Idyllically set on the shores of a sheltered lagoon, Sunset Resort has 35 spacious self-catering studios and suites situated either on the Beachfront overlooking the lagoon or beside either of the two swimming pools amid lush tropical gardens. This personally managed resort has an intimate atmosphere that will make every guest feel welcome and ensure they experience the magic of Rarotonga and its people. The secluded beachfront location of the resort on the western side of the island provides guests with an unspoilt view of Rarotonga's exotic sunsets from any of the suites. Only eight minutes drive from the main town of Avarua and just minutes from the golf course and tennis courts, the resort is ideally located for convenience and privacy. The resort features an open-air restaurant surrounded by gardens. 'The Anchorage Restaurant & Bar' is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week. The Sunday Sunset BBQ is a relaxed option and gives guests the opportunity to mix and mingle while being entertained by local musicians. Hotel house bar 'Drum Beat' is open for happy hour between 5 - 7 pm daily. Each suite features a fully equipped kitchen with a microwave oven and fridge/freezer. Complimentary breakfast includes a selection of island fruits, juices, cereals, toast and coffee in a relaxed atmosphere served by friendly staff. The European styled bathrooms are fully tiled and louvered shutters are set throughout the suites with insect screens. In addition there are 21 Garden and Poolside studios, 2 Poolside 1 bedroom suites, 1 Beachfront 2 bedroom suite, 7 Beachfront studios and 4 Poolside 2 bedroom suites, two of which feature disabled facilities. The resort facilities are perfectly placed to accommodate any size wedding. Kitchen and dining facilities are available for private functions and beautiful gardens and beachfront are the perfect location to say your vows. Friendly staff will make your special day, one to remember. Spa Therapist is available to pamper you with a massage on the beach or a you may wish to enjoy one of her many therapy's in the privacy of your own room. The island bus stops at the resort's front gate throughout the day and the friendly staff provide useful information on sightseeing tours, outer island excursions and other island activities including sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and scuba diving. Sunset Resort has all the conveniences and features needed for a relaxing escape within friendly, intimate surroundings. Because the hotel does not have a 24 hour reception, Airport Transfers are mandatory between the hours of 5pm and 8am.

We stayed in both beachfront unit
We stayed in both beachfront unit (well appointed) and a poolside unit (not as well sited but still OK). The hotel is on the sheltered side of Raro, near to the airport and town and has several good restaurants within walking distance. Generally fairly good value with no complaints.
