Did Not Live Up to Expectations...
We stayed here coming back from an amazing Costa Rican vacation and this hotel is my only complaint. They stuck us in the back of the hotel when they obviously weren't full. They put us in a room with two twin beds (we are married) and refused to move us. We were in the very back - if you get room 124 request to move ASAP. There is a tennis/basketball court back there with huge flood lights that shine in the room all night and make it impossible to sleep. I mean it looked like it was 2 in the afternoon all night. The hotel had a creepy, unsafe feel to it. We were woken up at 3am to a loud banging on the roof - NO IDEA what it was. There were also bugs and dirty walls in the room. The only good part of the stay was the Pizza Bassar (sp?) down the road. Rough night. The staff was sparse and unfriendly. There are cleaner, safer, more comfortable stays closer to the airport. Book those - not here. If only we could get our $80 and night of no sleep back.

Short drive from hotel
There is a great pizza place up the road. Takes awhile to get the food - but worth the wait!

Beautiful
We found the hotel quite nice and a great value. It's a great central location from which to launch a Costa Rica vacation. We got to experience quite the live drum corp experience at the wedding reception taking place at the hotel. I was impressed/surprised that all settled down nicely by 10:00.

Beautiful hotel, wonderful, very helpful staff
The hotel is an older one with lots of character and very different from American chain hotels. The food is Italian and ok but I would recommend eating at local restaurants also. The staff was friendly and made us feel very welcome. The rooms were extremely clean. The grounds and pool are beautiful. The hotel is centrally located in the country and driving anywhere (unless you are at a beach resort) took considerable time. But because of the location we were able to travel throughout the country without any difficulty. I would recommend renting a car because many sights are not accessible by bus.

We loved the LaPaz Waterfall Gardens and the Rainfall Forest Canopy tours (both 1 1/2 hours from the hotel). Zoo Ave is across the street from the hotel and was also enjoyable. If you want to go to MonteVerde I recommend taking a prearranged tour.

Good Time
We had such an expensive wedding we just wanted a little getaway that didn't break our bank "more". We loved this place. It was a good location, we traveled a lot from there, and there was plenty to do locally also. The staff was always helpful, which is very important to me. The resort is older, but they do a lot to take care of it, and while we were there they were redoing some of the rooms. We looked in one of them, and we could see how nice it was going to be when it was done.

Great Private Resort
Just stayed at Hotel Martino for nine nights, One Adult with four teenagers. Got a good rate for Hotel, three rooms, Airfare, Car and parking in LA. The location is great if you want to explore the central valley via tours or rental car and close enough to San Jose to enjoy the city life. The Hotel is very safe, wonderful staff, great free breakfast, big confortable rooms. The grounds are big and beautifully landscaped with jungle on both sides and behind. The pool is every bit as nice as it looks in the pictures. The resturant and bar are top notch and very personal. There are several local resturants in the area, I recommend the one right next door across the street from the zoo.

The local zoo, Manual Antonio National Park, La Paz, visit the local small towns and mingle with the people, for example go to San Ramon for a day(30 minutes from the hotel) and you will probably not see another tourist. Pura Vida

Decent for under $100
Decent value for under $100. Very beautiful grounds, but the rooms lacked any romantic feel. Our next door neighbor was soooo loud, but management did act quickly to remedy.

Great for airport and as a base for touring
Beautiful spot. Ten minutes from the international airport across from the Zoo in a quite location. Old school feel of luxury. Beautiful woodwork throughout the hotel. Pool was excellent. Restaurant had very good Italian food. We were able to eat off a good cold breakfast buffet at 4am on the way to the airport. We were in transit and only stayed 1 night but will consider staying longer next trip.

Hard to Find / Good Value
We arrived after 11:00 PM, and with no street light or exterior lights from the hotel, it was hard to find. After checking in we found that the kitchen was closed. Expressing that we had just completed a long day of travel and were hungry, the manager told us that drinks were available in the room and he offeered to prepare us sandwiches, which we accepted. The sandwiches arrived to the room in short order, nothing fancy but tasty and satisfied our needs. The room was simple, but clean, comfortable with a degree of old-world charm. The free breakfast buffet was limited but good. Grounds were nice, staff friendly, reasonably priced...a true value
