered was also amazing. Clear water and tons of fish! All in all I would recommend this resort to EVERYONE!!! The price can't be beat, especially since it includes everything. Great vacation, can't wait to go back!

Money saver

You don't need to worry about changing your money to the Costa Rican Colon. Most everywhere in Costa Rica accepts USD, so that will save some not having to do currency exchange rates.

AWSOME EXPERIENCE

Would recommend Tue, Mar 25, 2014
Me and my fiancé went in august of 2013 for 6 nights and 7 days. we went with two other family members and we had an awesome time. The guys by the beach selling tours are much cheaper than the hotel but the hotel is more secure. Had a good time, the food was good, the room was perfect and the beds where huge. The best part of the hotel is waking up to the monkeys playing in the forest next to the hotel.

Entertainment hint

The staff are very friendly and would do anything to make you happy and give you what you want.

Can't Wait To Go Back!

Would recommend Sun, Mar 16, 2014
From the front desk to the gardeners everyone my boyfriend and myself came into contact with was amazingly nice and helpful. The food was actually better than typical all-inclusive mediocre foods. I am from New York, so I can be very much picky with everything. But there wasn't anything to nit pick about. The resort is HUGE and it can take you a while to get back to your room, but you will get use to it. We were so happy we chose this resort and not the Palace, both were nice but Guanacaste had more character and shade from the sun lol. I can only say that I didn't like the sheets on the bed because they seemed itchy and the bed wasn't as soft as I would like. But it didn't cause any pain, so I'm happy. Great choice. Can't wait to go back! Oh yea, don't waste your time for the Casino!!!

Perfect winter getaway!

Would recommend Sat, Mar 8, 2014
We went there to get out of the Chicago winter and we are so glad we did! The staff is friendly, the room was very clean and we had a great time. A few questions we had prior to the trip were if we could book various trips at the hotel and if we could get a ride back to the airport. There is a service in the lobby to book your return to the airport and get a ride to other locations. There are also several companies that sit in the huge lobby that you can book trips with. They trips were about $150 per person per trip depending on what you were doing. The good at the resort is good. There is no room service but a sport bar that is open 24 hours which you can pick up food in a self serve area, such as sandwiches, nachos, popcorn and burgers. The pool can be a entertaining party for most of the day. The beach is very private with only a few people coming up to try to sell you something. There is no one who serve you drinks at the beach but there are servers ever where else. There is also a stage show every night, which is entertaining. And there is also another riu next to this location which is newer. Also they did not provide shampoo or conditioner in the bathrooms. Overall we had a great time and ended up extending an extra day.

Money saver

Bring plenty of toiletries. There is a small shopping area on the property but sunscreen is $38! Also you will not get shampoo or conditioner in the bathroom.

3 star hotel

Would not recommend Mon, Mar 3, 2014
Not bad, not good. I would recommend the Palace hotel over this one. First room we were given had broken door wall that left the room exposed to the outside and opportunity for bugs to get in and a filthy toliet. Second room, same filthy toliet. Half way through the trip the air conditioning broke and was never fixed. I walked back to the room one day when the maid was cleaning and two security gaurds were in my room. They claimed not to speak english and the front desk never got back to me with why they were in my room and on the phone. This is a 3 star hotel at best. I would not recommend.
