Staff should have been on holiday as they were not at all enthusiastic or happy..The exception was the friendly lady fronting reception and our housekeeper. The smooth porcelain tiles lining the pathways are a reportable hazard when wet. Warning signs do not alleviate or minimise the problem Flat white coffee was just that and almost cold. Happy to move after the five day special and experienced bucketloads of hospitality at A'roa Beach.

Stay away!

We had a stopover for 3 days on our way back from NZ. The "resort" looks like a 2 star motel. It is old, dirty, and smelly. First room was infested with ants and I was HORRIFIED when I saw a lizard running on my bed. Changing room did not help. Ants and lizards have been in another room as well. The bed is hard, the pillows are old and lumpy. Cemetary and prisor just behind the "resort". The "beach" is dead and shallow coral reef. 3 mile ride from airport cost 18 USD per person. It's cost us 54 USD for my family of three. The Cook Islands is a poor 3d world country with poorly developed tourism. The Rarotonga in general does not have good beaches. Everything is very expensive. To leave this "paradise" will cost you 50 USD per person in some kind of tax, even so you pay 12.5% tax for your hotel and all other goods. Stay away from Cook Islands and spend your vacation money in Hawaii ot Tahiti.

Listen! Go someplace else!

Room not as you expected: I booked the beachfront room BUT it not really the beachfront you expect. The pool is between you and the beachfront. If you want REAL beachfront, go for the beachfront deluxe- which i had to upgrade for additional $30 per night- much more expensive than if you book beachfront deluxe via [...]. Hidden charges: The pricing noted hotel transfer but you actually get charged NZ$17.50. I'm not the only guest who complained about this. Such a rip off! Much cheaper if you take the bus (which is only 5-10mins away from the airport) or take the cab which will probably cost less than $10!They'll charge you as much extra whenever they can. I made arrangements with my friends to take over my remaining days and the hotel charged them again for my upgrade! NOT cool! I'll update my review if the hotel credit back the add'l charge.
